  2. What a LONG, strange trip this is that I'm on. I was sleeved on 11/27/12 at 418 pounds. I am now at 298. That's 120 pounds down & about 120 more to go. Being under 300 pounds is monumental for me, though. I honestly wasn't sure that it was ever going to happen. I am obviously not one of those uber success stories that took off all their weight in one year & I am learning to be okay with that, My experience was that for the for 6 months after my vsg it was like the weight melted off. 100 lbs. in 6 months. I thought that I would be to my goal weight in no time. Then it was like I hit a wall. Now if you look at my other posts you will see that I struggled. Struggl…

  4. Started by Vixynne,

I was sleeved July 1, 2013 by Doctor Rayford Kruger at Tobey Hospital in Massachusetts. Here's my official before/after pic, with my stats for both the day of my surgery, and my one year surgiversary. It's mindblowing to me that not only am I NEVER again going to shop in the Plus Size section of any store, but I will willingly step in front of a camera, while wearing a bathing suit. Who is this person?! I have absolutely NO regrets and consider this surgery to have been a total success. For the first time in decades, I'm proud of the way I look and how hard I fought to achieve it, with my sleeve's help. Happy Independence Day, indeed!!

  5. Started by Bandista,

My surgery last November was life-changing. I started my research just over a year ago and was banded November 5th. I'm now eight months into my new life and I'm so happy with the choice I made. In choosing weight loss surgery I was really choosing myself. While I knew that getting a band would help me lose the extra weight I have battled for so many years, I wasn't really prepared for just how powerful I'd feel as a result of making this decision. I have shown up for myself and my healthy future. I chose me, and my self-esteem has skyrocketed. This morning I was at 191. It feels great to be in "Onederland" and now I am looking forward to seeing the eighties soon…

  6. Started by Kindle,

So I normally weigh myself at work on Fridays, but I missed last week because I didn't work that day. So I stepped on the scale this morning and I was at my personal goal of 150 (10 pounds below surgeon's goal)!!! I was super surprised because I actually expected a slight gain after all the crap I munched on over the holiday weekend....apple pie, chips, corn on the cob, margaritas, and strawberry shortcake. (after getting in all my Protein and Water and Vitamins, of course ) I guess that means I'm officially in maintenance. But since I'm not feeling deprived of any foods and already eat as much as I want, I won't really be doing anything different. Yeehaw!

It's crazy to think I had my surgery just in December, as it feels like it's been at least a year! That's a good thing! I feel great!! The first pic was from back in August and this "after" photo was taken this past weekend!

  11. Miss Pearlie is a hot mess I tell you. My personal goal was 150, but nooooooo that wasn't HER goal and as we all know, what Miss Pearlie wants, Miss Pearlie gets. So I've quit freaking out about it and I'm just letting her do her. I'm eating just fine, drinking just fine and maintaining my normal activity level and the weight keeps coming off. Fortunately enough, it has slowed to about a pound a week which is allowing my skin to catch up with it a bit more quickly. My mother and some of my friends were freaking out because after a substantial loss, my skin sags, I look tired and aged. That has tapered off and I am now looking younger than I did before the band...whi…

I am almost 7 months out. Highest was 294. Current weight is 211, little over 80 pounds gone! The first 2 are from my 20th class reunion and I was about 280. The third one was Feb of last year. The 10k was in April and I was about 60 pounds gone I think. After2 is at 65 pounds gone, and the black dress was a few weeks ago at 80 gone.

  14. It was in the context of retelling the tale of me weighing a bale of hay. It was only 60# but apparently I didn't look like I had complete mastery over said bale...Haha Anyway it is a strange thing for someone to refer to me as small or tiny. I looked at photos of women of same height and weight to try to readjust my brain.....as I still see"a woman of substance" in the mirror. I don't think I have excess fat anymore but it is hard for the brain to see myself as smaller sized when I have always been bigger.

  16. I don't have a full length mirror at home, so I took a couple pics in the bathroom at work before starting my pre-op diet. I realized today that I was wearing the same shirt from that day, so I took a progress pic and was a little amazed and delighted at the difference. No one has commented that I look thinner yet, but this shows me that I am indeed changing. Down 31 pounds total from my highest in Feb, 25 since starting pre-op. Happy!

