I was just banded a week and a half ago and I'm still on full liquids but I'm thinking ahead to when I start solids, and I'm wondering how do you get in the recommended 60-70 grams of protein a day with the small bandster servings? What kind of meals do you eat?

I'm on Atkin's pre-op, which I hate. I'm a vegetarian and I'm finding it 1) really difficult to find good low carb/high protein food options, and ineffective because I'm at a higher carb level, ketosis never sets in so I never get that really full feeling one gets with Atkins. I talked to the nutritionist today and she said that I was small enough (BMI 40) that I didn't really need a pre-op diet, but I think I'd rather have a healthy liver. So I'm thinking about going on a liquid diet for the next 7 days. I don't do well with diets (obviously) because of my monster appetite. Liquid diet is almost like a form of abstinence. Nutrition without eating. Have any of you ac…

I had a fill today and I'm now having some ache type pains when I breathe. Never has this happen to me before and I have been banded sice May 21 2008. I have a 14cc band with about 7.75 cc in it now. My question is mostly has anyone else had this happen? Should I be worried or just give it a day or so? I notice the pain more when I have had a bit of something to drink , coffee as eample. Thanks ahead for any advice... Jessica

This isn't necessarily Lap Band related, but just wanted to let you all know that I lost my bakery business in a terrible fire yesterday. Everything is gone, but everyone is OK, no one was hurt. There were 3 other businesses in the building that lost everything as well. It's a tough time, handling this, trying to figure out where to go from here. My mind is elsewhere, not on the band, for obvious reasons. Hoping to get through this all quickly so I can move on. If anyone wishes to see photos, I've shared some on my business facebook page. www.facebook.com/cakeplacid Has anyone been through something tragic like this, and if so, how was your band in all of it? I s…

Im am concerned and now thinking of not having the surgery. It sounds like I still have to count calories, protein, and eliminate certain foods. If I have to do this am I not just going on a diet? What does the band do for me? Couldnt I accomplish the same results without the band? Need help.

I just thought i'd share my indulgence. I was instructed to take Viactiv calcium chews. I bought the store brand, but these are just like eating a little piece of chocolate fudge. Each calcium chew is individually wrapped so it is like I am getting a little treat. I'm a little surprised because they have 35 calories in each one, but hey--I'm following my doctor's orders completely! I purchased the store brand from Walgreens. I also have to take a chewable multi-vitamin. They aren't as tasty.

So I just came back from my 1st fill. I got 4cc's and I have read that a 4cc fill is pretty aggressive but I'm okay with that. I asked my doctor about the liquid diet following the fill n he said "I don't do that, go straight to your regular diet" I am scared because I see almost every patient here says their doc recommends the liquid diet. Anyone been told not to do it n has anyone had regular food after a fill? Thanks greatly appreciate all your responses.

I can't hardly get anything down at all! I just puked up tomato soup! But yesterday a day after my fill I ate chicken broth some coffee and hot fries and it went down pretty good! I went from having 6.8cc to 7.5 in my 10cc band. Will this pass and I should give it a week or so or am I just too tight?!!

I was banded in May 2010 and did superbly - until about half way to my goal. At that point, and as predicted, I got cocky and really just enjoyed the new sizes, energy, compliments, etc. I started to slide downhill and have recently returned to the doctor and am trying to get back on track. My slide is manageable. Is this a good place for support or is there a forum better suited to those struggling? Thanks, Luu.

I'm over a month post-op. This morning I started the day with a greek yogurt, which is very typical. About 2 hours later I felt seriously nauseous. I've been continually nauseous every since. I've had a few hiccups but no throwing up, and some gas relief. I've stayed away from eating today because I feel so terrible [i had applesauce for lunch], but now I'm getting hunger and I feel like I should at least try to eat. Spoke with the PA at the surgeon who said as long as I'm not throwing up, my band is okay. I'm not sure whether I'm getting the flu or something else is going on. Anyone have a similar experience or have any suggestions?

I have been at goal for a few months so I experiment with new foods. Well i'm addicted to crunchy peanutbutter. I have at least two tablespoons a day and usually with a apple. I count it with my calories and I stay within my limit but I can't stop eating it whether it be for breakfast, or lunch or snack. It's a good fat and source of protein, high in calories but it feels like a treat for me esp if I throw a tablespoon of ff cool whip on it.

Ok, so I have this crazy goal, that when I get to my goal weight, I want to go to India and climb to Upper Dharamsala and hang with the Dhali Lama. I just do. I'm not Buddhist. I just think it would kick ass! Also, I want to mess with the heads of men....but thats my meaner goal! Hahah....kidding . I do want to wear a bikini, though....but probably not in Dharamsala.

I can have up to 4cc's .. My first fill i got 1.3 and was not restricted at all. i went back a month later and i have 2.3 cc's .. Its been about a month now and i still am having issues. at times i eat a few bites and get stuck and i puke it up. depending on the food i can still eat a a decent amount and not fill full.. I stop eating because i get stuck and want to throw it up.. I am wondering if this is normal.. How much can somebody eat and feel full.. My mom has the band and feels full after 3 bites. I never get the full sensation.. I always get stuck.. Do i need another fill to get the full sensation??

I was banded in Mexico, with directions from their nutritionist. I also have a local nutritionist, but neither one has given me a calorie goal included in my plan during recovery. I have a telephone appointment coming up in a few days, and I will clarify, but I'm really curious to know what the rest of you are doing and what is/isn't working. In normal dieting, I know a low calorie diet can sometimes make the body go into famine mode and lower metabolism, but does that happen with the band? I would like to make my goal 900 calories/day - has anyone been successful with that kind of number?

