I am almost 3 years post surgery and there are STILL times I forget and take a big drink, a big bite, etc. The drinks I usually don't remember in time and end up bending over so it just pours back out of me...not even a vomit - just literally like you dump out a glass of water - out it comes. But maybe 1-2 a year I forget and take a big honking bite of something...the first time I swallowed and paid DEARLY with my first stuck episode. A few times I've remembered and spit out my food going "what was I thinking?!" I guess it makes sense...40 years of eating one, I am bound to inadvertently forget. Does anyone else??

to celebrate my first full day of solid food! The family tagged along and I had 1/2 a cup of Chicken Vindaloo, rice and naan bread. I firmly believe there will be Indian food in heaven. Mistress Band kept my love of eating in submission (her specialty), so I could concentrate on my love of food. I honestly believe that I spent most of the meal with my eyes closed concentrating on the flavors.

Hello there, I will be getting my lap band surgery at the end of February through Credit Valley Clinic. I was wondering if any one knew what their post-surgery diet breakdown is. I have noticed that the amount of days spent in each phase (liquids-mush solids) varies from doctor to doctor. Also if anyone has had their band put in there, I would appreciate hearing about your experience. Thank you

Today is Feb 2, 2013 how is everyone doing on their personal journey. I reached my personal goal last September and have managed to maintain my weight now for 5 months. I am still working out with my trainer 2 days a week and doing some cardio off and on. I have not had a fill since Jan 30, 2012. I can't believe I have made it a year without adding to my band. I do have days when I feel hungrier than others but those days are few and far between. Hope everyone is doing well. Check in and let everyone know how your doing.

I am being banded 1/31 at NYU. I'm nervous! Excited too of course. Wondering if I should stay with family in burbs after surgery so I can walk around yard to walk off gas.instead of being bumped into on the streets. Thoughts?

I had my band last Jan 24. During the pre op and nutrition class, they told us to eat a minimum of 800 cal/day. I have been keeping a log of what I eat everyday and I am having difficulty getting that much calories in me. I am averaging 550 -650 cal per day. The protein is about 60-70 grams/day. Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions on how to up my calorie intake. Thanks.

Hey everyone, So I go in on the 30th for my first fill and I'm super excited!!! I'm not so sure what to expect, Is it going to hurt, am I going to feel any different? Also I wanted to get feedback about when most of you really started to notice the most weight loss, A lot of people say around 5 months for after 3 or 4 fills, but I know that everyone is different. If anyone has any advice I'd love it, Thanks!

I had surgery a year ago, a fill 10 weeks ago. All of a sudden it's hard to take my pills. Could this be band slippage? How do you tell if your band has slipped? I haven't thrown up but very little. Also, I've gained a little weight. Please let me know what you think.

I had lap band surgery right about a year ago. I had my last fill 10 weeks ago. Now, all of a sudden I have a really hard time swallowing my pills; a hard time swallowing anything hardly. Can your band actually tighten on it's own? What could have happened?

Ok here goes.. I had been in denial about how much I was vomiting(my roommate reminded me)I was throwing up meds and Water at times In the last two weeks I fainted twice. I landed in ER and was diagnosed with vasovagal syncope and my pcp said I was extremely dehydrated. After some introspectal thinking, I have come to the realization that I am totally turned off by food unless it is sweet and junky. I usually do Greek yogurts with babybel and granola for lunch and dinner and a Protein shake for Breakfast I am getting really tired of what I eat.. Any suggestions for a low maintenance preferably no cooking meal plan? I do see a therapist and IM working with her. I …

Pre-band the hubs and I would occasionally go to a little chinese joint down the street from us. They don't use MSG there and their sodium counts appear to be less. I use to eat General Tso chicken, but now realize exactly how horrible that was for me. One of my other favs was chicken and broccoli, which I thing would be pretty healthy. Is there any healthy chinese take out? I don't mind leaving off the rice, but what main dish won't kill me on calories? I am craving chinese some kinda bad, I know you can make it at home, but I want the real deal.

I am new to this board but feel like I'm in the right place! My banding is tomorrow at 8:30am! I am excited but nervous. Had to take a Xanax each day this week just to keep the bad thoughts away. My Dr required absolutely no pre-op diet. I was nervous about that, but found mention of others with similar situations on this forum. I've tried several shakes/protein powders just so I know what to expect. Like most, I've spent years gaining and losing the same 50 lbs. As my 50th Bday approached I decided to finally do something about it. After 4 months of a medically supervised program, Aetna rejected the procedure TWICE! Inexplicably, they reversed prior to a scheduled pe…

Seems like I'm always going to get a fill or fluid taken out? I've had the band for 2 years. Is this a normal routine to do? I go about every 2-3 months to add or take out. And on the other hand I have a friend that had hers for 6 years and hasn't had a fill or fluid removed in 4 years.

Besides the fact that I don't have any insurance an can't see my doctor... I have this crippling fear of going back an seeing him especially if it comes down to getting a fill.. My last fill he did he was poking around for 15-20 minutes cause he kept missing the port which caused me terrible pain an I even started crying while he was doing it... Idk what to do I'm sure this isn't normal to have a fear/phobia that sends me into panic attacks when going to see a doctor...

I've been a member of this forum for just about a year now...and have definitely found that reading about the experiences of others and discussing topics related to best practices about adjusting to the new way life with your band to be beyond helpful. They have saved me many a phone call to my surgeon's office. My concern is that there are some forum members who seem to have taken it upon themselves to venture beyond the spirit of the forum and write in terms of "this is the way you do that". My perspective, which I realize is tempered by my professional training and experience, is that each of us has the right to read what we choose, and can either accept/try the "ad…

I am sure their is no such a thing, but I am craving something ferce. I am wanting a piece of cake or cookie - something like that. Weight before surgery 281 lbs (bad news folks) Got it down to 237 lbs (good news folks) Got on the sacles this week 266 lbs (sad face folks) Booked in for a fill, had 3 ml in there from first fill after surgery. Doc put in another .5 ml and said see me in a week . Been back at the gym all week and taking it a day at a time. Can't beleive I got this complacient when I have a lap band and your ongoing support. It has been almost nine years and you sort of forget its there to be used.