I started my journey weighing 297.8 lbs (10/16/13). I lost 13.2 lbs during the pre op diet. Today, after eating / drinking, I got on the scale. I was amazed to see how much I weighed, even though I've ate today. 198.0!!!!!! I'm not finished with my journey, but I'm feeling so much better about myself. My energy levels, health levels, etc are all so much better!!! I feel so proud of myself, for learning how to take care of myself, thanks to this weight loss tool && all the doctors and nurses that have been on my surgery case. Three weeks ago, almost exactly one year my from RNY I developed kidney stones on both sides. Long story short, it required two ER visits, a hospital stay, and two surgeries later, but I am on the mend. But something happened while in the hospital I couldn't believe. Once I had my surgery, they handed me a menu and said here you go, order whatever you want. No restrictions. What? I had never been in the hospital except for my RNY, but visited countless people that had some sort of restriction, or another. But I could order whatever I wanted? Of course, I had to kill the mood and remind them that I can't have sugar and don't eat too many carbs, but that was my choice a…

So yesterday was my 11th anniversary. I have lost about 65 lbs since surgery and nearly 90 lbs since my highest weight. So my husband brings in a Victoria's Secret bag and I'm thinking to myself, that had better be body spray because that's the only thing that I can wear from Victoria's Secret. But no, he bought several pair of "cheeky" panties. Mind you, I have been shopping for undies at Lane Bryant for nearly all of my adult life but my cute LB panties have become Granny panties. So my husband decided to take matters into his own hands and buy me some new ones. But from VS? I would never dream of buying anything from VS. so, I reluctantly try them on. Drum rol…

Thought I would share. lol !

  36. So what have I been up to for the last year or so? Well, I have not been on here as much as I intended to, and I miss it! To provide a brief back story, my mother passed away a week after I was sleeved (1/4/2012) and it was devastating. As the year progressed I tried to cope and put it behind me, and I think I did to an extent. However, to an equal extent I did not cope with my Mother's passing as much as tuck it away. That always ends well right? The winter/spring of '12/'13 found me at a loss to describe the constant feeling of something lacking. I questioned everything (except my marriage). I never gave up yoga, I have been doing it for over 20 years. The weight…

So I just bought a pair of Levi's size 12. First ones since high school when I ran cross country! And I must say, at 45 I'm way hotter than I was at 16 (IMO ) BYW, I should clarify....I was in wrangler size 12's a month ago, but Levis are cut smaller and I could never wear them once I got "larger". Wranglers were always my goto because they were cut for women that actually had butts. Levis aren't. But now I have no butt and wranglers end up looking saggy. So I'm on the lookout for a pair of my old high school fav...Levis 501 button fly.

Dropped 12 bags of of donations at Goodwill this weekend and decided to stop by Nordstrom Rack to replace some of what was culled. Ended up walking out of there with a couple of size FOUR's. That word looks so weird when I spell it out. One was a pair of 100 dollar designer jeans in a junior cut I picked up on clearance for $22. Not in my wildest dreams would I have thought I'd ever wear a 4.

I just celebrated my 2 year bandiversary in May 2014 and I can agree--this was the best decision I ever made (besides having my kids), I've lost 70 lbs and have thirty to go but im not worried. Taking it VERY slow has worked for me. I took my time to figure out which foods I can and cannot (bread, pizza) eat and three months after surgery I started exercising at the gym and now I do Bikram yoga 4-5 times per week. I feel great. I look great (if I must say so myself) and again,I am so happy I decided to do this.

I went for my 1yr labs this week - my 1yr post-op is in two weeks. The lab is in the same building as my endocrinologist office. He was very supportive when I made my decision to have WLS and I haven't seen him since August when I weighed around 180-190 (two months post-op). He has watched me struggle with my weight and unhappiness for 15 years. I decided to stop by his office to see him and show him my progress. His look of shock and surprise, followed by his huge smile was worth the quick visit! He ran out into the waiting room to get a good look at me. He hugged me and congratulated me! It was a good feeling! :-) :-) :-)

It was so unexpected everybody kept saying that I was steadily losing weight and I kept saying no because last time I checked the scale it said 202-204. I'm so excited I want to shout it out!

Thought I would share my success: So, this morning I had to try about 20 outfits to find one that was not falling off me! There is a big pile of clothes that don't fit on my bed. In the past, it was the reverse! The pile would consist of clothes that were too tight! Not a single pair of my office pants fits me anymore. So, I am going to use my 30% kohls coupon today to buy a couple of pairs to ride me over. Down from pant size 22 to 16! YAY!

I was always exhausted and I slept a lot. I was on a 0 sugar liquid diet. Keep in mind I was also on a 1 week pre-op 0 sugar or low sugar liquid diet the week before. Week 2 post- I w…

Hi all I had my RNY on June 24th. All has gone as I expected to,gas pains surgical pain, etc. The only real problem I had was Fluid retention. My urine output was so low that I had the catheter for an extra day and had to stay in the hospital for an extra day. I also have gained 10 pounds since the surgery. I am guessing it is fluid. Has anyone experienced this and how do you get rid of the excess fluid? Thanks.
