SHARE YOUR STORY....Here's mine My NSV.... I have been taking Water aerobics for a few years. You may know the exercise where you lift your left knee and bring it to your right elbow. Never could quite make the connection but yesterday I DID IT!!!!!! My pool mates cheered with me!!!! It was amazing.. Thank you Lord!!!!

On April 17th of this year I had my VSG. Two weeks prior to surgery I was on 100% liquids with the last week all Clear Liquids. Surgery happens. 2.5 weeks later I was still HATING this decision. food and LIQUIDS hurt when you swallowed more than a thimble full. It was a constant fight against 38 years of practice. I lost many battles. Then something happened. I swallowed instinctively and NOTHING BAD HAPPENED. I remember thinking, "Oh shit! I'm about to pop staples and die from some septic gunk coursing through my veins." Staples held, nothing bad happened, I lived - and still am. In fact I'm much better. See below: April 17, 2014 - Weight 298 lbs. (45.6 …

Well today is casual day at work (only have one a month) and I had a very special NSV this morning indeed. I really haven't tried on any of my jeans, just feeling I would just have to get used to not ever beable to wear them. I do wear liquid knit pants and have gone down in sizes in them and they feel good that I am down 2 to 3 sizes in them. So I decided I would try on my jeans in the larger size 20's, but something told me to take out the 18's as well. So instead of trying the 20's on at first I tried the 18's and low and behold they fit and not even too tightly!!! I am losing slowly...and don't see a lot of it-in the mirror...but this helped me realize that it is comi…

I am two weeks before a surgery and scared to death about my quality of life after a surgery. Sleevers with some experience, please share your experience: All my questions are about the steady-state phase, not the first few weeks: 1) when you eat and get full, is it the same feelling as today, just without the big food quantities? Or is it a different feeling? 2) are you handicapped for life? Like the need to avoid certain foods and certain drinks. 3) can u ever drink a whole cup of Water, or will you need to sip slowly for life (sounds lile a torture). 4) just tell me about ur day to day life. I dont know if u had the same feeling, but I sometimes think to myse…

I am new to Bariatric Pal But have been doing a lot of writing about my weight loss journey on my own web site I am working on. I am writing it in memory of my mother who also suffered with morbid obesity and the health issues that go along with it. I hope to offer others who have had any weight loss surgery or those considering it ....Information and Inspiration! I very much need others to share their weight loss story as well. On the before and after page of my site . I had laparoscopic RNY gastric bypass over 3 years ago and quickly lost all the weight I needed to loose. So far I have had no real problems and am living a much happier, healthier life. I am so glad I f…

I am getting excited about my progress thus far but a new thrill is on its way. I am accepting the beachbody challenge. ..T25 will be here any day now and I'm going to nail it, dig deeper and all that. Here is a horrifying visual of where I started to where I've gotten so far.

Friday is my weigh day, yesterday was my four months since surgery. Last week was the first time the scale did not move but I knew the problem so I got back on the Airdyne and this mornings wt loss was 5 lbs! That totals me a 70 lb loss (51 inches) in four months and only one lb from "onderland". I feel wonderful!!!
-
So for those, say either 4 months out or about 50 lbs. down – I have a suggestion: think of the things you are going to do today or did this morning that you would not have been able to do, or do without discomfort, etc. – and share them!!!! Let’s give our brave new pre and post sleeve brethren some NSV’s to look forward to! <3

Well...it has been 9 months and 93 pounds gone from my 5'4" frame. I have been holding steady at my current weight for about 2 months. I am NOT done losing my weight and I am NOT on a plateau and I am NOT at a stall....I AM PLAIN OLD HAPPY. I am not a prisoner to that darn scale. I am eating and enjoying life and happy and feeling very blessed by the success I have had. It has not been magical or any kind of miracle. It has been work and I am happy to say that I can finally look in the mirror and like what I see in the reflection. Yes,I am still a work in progress and would like to lose the last 48 to goal and I would like to have some stuff "fixed" after all is sa…

There was a time I would think to myself, women who wear heels all day at work, to the mall (of all places), had serious confidence issues to bare such agony. 7 months ago, I could wear heels for 1 hour max and I would have to change into flats, 70 lbs lighter and I now see the light. This has been one of the ultimate NSV's for me. I can wear my heels all day run up & down stairs & not break a sweat. I LOVE MY SLEEVE!!!!!!!!! Thank you GOD for allowing me this 2nd chance!

