I am seeking a new doctor that is willing to fight my insurance for the sake of the their patient (ME). I have been going thru 7 months of dr. appts, guided and recorded diet for 6 months, 6 months of dietician appt., 2 sleep studies, cardiologist, a psychologist, and we had United Health Care and they gave all the requirements for consideration and I met all those. At finalizing all of it, my husband's job changes their insurance to Aetna POS II and they are saying that Bariatric is excluded. I was told that I needed to have dr. office submit a "medically necessary" with all the clinicals and they would put it thru their medical team. Well, it was just said (on tel…

I'm in the houston area and have an appointment with them. I called to discuss how exactly they work for cash pay patients. I have insurance but excludes bariatric surgery. They asked if I had reflux and/or heartburn and if they found anything, they code knock off money off the price on their "coding" to my insurance. Anyhoo- just wondering if anyone had an good or bad experiences. Take Care!

I know he's been discussed here before, but I haven't seen any recent posts about him, so is anyone using Dr. Veninga for their surgery? Has anyone here used him in the last 3-6 months? How was your surgery? How did you like the Optifast? Are you using Juice Plus? Any updated thoughts would be fantastic!

Ok so my husband and I are stationed in Ohio. He is Army and a recruiter, so we don't have an MTF, but there is one an hour away, Wright Patterson AFB. I called them and asked if they perform the VSG and they said they don't do that surgery on base anymore! Seriously? This is the one time in my life I have been so sure about this decision and now I am basically being told I can't have it done. I don't want gastric bypass, I know a few friends that have had it done and have had many complications and I'm a bit scared of all of that. The LapBand was my second choice, but I don't want to settle just because Tricare and the hospital is being difficult. Now I'm stuck and I don…

Hi, I am brand new to this forum. I have definitely decided for the sleeve and my insurance is an absolute no-go, so I'm self- pay. I am debating between NYU and Mexicali/Dr. Aceves . I could use any advice pros and cons. It is all pretty overwhelming. Also , can someone verify that you CAN cross the border with the enhanced ID. Thanks!

Hello, I have a question to anyone who can answer it... I just got lapband on 8/28/12... And I have to go for my fill in 6wks.. I was told that I have to follow a liquid diet for 2wks, then muchy soft foods 3wks after that... And so on... My question is.... On the day of my surgery, is my lapband filled? Is it just the band alone? Sorry if I sound uneducated about this but I honestly don't know.. only because I feel hungry at times & I know when people get their lapband filled, they're not..

I am considering Lap Band surgery. I live in NYC and wanted to know if anyone has advice on the surgeons in NYC? I am hoping my insurance will cover it. If not I am considering the self pay option. Does anyone have advice about either option?

My oncologist highly recommended me to the NEW Program in Newport Beach, CA. I am pretty comfortable with Dr Tihonov doing the surgery although I found almost nothing on Google about him. Tri City Regional in Hawaiian Gardens sounds a little scary if the Yelp reviews are true... Any sleevers out there with first-hand experience to share?

Hello I live in Mchenry Illinois can any one refer me to a good doc in my area

It is Monday and I had to make my weekly call, again. I had my sleep study July 26, and my nuclear stress echo on August 13. I have been pre-approved by BCBS of IL and gotten clearance from the psychologist (that is all BCBS requires). But my 2 specialist Doc's are dragging their feet getting my letters to Dr.Joyce's office. I started by calling BMI surgery and struck the jackpot by talking to the Coordinator, herself! She initially said they did not have anything from the pulmonologist, but when I told her they promised me last week they were faxing the letter-she SUDDENLY found it! But the cardiologist clearance was still not on file. So I called the the Cardiolo…

I'm deciding between several surgeons in Mexico to be banded. I've read every forum topic regarding surgery in Mexico, and read all the posts on people experiences with the different doctors. What I'm wondering is if there is a place I can go to find hard, solid, medical FACTS on these doctors and the hospitals/clinics they practice in? Such as properly filed complaints, lawsuits, etc. etc. I want to find cold hard stats on the doctors, not opinions. It's nice to read different peoples experiences that they've had with these doctors, but that only tells me so much. Thanks in advance for pointing me in the right direction! Amber

just wanted to advise people to do research on surgeons before they commit. I committed to a surgeons office only to have the patient co-ordinator mismanage my case. Then when I decide to go through a different surgeons office calls me the day after notifying the first office to harass me. I don't tolerate harassment and I dont think its very professional on her part. Her actions make the surgeon look bad and thats a huge mistake on her part. I'm furious!!! houston sleevers be warned! Their not always as great as they seem. *this on no way reflects on the surgeon himself

So a P.A. calls me this morning to tell me that my blood is low. She asks me if I've ever had Anemia. I have had issues with this over the years due to irregular cycles. Which were caused by PCOS; the PCOS is one of the factors of me gaining & having a hard time losing weight.....which is why I was having the Lapband in the first place. Catch 22 definitely. UGH!! So frustrating. I guess its time for the Iron supplements again.....I refuse to allow this bump in the road stop or deter my October surgery date.

I am interested in speaking with someone concerning the lapband procedure. I live about an hour away from Greenville but definitely have faith in the physicians in Greenville. My husband suffered a massive heart attack 2 years ago and through the Lord and the surgeons at Pitt Memorial - he survived. The quality of care outweighs what we can receive in Jacksonville. Do you have a website or may I get the information to contact your office? Thank you for your time, God bless, Jaleena

Hi everyone Im new to lap band community. Recently, I have taken the choice to get the lap band. Right now I'm getting paper work in place to see if my insurance will approve it. Wish me luck. Now that I been wanting to get the lap band and looking at blogs. I am starting to second guess myself after reading everyone post about the risk of slipping and Erosion of band into stomach and bands leaking. Is that normal to think like that?I know its a small percent that it happens to people with the band. I just thinking long term risk. I know if I dont get the lap band, I am putting my health at risk by being at the weight that I am at. I am tyring to think positive about ge…

Hi Sleevers, I went for my checkup with Dr. Dumkowsky in Florida. I was almost overcome when I went there. I surprised myself. I didn't think that I would be emotional, but I was. I didn't know how to say thank you for my life. I was so unhealthy with high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, joint pain, etc. I feel like a different person. I AM a different person. Thank you once again, Dr. Domkowsky for giving me the confidence to go forward with the sleeve. You're an angel.

Ok I started my jorney with Kaiser for the 2nd time ( the first time they required options classes for 24 weeks) In Feb. I did not wait for my PCP to submit the refferal, I called the Health Ed and preventive medicine dept in Riverside and got scheduled for the orientation. The orientatation was on Feb 2nd. I recieved a call that following Tuesday asking If I can start the classes on Feb 10th ( I think it was that soon because I choose the morning for classes) . So I started my first Option class on Feb 10th, and finished on April 27th. During the classes they do tell you who you will be having surgery with, but do not go over the surgeons requirements. So for Riv…

I did a lot of searching for info regarding the Kaiser process and it was hard to find. I'm putting this out there for anyone else with Kaiser that is interested 4/29/11 - I had an appointment with my PCP at Kaiser in Brea (So. Cal). I am 5'7 and my weight was 298. I asked for a referral for the Options program. She told me I would have to do a supervised three month diet with a program like Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig or Lindora before she can refer me. She said to email her when I finished the three months. 9/29/11 - I emailed my PCP on and asked for the referral. Her LVN replied that she was out of the office and would get back to me in a couple of days. I never …
