Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals

Reviews and experiences with weight loss surgeons and hospitals. Surgery costs, hospital stays, and what to expect.

  1. Started by AZPete,

So after a long night of trepidation I decided to contact another doctor to get a second opinion on my band to sleeve revision. I found Dr Juarez on the Internet and was looking to see if anyone had any information first or second hand in dealing with him and his office. I am currently scheduled to have my band removed and then wait 3 months for the sleeve. My insurance covers revisions from band to sleeve. However if it is removed, I then have to requalify all over again. My current doctor who placed the band has tried to urge me into the direction of the RNY. which is her bread and butter procedure. I opted for the sleeve. However I just don't see the point in waiting t…

Let's say a pa has worked under a Dr for several years assisting with 2000 surgeries and has even done 500 of these surgeries on her own now how confident might you be to allow her to be hour Dr and perform this surgery even with main Dr being there in case an issue arises? Everybody has to learn their jobs and be left alone eventually, right?

  6. Dr Wilkenfeld is alright, but his staff is the WORST! I had two appointments with Tina (pre-op and post-op) she was 1.5 hours late for the first one because they had to call her in and let her know she was seeing patients that day. She didn't show up at all for the 2nd appointment for the same reason and I had one of the office staff conduct my appointment. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. I paid cash for my procedure, but I also provided all my insurance information, as requested, FOUR times (3 times to Dr. W and once to the surgical center). I was assured that if they discovered and repaired a hernia, that my insurance may be billed for that particular procedure, but that I wo…

I will be the first to say,I really am thankful for Dr.Wizeman.He did not do my surgery but has taken good care of me since I was banded. He has done all my fills and after care and I would not hesitate to recommend him as a surgeon. His staff has been very kind to me even though I had my surgery in TJ,Mexico he took me right from the start and I have been with him a year so if you are looking for a surgeon or after care in South Florida he is the best.

  17. Started by Jobsies,

I had my surgery September 22, 2008, after sixteen months of fighting insurance. During my journey, I had checked out three surgeons/programs before deciding on Dr. Neff. The first doctor was actually a few years ago, after a friend had RNY...I decided I just wasn't ready yet. Then when I decided to research surgery again, I first went to the Virtua meeting. I admit, I was turned off a bit that the surgeon didn't show up for the group meeting. We were told he had a cold. The program seemed fine, but I wasn't sure. A friend suggested I go to Kennedy's seminar and meet Dr. Neff. I am so happy I did. Dr. Neff is one of the kindest people I have ever met. I say this…

Hi! I'm looking into getting VSG in Belgium (it's too expensive in England and I have to self pay ) and was wondering has anyone had the vsg in Belgium? I am considering Dr Toon Sonneville/Dr Marc focquet and they do it at the St Elizabeth hospital in Belgium. The reason I chose belgium was because it's only a 30-40 plane ride away and cheaper than England. I haven't made enquiries yet though as I am still saving but would love to hear if anyone has an experiences of surgery in belgium. Thankyou in advance!

  21. OMG...I need prayers, chants, incense...waht ever you do for good vibes. My surgeons office just called ( on a Sat even) to confirm that they switched from one hospital to another...she said it was fine, that his 1st assistant is injured so he's using his back up...paperwork is being submitted to UHC this week for auth. I went to my UHC sight, and this new hospitl does not appear to be in network ( though the hospital sight says they take UHC). Non network is 30% vs my 10%...which IF they take payments for my portion that is fine...if not...well...that's where my stress comes in! If I have to wiat until 2013, I will have lost all the money I put and start over again....Tr…

I am just finding out that Tricare won't cover the sleeve through a civilian surgeon. Balboa in San Diego is the closest military hospital to me that does the procedure. It is 5 hours away from me but I guess that is doable. Does anyone have any experience with them, I would really love some help with this process. Who I need to talk to, what questions to ask, how much I can get done locally so I don't have to drive that far a bunch of times. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out.

I have been overweight and miserable for years carrying between 360 and 376 lbs. I knew I had to do something or die, I was always out of breath and depressed all the time about the shape I was in. So Nov of 2009 I had had enough and went to a siminar and knew right then what I needed to do. I had surgery on Jan 14, 2010 and as of Mar 20, have lost 53 lbs. I am feeling good, walking better and do not get out of breath, I am starting to exercise for the first time in years. God bless Dr Holsaeter and his staff.

I was all about the sleeve until my dr (military hospital) seems not that involved with my procedure and moved it from Nov 30 to sometime in January because he stated that the hospital is busy and due to the holidays as well. This remark from him made me really nervous because I need a surgeon who is 100 percent about me and my wls. Now I am thinking of moving towards the Bypass and finding a doctor that works mainly with wls. I was so excited but Im just afraid that the dr and the military hospital wont give me the support that I need after surgery, I barely get any support now I do all the foot work on my own.

I did a search in this forum, and it didn't pull anything up on him in any other posts. I also can't find him on the state medical board list. I'm sure I just may not be putting in enough info or something. Is anyone familiar with this doctor or the faciility out of which he practices in Decatur, Tx? I have no information on this surgeon. I'm just curious since it's the closest WLS location to me. My thanks ahead of time.

Hi All.... I have been gone for awhile, had to change insurance and now I get to start over again. I was hoping to get back to see the doctor that previously did my band (which has since been removed) however, I just found out yesterday and I can't see him. So I have to see Dr. Patching in Sacramento. Anybody have any experience with him?? I was really hoping to see the surgeon I already knew, but I guess that's not an option. Any insite would be appreciated. Thanks Vicki

Anyone here going to Dr. Ray in Bloomington? I just started the process at his office. The staff has been very nice. I won't be able to attend the next support group since I'll be splashing around in my favorite place on the planet, Cocoa Beach :) So I just wanted to see who all is out there and ask about your experiences. He said he's done over 500 patients so I'm sure someone is out there, right??? Look forward to meeting you all in May. I'll be at that support group meeting.

Hello! I had a Lap band placed in Feb 2010. Lost 25 lbs and gained it all back. Started having gallbladder problems about 6 months later and had to have my G-bladder removed less than 1 year after surgery. I later found out, my weight issues are more hormonally and endocrine related. I feel that all the band has managed to help me do is maintain. Just as heavy as when I started and very discouraged about it. I used a Dr. where I live, in Texarkana, only to find out later (when I wasn't losing weight fast enough) what a jerk he is. Where his bedside manner went....who knows? Anyway, I am looking for a Dr. in the Dallas area who could remove my band without judgement and wi…
