One month post-op, time to hit the gym again. I'm 51, I'm looking forward to trying to tone up again. What worked for you? Right now I am doing lighter than pre-op weights, more reps and plan on going up 10% per week, but I'm open to suggestions.

Hi guys....i'm a woman and I know I am in the guy's room. But I thought some of you might be interested in how sensualtiy can come back into your life after WLS and when you are older. It's never too late to start having fun again. My husband and I are living a dream life. I decided to write about this topic on my blog (I did a blog for the first year of my WLS but now I am 3 years out). There are so much good information out there about diets, exercise, Protein shakes, but not much out there about other important topics like how we have missed out on so much intimacy because we were heavy. I just started up again, and have really just scratched the surface on our new li…

So I got the chance at a new and healthier life coming my way. I'm pretty excited about it to be honest because its going to make me happier, healthier, and improve my over all quality of life. My consultation is on December 1st and i could not be happier to start my journey on my 24th birthday. I have read a lot of different things on the forums for the past couple of months while i've been jumping through hoops and it has helped me greatly. I have decided to go ahead and join the community now that things are on the official side. Its just nice to see that there is a place here for people to come together and talk about these things and encourage each other.

Current as of this morning is 291, 44 Jeans. Goal is 175 and jean size ???? 34? I am very active and getting this extra 100 pounds off will be life altering. Hello Guys, I just hit the 1 year anniversary of my gastric sleeve surgery. I thought I would drop in and say "hi", as well as post a few comments on my experience. I do not post often, almost not at all, but I have really enjoyed reading others comments and posts and have found them to be helpful. If anything, it has been nice to read about other similar experiences and concerns. First, I would like to say that I am very happy that I made the choice to have weight loss surgery. I don't think I could have lost weight without it. I did not have any serious health issues before having the surgery, but I was over 400lbs, so issues like diabetes were probably just aro…

Hello All, my name is Steve Hudson, I am 43 and pre op gastric sleeve. I weigh about 340, im down from 261 for my pre surgical weight loss. Anyway I write a blog called cutting the fat with a knife. I will post the address at the bottom. What I am trying to do is im going to keep this blog very blunt in cases telling people the things that I feel men need to know. The reason is that I have seen many cases where men avoid the life changing and potentially life saving surgeries because of the stigma that other men have. The macho peer pressure that I am sure many of you have gone through. 1 year post op I will compile this blog into an E-book for men who are thinking about…

Hey guys! So I was sleeved May 6th and have undergone several major surgeries and about 16 smaller procedures to correct a leak that occurred 10 days after my initial surgery. That being said I was put out of work for the last 6 months and have now returned to work as of the 7th of this month. I will gladly add that I have been, what I call, foreign object free for about a month. Currently I have lost a total of 156lbs since the date of surgery, and although physically I look good (very few stretch marks, no saggy skin, etc.) I'm having a problem with just daily stamina and exhaustion. My doctor says that along side of the fat loss, I have also lost most of my …

First day eating (off two week liquid phase). I was spoiled with the Soups which just pass straight through. I managed to eat half a scrambled egg (bless the man who suggested keeping it warm with a Mr. coffee cup warmer) and 1.5 ozs of tuna. I may be too conservative, but as soon as I thought I was full, I quit and turned the timer on for 25 minutes before Water again. I broke my Isopure into smaller servings to give me 40g of protien as well as what I can manage to eat. It's not a hunger thing, I just want to make sure I get enough calories to keep my body from going into starvation mode. The question: did you get more comfortable with eating a whole egg, or do …

OK, I am not quite sure if I am ready for this, but a friend has talked me into running a 5K with him next Sunday. We are both Jets season ticket holders, and the NY Jets are having their annual Turkey Trot next Sunday morning at the team's training facilty. He and I were at a game last month and he was asking me how my weight loss was going. I explained how I have been biking and running for my excercise. He told me about the Turkey Trot and how he was going to run it. My buddy runs the NYC marathon, so a 5K is like a walk to the corner for him. He said it would be good for me. I'm not so sure, since my usual runs are about 1-1.5 miles. 5 kilometers is 3 miles. …

How about thread for MEN getting sleeved in October. I was on the 90day program and got approved by Aetna last Friday 10/04/2013. I did my pre-op class Wednesday and I am going under the knife next Friday 10/18/2013.

I have done all my diet appointments (4 months), gotten a sleep study and a cpcp machine, blood work which turned up diabetes and now I wait for insurance (Aetna) I think my chances are pretty good since I had the band and removed it. I also have two co-morbities with a BMI of ~ 36. It's been two weeks so far. Wish me luck

Hey guy, Glad to have found this forum. I have my date scheduled for the 10th of Feb and I'm wondering how much weight people gained before going on the pre op diet. I am definetly saying "goodbye" to some foods, pizza specifically. Did anyone else have a farewell tour?