Hey everyone, So today I went in nervous as hell not knowing what to expect from getting a fill and it was NOTHING! No pain it was done in 10 minutes... My doctor did numb the area so that helped and he put in 5cc in my band. He had me do a crunch to find my port then he put the liquid in and had me sit up and drink water, at first I thought I was going to throw it back up so he took some out and slowly kept putting the liquid in and finally with 5cc in I could keep the water down. I'm on liquids only for 2 days then muchies for a day then I can eat normally. So for everyone who is scared of getting there first fill trust me it was a piece of cake =] In my last post I thi…

As you guys can probably guess from the thread title, I'm having trouble finding a way to tell my friends I'm getting the surgery. I only have one other overweight friend and she's actually talked to me about wanting the surgery herself, but me telling her I'm getting it is a whole different ball game. Anyway, my point is that most of my friends are skinny and honestly, it seems a little strange telling them about me getting banded. So do I tell them or not? I mean eventually, they'll notice my new eating habits. And if I do tell them, when? Before, or after the surgery? It's just really difficult because none of my friends are really alike. Like I said, one is …

How are you all doing? Have you made your goal weights yet? I was just thinking about how my two year bandiversary is coming up and I haven't even come close to the progress I had hoped for on surgery day. It's totally my fault. I know what to do to lose the weight but have chosen not to all the time. I was all gung ho during 2011 and then lost motivation often during 2012. I have never regretted getting the lap band. I felt so out of control before. I was gaining weight every year and hadn't changed my eating or activity levels. I was scared. Post lap band, I have such a sense of control and security knowing that I won't balloon up despite good eating and exercise effo…

I'm getting back in the saddle as they would say, and starting over after having a baby and issues the last few years. My Dr. told me on Friday he wants me to stay between 1000-1200 calories a day. Well I've never had to count my calories before and I'm not really sure where to start. So I'm wondering if you can point me in the right directions, websites, any good recipes, meal planning. I'm not a picky eater the only thing I don't like is seafood (I can do tuna and that is about it). Thanks in advance for the help

Hey everyone, this post is for all the ladies out there. Just wondering how you guys handle everything that comes with your time of the month, Like how do you handle cravings and the bloating, and are cramps much worse with the band? I have not had a period in over a year due to my IUD and after I lost my first 20lbs I got a period and I was shocked lol But the cramps were horrible and of course all I wanted to do was lay in bed and eat chocolate and watch lifetime haha so anyway I was just wondering how you ladies go about staying on track even when aunt flo is in town

Hi everyone, I'm hoping for some advice. I was banded on 9/20/12. In two months I lost 30 lbs. Since then--around December I haven't lost anything, they wouldn't fill me last time because I had a head cold. I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow And will voice my frustrations. Essentially what I feel is happening is that after a fill I'm good for about a week or so and feeling full during meals. After that though, I feel like my body is adjusting to more food and I just continue to eat because I'm not full. I have been making all sorts of low fat & low cal food (so many new cookbooks) so I know I'm trying. I just don't want to feel like I'm a failure and…

The meeting is a go! We will be meeting on Thursday, January 31 (last Thursday of the month) at 6:30pm. At Mochalux Coffee & Tea Co. 1101 E. Bardin Rd, suite 101, Arlington, TX 76018. It is off Interstate 20 and S. Collins in a strip behind Chicken Express. They charge a fee of $25/hour to let us meet and to reserve seats, but that fee is waived if we purchase $30 worth of drinks/products. Hopefully you won't mind chipping in towards that amount in case we don't purchase enough. I'm thinking this first meeting will be more of a meet and greet and we can discuss what kinds of things we are hoping to accomplish in our meetings. Also, it shouldn't last longer …

(the 1st 2 did nothing) i have a bit of restriction now. my last fill was 2 months ago, yet the last 2 weeks im struggling to get food down.is this normal? i dont think its the band. food seems to get stuck between the point of swallowing and reaching my stomach. i have to quit eating.i either wait along painful time for it to go down or i have to be sick. its like my oesophagus goes into lockdown. its especially embarrassing if in the company of others coz nobody knows ive got a band. im sure a couple of friends think im bulimic.i'm not. i would like to know if anyone else has experienced the same?? why does it happ…

I'm over a month post-op. This morning I started the day with a greek yogurt, which is very typical. About 2 hours later I felt seriously nauseous. I've been continually nauseous every since. I've had a few hiccups but no throwing up, and some gas relief. I've stayed away from eating today because I feel so terrible [i had applesauce for lunch], but now I'm getting hunger and I feel like I should at least try to eat. Spoke with the PA at the surgeon who said as long as I'm not throwing up, my band is okay. I'm not sure whether I'm getting the flu or something else is going on. Anyone have a similar experience or have any suggestions?

I absolutely love my job! I teach Family and Consumer Science, formerly known as Home Ec. It's great! I have several cooking classes and use the opportunity to try to teach the kids about eating heathy. They do on occasion want to cook things that's aren't as healthy. It can be so tempting!! I do have to taste what they cook to make sure it turned out correctly. I guess it's a hazard that I can live with!

After a bad sickness have you ever experienced your stomach swelling and your band get tighter? I was sick a week ago with a bad cold and I think from all that nasty coughing that it irritated my band and stomach and now have to have fluid taken out. Is this happened to you and feel that it's a normal part of this process of having the band?
