I'm 4 months post-op I can take regular swallows. I have to drink slowly, no chugging though :-)

I have a question too. I'm new to this board so I don't know about proper posting protocol. I had surgery on 9/4. I still can't eat. Everything I put in my mouth makes me sick. I evev switched toothpaste Is okay to just get used to things for a few day and just take water , vitamins and meds? Then start protein shakes when I can tolerate water?

Yes, in fact my Dr. Said just clear liquids for 4 weeks. If your stomach isn't ready, don't push it. Stick to broths, sf popsicles, sf jello, etc... And chk with your Dr. Good luck!

And welcome!

I could take regular swallows about 2 weeks out.

I went through this for nearly 3-4months! Everything I ate & drank made me sick! You shouldn't really be eating anything this early though. Your only 2 weeks out right? If so stick to liquids, and sugar free pops- if you feel like you have to eat do soft mushy foods, like mashed potato's, humus, etc. Follow the diet your dr gave you exactly!!

I'm 3 months and I can drink quickly but not a whole bottle. Just 2/4oz in one setting then wait a while till I get more if I need more water.

I could only sip at first, now I am 5 months post op and can take regular sips now. But sometimes if I chug too much it hurts which puts me right back to "regular" sips.

I'm 6 weeks post op and forget to sip wow that can hurt like all get out. I forget to chew chew chew eat to fast all the things we did when we were bigger.

This takes some getting use to.

Surgery Anniversary 7/30/12

I'm going to be 7 weeks on Wednesday and I can swallow regular now. I think I was able at able a month

Surgery 7/25/12

I am with bbdoodle, I am 3 months out today. I find in the mornings I am really thirsty when I wake up and find myself taking bigg gulps of water but I regret it because my stomach starts to hurt so now I take small sips but occasionally forget. Just be careful and take sips.

I am not sure if this is where I post this..I apologize if not.. I have a question I'm due for my surgery on Wednesday...but have come down with a cough 2 days ago I'm doing everything possible to get better before Wednesday cause I'll be really disappointed if the surgeon decides reschedule my surgery..question is does anyone think he will or not? I'm really excited and I know I will be disappointed a bit. Thanks
