4 weeks post op & scale isn't decreasing

The weight did not come on in 4 weeks ... you can't expect it to come off in 4 weeks. Stick to your surgeon's instructions and you will loose - I promise !!! We have all been there. Has your surgeon released you for exercise? Once you are out of the healing period and start your new life that is eating healthy and exercising it will all come off but this surgery is a tool to help you lose the weight - surgery alone will not do it, its a combo of diet and exercise

    Not big enough for WLS?

I just made it, I am 5'4", I weighed 216 and my BMI was 35 and I was totally cleared for surgery. I am 2 yrs post op and feeling great. Do what YOU want to do and of course what the insurance company will pay for. This was the best decision I ever made !!!!.

    Still struggling a bit

Has your doctor given you anything for the pain? When your body is in constant pain you do not heal as quick. If there is nothing surgically wrong I would as for more pain meds.

    Fish, shellfish, nuts, tree nuts

I cannot tolerate beef, pork, or chicken much, plus I don't have a taste for it anymore either. My taste buds really changed since surgery!

    Kids meal and wine

My sister and I had RNY surgery a year apart. When we dine together we order one meal and split it or we just order a small appetizer.

    Liquid diet

Also.... if you eat solids too soon you may have some really bad pains - its not worth it!!!

    Liquid diet

Follow your surgeon's directions, I can't stress how important that is. There are reasons why they want you on liquids, your stomach needs to heal .... plus you lose weight - isn't that what you wanted ?

    Disability after surgery?

You need to check with your employer but most states provide short term disability at 66 1/3% of your pay.

    Pre-Op Question

My surgeon after the first initial one-on-one visit (after the WLS class) gave me a check list of things I needed to complete prior to surgery. Some things need to be done a certain amount of days prior too - for example blood work. When scheduling your appointments make sure you tell them that you need to have your test or procedure done prior to your surgery date and usually they are pretty good at scheduling you in - at least I was with all the tests I needed done.

    sipping water?

My surgeon always said "sip, sip, sip, sip, sip". A few weeks after surgery I once gulped by accident and it hurt. Now I'm 2 yrs post op and still do not gulp but can certainly take a way more than a sip at one time. Do what ever does not cause you discomfort. We are all different and can tolerate different things at different levels.

    Too soon

I was cleared to do anything after 4 wks. I am a quick healer .. but ... my surgeon said if it hurts then don't do it !!! Revisit the particular exercise in a week. I would call your surgeon back and INSIST on seeing him.

When can i start working out?

I was cleared to do anything I wanted after 4 weeks post op. Check with your surgeon....
  16. I had to lose 70 lbs but chose the bypass because you will lose more weight with the bypass than the sleeve. If I was going to go under the knife I wanted the best bang for my buck even though my ins. paid 100%. But that was "MY" choice. I never had one issue, I followed the plan exactly as my surgeon said and I am 2 yrs post op doing fine !!! I take all my Vitamins and get complete blood work done yearly and no issues. I think you should make this decision with your surgeon and educate yourself as much as possible. We are all individuals and if something works for some it may not work for others - so my advise is talk with your surgeon and don't be afraid to ask tons of questions...that is what you are paying him for !! Good luck in making the right decision for you !!!

    meat feels stuck

After surgery I really don't eat meat much at all. I just can't process it and it give me a belly ache. The only time I can eat a tiny bit is if it is cooked in a crockpot and VERY moist. You are not alone !!!
  18. I thankfully did not have to sleep at the center. I wore this thing around my head for 3 nights that recorded everything. It was so much better than sleeping away from your home. I think you can get a much better reading while in your own bed... just my opinion. Good luck !
  19. Also have your gallbladder checked. 6 wks after WLS surgery I had to have my GB removed. If I knew before I would have had my GB when he was doing the RYN.
  20. I had to take a 3 - 4 hour class a week before surgery. The surgeon and his staff went over EVERYTHING with you. I even completed the hospital admission paperwork at that meeting. I received instructions of what will happen before, during and after. What fluids and supplies to purchase before surgery, what to bring to the hospital, your eating/liquid schedule etc. etc. There is tons of information they need to go over, I found the meeting VERY informative and helpful.
  21. Your insurance company probably did not send the approval to your doctor yet. My surgeon's office had a coordinator that you could contact to ask all kinds of questions. The coordinator followed you thru the whole process.

Post op question- further weight loss

Next month I will be 2 yrs post op and I am 20 lbs short of my goal weight. When I tell my surgeon he told me not to focus on the numbers but how I feel. I am a slow loser, run 5 miles a day, get my heart rate up to fat burning mode, eat right, get my Protein and Water in..... etc. etc. I have accepted my weight, I feel great, look good and my blood work is perfect. Sometimes we have done everything in our power to lose and your body is happy where its at.

Need advice- have hit a plateau

Sometimes you level off after a while, you may want to add more Protein and change up and increase your exercise. Make sure you are getting "minimal" 45 minutes of exercise daily AND is your heart rate is the fat burning mode?

    Trouble eating meats

I am the same way, I have a horrible time with meat (beef, pork, chicken, tuna). I will be 2 yrs post op in April and have been that way since surgery. Its strange because I can eat corned beef with no problem - go figure!!! I do drink a Protein shake daily!!!