Hi guys! My name is Daniel and I've struggled for years with my weight and also my addiction to fast food. I'm 5'6 and at my heaviest 290 but go down to 275 at times. Seems that's my limit these days. I'm nervous about the whole process and the surgery itself. It doesn't help when I tell people close to me that I'm going to get the surgery (going with the sleeve) and they always say...well can't you just eat better and exercise more and horror stories about how they know someone who knows someone who has died from gastric surgery. I know in my heart that I want this because I'm tired of being the guy who can't do this or that because my back hurts after walking for a whil…

Hi Guys, Just joined and looking forward to next steps. I've been contemplating and researching Bariatric surgery for years. Finally "pulled the trigger" and thought I'd have to wait for a drawn out approval process. It was approximately five weeks from initial consult with surgeon to the pre-op appointment when I set my surgery date. Full insurance approval happened within two weeks. I'm feeling really blessed and nervous. Excited is a better description. I'm 43 yrs old and have ALWAYS been a big guy. Looking forward to turning the page to a better, healthier, longer life!

Well, I've researched the gastric sleeve for over a year now. I kept thinking that I could lose the weight on my own.. I'll start any day now... Blah blah blah... next think I knew, I was over 400 pounds... bad knees... hard time getting up from a seated position... blood pressure up, sugar was high... and I was taking 8 different meds twice daily. Nope, this isn't working. So, I went to the Bariatric Weight Loss Center at Trinity Hospital here in Birmingham Monday, October 27th. I almost ran out of there two different times. But, the doctor and nurses gave me information on top of information on top of information! So much stuff I didn't know about the operation.…

Did anyone experience a dip in desire post op? I'm about 11 weeks post op, everything works, the sleeve and um.......everything else. Before surgery lets just say I was "up" first thing in the morning most of the time, but lately I'm just not feeling it. When we're in the occasional mood, not a problem, but now when the weeknd comes the first thing I think of in the morning is, another hour of sleep. Does the libido bounce back?

Hi everyone - My surgery was August 18th, and things have gone pretty well. My surgeon cleared me for all exercise last Tuesday, and I've joined a gym. I'm thinking about starting with StrongLifts or Starting Strength, but have heard concerns about linear progression programs and required calorie intake. Has anyone else tried these programs post-surgery? What do I need to watch out for?

Ok Guys...so I'm on day 4 of a 2-week liquid diet. I'm doing ok now...but the first 2-3 days sucked like a Hoover!!! I want to know what you guys consumed while on the liquid diet and how long you were on your liquid diet. I'm a bit nervous about having something I shouldn't. I've mostly consume 3-4 shakes a day; 80-90 ounces of water; 16-24 oz zero carb green tea; sugar free jello; Popsicles. I was excited that Surgeon said I could have a grilled chicken breast with some veggies on Friday/Saturday. Feels like a Christmas gift. I feel sort of like I'm cheating...but he said it was ok. Help me out Bros.

Hi guys I'm seeing my surgeon next week and I have put a ton of thought and research into this decision. I'm really worried about failure down the road. Has this made a lasting change in your relationship to food, thanks!

I had lapband surgery 5 yrs ago this past March. I initially lost 60 lbs within the first 5-6 months. I kept it all off, but struggled to lose anymore weight until a few months ago. I'm down a total of 76 lbs, with at about another 50 lbs more to lose until I'm satisfied. Has anyone else experienced such a lag time with their weight loss progress? It's like I was in a few year 'funk'. I'm super happy that I had the surgery - no regrets at all.

Here is a video chronicling my journey so far. It is a little long, but it tells the story and my feeling heading into surgery well. I urge all of you reading to check it out and provide feedback. I want this to be the best it can be so it can be a help and motivation to others trying to change their lives. i think with surgery being imminent and me being on a liquid diet for the week leading up, I find myself thinking about some things... but really I think sometimes it's about fear of loss sometimes rather than focus on living my life LONGER and BETTER... anyway, I digress... I find myself wondering if anyone who has had surgery that smoked cigars prior to surgery, can or has smoked occasionally AFTER surgery... I think I'm just in mourning right now, as funny as that might sound... any thoughts from those with experience would be real helpful...

