This is my third long post on my journey so far. Probably should have been a blog, but no time to keep it up! Thanks for hanging in there with me! “If you work at something with total commitment for a really long time, you will succeed.” 8th grade runner, in newspaper story. Such a simple but profound statement from a young girl who set out to change her life by running. A statement that has come to define my journey. I gauge my progress by non-weight goals. Yes, I do weigh in every morning. I do love to see the scale go down. But my real excitement comes not from the number of my weight, but from the increasing quality of my life. The time I starte…

  4. I have to bring her back every once in awhile... Just got done watching "Extreme Weight Loss". I always feel so inspired when I watch that show. This lady was about the size I was when I had surgery. She was 290 and I was 294. She got down to 149 and then gained 32 pounds back in 3 weeks!!!! She eventually lost it but so scary how she gained it back so quickly. I know it would take alot for us to gain that much weight back in such a short time but still...... I felt her pain. She had such emotional problems. I could relate to her so much. The pain she felt from her past. The pain I felt when I would aways turn to food as a child because I always felt abandoned. Long stor…

I had two pairs of brand new jeans bought a couple years ago that sat in a drawer because they were too small. I finally pulled them out today and guess what? They are too big!!! I got down on the floor last night to look under the bed for something and popped right back up. I was like wow that was easy. I usually take several minutes getting off the ground. I cut my toenails the other night and realized I can just reach down and cut them no problem. It use to take forever just to get in a position to do that. I love love love my lap band!!!

  18. I am 6 days post-op and feeling pretty good. But the more I read the more it amazes me how badly people want to get back to old habits. The questions of 'when can I eat this again', and 'when can I have that' seem to be posted by the hundreds. I have to say I am in NO hurry to eat again. I don't want to visit 'Starbucks' or my local 'bar' as that is partially what put me in this position. Please don't take this the wrong way, I know some of you are just trying to get a feel for what is to come and when you can start doing some things. I just want to reiterate that this surgery is a tool and changes are desperately needed to be successful! Now is the perfect time to make t…

I was banded January 21,2013. I weighed 346 pounds. Have stage 3 COPD. I was on 2 liters oxygen 24 hrs a day and considered permanently disabled. Smoking a half pack of cigarettes a day. I could not walk, talk, and breathe at the same time. I was taking blood pressure meds and cholesterol meds. I think I was well on my way to an early grave just like my momma. She died at 59 years old. I still don't recall what they sighted as cause of death on her death certificate but it was all related to her being morbidly obese. Fast forward to today six months later. I am at 266 pounds, well maybe a few pounds less as I have promised myself to stay off scale for at least a w…

I know that my body needs proper nutrients, but I don't want to become the binge eater I once was. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. The most exciting thing happened yesterday and I became so excited about the rest of my healthy life. I raced my 3 year old son to the mail box and back home. Yes this sounds silly but before there is no way I would have run in public. Yesterday I did it without even a second thought. We used to go on family walks and I would walk behind everyone and watch my husband chase around our kiddos and watch them giggle at him as they chased him down. Now I finally get in on the action. Being overweight I was to scared to go to Disneyland with them because I didn't know if it was safe to ride. I am going to plan a Disneyland trip for Christmas this year and guess what I will be g…

We all know this journey is just as much about the head journey as the scale journey. Today the head journey is winning! Thinking that my weight loss has stopped or being severly altered at just 9 weeks post op. I have lost 45 pounds since surgery pre op on 05052013. This month so far just 8 pounds.. I had a low bmi but wondering is this it? It can't be I know. I try not to be a slave to the scale but I weigh myself at least 3 or more times a week. Trying to be patient but just wondering what is the earliest someone has stopped losing? How could the weight loss slow down so quick! Sure this is my first sign of slowing but the head is messing with me. So glad to be in ONDE…

  27. There are so many temptations in the world that I'm finding it hard to stay on track. I haven't had my surgery yet and I'm supposed to loose 34 pounds before they will even start the process. I'm down 17 but it's like a fight to go out side my home. There are so many fast food restaurants around that I find myself stopping at one on the way home. I've even started leaving my money at home so I can't buy anything. How has everyone else delt with this? I'm struggling every time I leave my comfort zone. It's like I can taste the food I want to eat. I feel like I'm a crackhead. Lol Does anyone have any helpful tools on how to get through this? Please!!!lbvs

I'm two weeks away from surgery, but I wanted to offer some advice regarding alcohol post-surgery. I know this is the type of thing you've probably heard about before, but wanted to share an experience. My ex-wife had bariatric surgery in 2004. At that point, we had been married for 14 years. She was never a drinker before that. I can remember a whole year going by without her even drinking a glass of wine. For the first couple of years after surgery, everything was fine. She lost nearly all of her excess weight. Then, she got a job at a restaurant where the staff would drink a glass of wine together at the end of the night. Within a year, she was an alcoholic. I…

I woke this morning to an email from Alex congratulating me on my anniversary with VST. What a difference a year makes. A year ago, I had just decided to move forward with surgery and joined VST after lurking for a few weeks. A year ago, I was carrying 133 more pounds than I am today. A year ago, I would never have believed that so many people that I had never met, would make such a profound difference in my life. So many of you here have been so many things to me that even those closest to me could not be. You walk in my shoes. We share a unique bond and I am thankful to so many of you for being a wealth of information, mentors, shoulders to lean on an…

I can't believe it has been 5 years! I had my surgery 5 years ago. Since then, I have lost nearly 70 pounds and what a difference that has made to my life. I am more active, feel better, and do more than I did when I was younger. Hope this can inspire someone to get the surgery. BTW, I am almost 65 years old and I'm planning a white water river raft expedition for next week. Something I would never have dreamed of 5 years ago!

So here goes, a before pic and an after pic at 2 months out (at 201 lbs). It's not the best pic/lighting, so don't judge my camera skills. I haven't taken a body shot yet, but I'll post that when I do. Mainly I wanted to show how much you can see it in my face. It's surreal to see the side by side!

  45. Just saw my surgery date ticker and turns out that today, July 19, happens to be 75 days since my surgery on May 6! My highest weight ever was 357 and my weight the day of surgery was 350... today I am 296 meaning I have lost 61 lbs and broke into the 200s! (is that Twoderville, Twonderland, etc ??) At 5'9, my goal weight for now is 200, which means I am 96 lbs away and have achieved 39% of my journey! Now for the NSVs... I have been Instagraming a lot (as many 21 year olds do nowadays)... I hadn't had any pics of myself on my Facebook in years. A restaurant I hadn't been to in awhile has very tight booths - for once I wasn't touching the table at all. I haven…

So, some of you already know, I will have been banded for a year on August 15. In that time, I've lost 100 pounds, and can hardly believe it. It is taking a long time for me to recognize certain victories, but I can say for certain that today was one of the best ones. I had to go to a wedding, and the dress I was planning on wearing ended up being way too big. I didn't know, until I attempted to get dressed, and started to freak out because I had nothing to wear. I called my mom, ran to her house, raided her closet and while holding my breath attempted to wear one of hers. Well, this formally size 24, was able to wear her mother's size 10! That's me, the blonde on the ri…

The only thing that helps my nausea is Phenegran by injection the pill form doesn't work for me. Im so miserable and unhappy with the sleeve.
