Complications: HELP!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

So I was sleeved May 6th and have undergone several major surgeries and about 16 smaller procedures to correct a leak that occurred 10 days after my initial surgery.

That being said I was put out of work for the last 6 months and have now returned to work as of the 7th of this month. I will gladly add that I have been, what I call, foreign object free for about a month.

Currently I have lost a total of 156lbs since the date of surgery, and although physically I look good (very few stretch marks, no saggy skin, etc.) I'm having a problem with just daily stamina and exhaustion.

My doctor says that along side of the fat loss, I have also lost most of my muscle mass as well. My back will start to hurt after some time being up and active due to lack of core strength, and I need some advice with this. I'm now able to eat soft foods after having been on NPO (no food or drink by mouth) for almost 6 months. So I'm trying to be mindful as to what I'm eating and reminding myself to eat as well. But it doesn't seem to be helping too much.

Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks guys!!

Are you exercising? Even if you just take a walk regularly it will help retrain those muscles and strengthen your core. Are you taking Vitamins? I've noticed not every doctor follows the same Vitamin & supplement protocol. At the very least take your Multi-Vitamin 2 x's a day.

You've been through a lot! I suggest eating steamed fish with a light sauce, just a little at first, then veggies and, if you still have room, carbs. I agree with @@BLERDgirl on the importance of Vitamins and minerals. I take 2 Bariatric Advantage Calcium citrate caramel chewables, one in the morning, one in the evening. I take 1 Bariatric Advantage Ultra Multi Vitamin with Iron (clear capsule that is easily swallowed in the middle of the day. The timing is important since the Calcium and Iron negate each other. I also take a Vitamin B-12 under the tongue every other day.

Best wishes for continued success!

Wow, you have come through a lot of complications. I would recommend finding a personal trainer to work with for a few weeks to get your strength back. A trained trainer will know how to rehab your muscles so that you can get stronger without hurting yourself. I wonder if your surgeon could order physical therapy to rebuild some core muscle strength? I'm hoping that things continue to look up for you.

I agree with some others. Exercise is key. A multi Vitamin with lots of B Vitamins helps. Plenty of Water too. Build that muscle mass back. Exercise has become part of my routine. I break from it on weekends. If I go extra days without my exercise routine my energy levels starts to drop. Even if I don't feel like exercising I still do and always feel better afterwards. As always check with your surgeon for any restrictions.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