Well folks......I had my first "stuck" episode on Monday night. Home by myself and absolutely my own fault. chicken and steamed cauliflower. I was eating too fast, bites were too big and I definitely was not chewing enough. I waited a minute for the uncomfortableness to pass but it didn't. So I stood up, hoping that would help it go down but nope. A PB and up it came, slime and all. I feel like a real bandster now! lol Here is the positive in this experience. I wasn't scared because all of you have been so good in describing what happens and most of all on how to prevent it from happening again. Also, it made me know that I NEVER want to do that again so I will be more …

I have some questions and i'm sure i can find the answers here... When i started in May of last year i was at 402. I'm now fluctuating at 330. My band can't get any tighter, but i don't feel full. I'm definitely eating less than i was pre surgery, but more than i need to. I'll be honest, i don't eat Proteins first, then veggies, then carbs. And that might be the problem. I'm working out 4 times a week and losing inches still, but want to keep dropping pounds. Just from my past diet history before the band I would get weak and gain all the weight back plus some so i guess that's why i'm scared. I'm not going to let that happen just looking for tips or info on diet …

Hi All, So I have been banded since 10/2011 and have had no issues except slow weighloss (35lbs to date). However for the past 3-4 weeks I have been having heartburn at night and in the morning, also this tickling feeling in my chest. I was ill with a virus and saw my PCP and we contributed these things to post nasal drip and such. Well it hasnt gone away. And its this constant burning feeling. Just wondering could it be a slip or erosion? The nurse I just spoke to, said "oh you probably need an unfill" I think its more than that. I am not a very bold person and kinda "just do as I am told" person., but do you think I should requeat a barium swallow or X-ray? I h…

I tried a tsp of them in the last drink of my shake this morning and was pleasantly surprised by how well they kept me satisfied! I finished my shake at 7:45 this morning and didn't start getting hungry until 11:15. I even had a few that got stuck in my permanent retainer and couldn't believe how much they expand. LOL

I discovered an amazing chocolate treat. Cool whip lite or ff mixed with unsweetened cocoa. Just mix to taste and eat, fridge or freeze which is my favorite way. Also good to add PB2. The chocolate comes out a rich dark. I have also tried instant sf ff puddings but they have too much sodium for me.the lemon does taste incredible. Enjoy!

Ok I think I have identified my problem. I was of course so very excited to get into the one hundreds that now every morning it says 190 something I'm like "great! No worries!" I just am not as motivated to get into the 18o's. consequently I have been at the same weight for about a month now. I am short, my goal weight is 140. 197 does not look good on me and I have much much cuter clothes waiting for me at around 160, but that seems so far away. I am down two sizes right now and Am really loving fitting into clothes that have been in my drawer for a couple years now. I think the next number I am excited about is 175, but that seems far away too! I can't think of anything…

Hello! Nice to see alot of people taking control over their health/life. I survived the High Protein Clear Liquids and I am starting the High Protein Full Liquids today. Any of you guys keep note of your calorie intake per day? Am I suppose to include the calories from the protein drink? I don't quite understand when they say dont add protein calories on my calorie count. Is getting 800 cal per day easy?

Last Night I was watching one of those discovery channel shows, about Grizzly Bears..........I know, so what.... Anyhow, something interesting caught my attention... A grizzly Bear (mammal) will go into Hibernation for 6 months, and will not eat or drink ANYTHING for the entire 6 months...but will burn up 100 lbs of stored fat to maintain life and all the needed nutrition to do so.... After hibernation, the Grizzly will spend the next 6 months putting that 100lbs of extra weight back on for the next winter... What does this have to do with us? Probably nothing, other than I have always been puzzled about people stating they are not eating enough, or need to eat mo…

So, they came to the door and my wife bought a box of samoas and a box of thin mints. I love samoas and several others but the thin mints are awful. I already ate 1/2 box of the samoas. I'll be visiting the grocery store during the school days to avoid the little tykes stands of processed bleached flour, refined sugar with many other unsavory ingredients. I used to buy a box or two and they would send them to the troops. But, last year not many Moms wanted to do that? So, take my advice and grocery shop while they're in school or face the temptation but mostly, those cute little faces in their little uniforms begging for your money? tmf

Does anyone had to change their band after a certain time ? I've just read that the life duration of the band may be 3 years because of complications : '' One caution with LAGB is the uncertainty about whether the low complication rate extends past three years, given a possibility of increased band-related complications (e.g., erosion, slippage) requiring re-operation. The meeting is a go! We will be meeting on Thursday, January 31 (last Thursday of the month) at 6:30pm. At Mochalux Coffee & Tea Co. 1101 E. Bardin Rd, suite 101, Arlington, TX 76018. It is off Interstate 20 and S. Collins in a strip behind Chicken Express. They charge a fee of $25/hour to let us meet and to reserve seats, but that fee is waived if we purchase $30 worth of drinks/products. Hopefully you won't mind chipping in towards that amount in case we don't purchase enough. I'm thinking this first meeting will be more of a meet and greet and we can discuss what kinds of things we are hoping to accomplish in our meetings. Also, it shouldn't last longer …

Hey friends - I have not posted on this site in such a long time. I have had a year of pure hell. And that's putting it lightly. I had my lap band placed November 13th, 2009. In the first 4 months I lost 45 pounds. It will be 2 years since I had the band in 2 days. Since then I have not lost about 8 more pounds. I worked my butt of trying to lose this weight. I was very cautious about what I was eating and following the lap band diet. I even joined Gold's Gym and hired a personal trainer for an entire year. Even though I could only afford to see her two times a month, when I saw her, she worked me to the bone. I managed to lose about 8 pounds. My lowest weight was 192. …