I'll be getting sleeved in November and it can't come too soon. Lately I've been having increasingly worse nerve pain in my feet and I think it may be a sign or a result of diabetes. I have never been diagnosed with it but when my last blood work came back a couple months ago my doc warned me about being close to being diabetic. Has anyone here had neuropathy type pains that got better after surgery and major weight loss? I'm really hoping my upcoming surgery and weight loss is going to fix it.

@@TEXASLADY52 said: I cannot tolerate the sweet and I have never liked sweet drinks. Even the Greek Yogurt has tons of sugar in it. What I found is: Genepro http://www.musclegen.net/ .... this is oderless and tasteless and does not clump. You can add it to hot or cold....or just sprinkle over your food. This stuff is great. One tablespoon equals a scoop of whey and has 30 grams of Protein. It is approved by John Hopkins and has 96% absorbtion. You can also order it from Amazon. I fix a Crystal Light and a scoop. I understand you can contact the website and they will send you a sample? ___________________________________________________________________________…

I was curious if anyone else has gone through this. I am over 3 months out now and here is what I am experiencing. I will go days even a few weeks with no weight loss. I will notice changes in my body with how clothes fit. In other words, I know I am getting smaller. I do not however see it on the scale. Eventually, maybe 2 or 3 days after I notice the change, I will see 2 or 3 pounds come off on the scale. I only mention it for a few reasons. 1. I have lost weight plenty of times and have never really noticed this routine before. 2. If you are not losing weight at the rate that you had hoped for, I think it is critical to have measurements to see that progr…

I am considering the sleeve and have already met with a few surgeons. I have come across research that shows a link in infertility in men following bypass surgery. My wife and I are very interested in having more children. I have not found any research as relates to the sleeve. Have any men had any fertility issues post sleeve?

I'm 2 weeks post op and feeling better everyday. I've started on puréed foods this week and can't get over the fact that I'm stuffed after 2 or 3 bites, the other day I made refried beans with a little bit of cheese and salsa and it was so good I tried to get another bite, big mistake, even though I didn't throw it back up I felt very uncomfortable and I learned my lesson.

Sorry about the discrimination but I know men and women lose weight at different rates. I was hoping to get input from my own gender for comparison purposes. I've noticed there are quite a few females that post in the guys room. My question is what has been the average weight loss at your 2 week follow up? I have gone down 13 pounds in 14 days. I'm fairly happy with this but I see some that are over 20lbs down in 2 weeks. I'm wondering if I'm already doing something wrong. I am adequately hydrated and getting all my fluids since day 1 postop. I am exercising in the gym 4-5 days per week concentrating on cardio. I just went off of full liquids and started pureed …

I'm about 4 months out and down 68lbs. My weight loss has slowed wayyyy down. I struggle to drop about a pound a week. If i eat less than 1,000 calories each day I won't lose any weight. I've still got about 40lbs to lose. Does this sound normal? Any tips to get out of it and maybe lose 2-3lbs per week?

Hey folks. Im from the deep south where everything is fried, smothered, full of sugar, etc. Havent been back since 2012 and going back mext week for the first time since being sleeved in February. A little emotional because I know where I came from and now know what made the old me, me. Little crazy feeling going on.

Hi, I am getting the sleeve (hopefully) and I decided to worry about whether they would be shaving my chest and gut entirely or just enough to put the electrodes on and to allow room for the incisions?

Hello all! I'm getting pretty close to getting my surgery, and was thinking, I'd like to build muscle post-op, will I be able to lift heavy again after I have the surgery? My goal is to attempt to build a good amount to compensate for the loose skin I'll deal with, and I like lifting weights anyways. Thanks!

Hey guys, so glad I found this forum! I'm 3 weeks post-sleeve and have lost a total off 38 pounds, (13 pre-op, 25 since surgery) I am 33 years old, 6'2" and started at 381. How much weight did you guys lose each week on average your first few weeks and months? I just want to get realistic when I get on the scale, but I also want to make sure I'm getting the best results possible. What do you guys eat daily? I'm a little nervous because I feel like I am already eating at the top of my doctor recommendations and worried about old habits, but I'm eating soooooooooooooooo much less than ever before that also feels silly. I'm drinking one Protein shake a day and …

I verified that Aetna received my paperwork today and the reality of what I'm about to do hit me like a ton of bricks when they confirmed they received it. Ive been working on this (insurance hoop jumping) for over 6 months now and until today I guess I kept expecting my doctor and staff to tell me surgery isn't possible for some reason. I know that's irrational, and I haven't even been approved yet, but suddenly it all seems very real. I think a part of it is because I sometimes still see myself in my mind as much smaller than I've let myself become. (Even though I've been morbidly obese for many years now.) Am I nuts or is this normal?