I just woke up in the middle of the night and ran downstairs for a Water. As I was walking back up, I noticed I felt pretty good so I walked straight to my closet to try clothes on. (Because that's what people do at 3:30am right? ) I went right to the forbidden pile. .. clothes I haven't worn in years. (Why I've let them take up space in my closet is beyond me.. but tonight no complaints! ) I tried on the first pair of size 14 capris and they fit! I was excited but knew they were probably one of the bigger size 14s. Then I tried on the next pair and the next, and EVERY size 14 in my closet fit. Woo hoo! Then of course my "crazy brain" took over and I tried on a si…

Me and Miss Pearlie have become such a good team. It took us some time, but we finally know each other very well and have a wonderful relationship with each other. I treat her right and she keeps me in check, so I guess you could call her my BFF now. Our friendship started off kind of rocky, I mean the day after I got her I really wondered what the hell I was thinking and wishing I could rip her out of my body on my own! It was torture. She was all up in there squeezing things that hadn't been squeezed before, making me hate the sight, smell and thought of food, she didn't want me to sleep, half the time I didn't want to drink either. I hated her @$$ and wished we'…

About me: My name is Misty. I'm 26 years young. No children. I've been a nurse for 5 years (currently working ER- love). I've been overweight ever since I can remember (I was def the largest in my 1st grade class). After high school & out of sports, my weight ballooned out of control. But (like many addicts) I was in denial. (Side note: no, I don't believe every obese person is an addict). After realizing how much my obesity was affecting my health, my job, and daily activities, I decided I needed a change. After MANY failed diet attempts, I had my sleeve with Dr. Borland in New Iberia, LA (self-pay). food no longer controls my life. I don't live to eat. I'm fit and …

I had Hiatal Hernia repair and lap band replacement in April and have been experincing horrible shoulder pain in the left shoulder since surgery. I am currently in therapy for what the doctors are calling a neck issue. But I want to give the whole story and find out if anyone else has ever had this happen. When I had surgery the IV had to be placed in the bend of my arm on the left side. My hand swelled and ached and the next morning after surgery I was begging them to take it out. When I got home from hospital my arm and shoulder ached and I called the doctor several times because it hurt so bad. Since surgery it has ached on and off but in the last 3 weeks it has …

I always weigh myself once a week not that I'm being obsessive about my weight loss journey but I feel it is important as you get to and pass your goal that you stay in focus with your progress. I never thought I would lose almost 200 pounds. Starting at 387 and now weighing 200 is in my opinion a miracle. I am forever thankful to my wife and healthcare professionals for their support in my weight loss success. I wonder just how far this weight loss journey will continue. But I am super glad I lost it and feel so well. Mark, Edmond Oklahoma

I was sleeved 6 months ago today and I couldn't be happier. Quick stats... HW = 238, CW = 154 Hit surgeon's goal weight 3 weeks ago and I'm 4 pounds from my personal goal. went from a size 22 jeans to size 10 (I would have been happy in size 12) Tops XL/XXL to M I'm going to go ahead and say it, I'm kind of starting to think this was the "easy way out" after all. Sure, the preop and postop diet stuff wasn't super fun but it was all so temporary. And then there was acid and nausea and diarrhea and constipation and stalls, but seriously, those things are minor compared to all the good stuff. I never thought I could look and feel this fabulous at 45. And the chang…

Hey there, guys and gals! How is everyone this lovely night? Today I am 3 and a half months post vsg and I am down...75 pounds! Starting weight was 220 and my current weight is 145. My first bigger goal was 150 pounds. My ending goal is between 120 and 130 pounds (I am 5'2"). So, I have 15 pounds left to lose until I reach 130 pounds and I will just see how I look and feel from there. I am ecstatic with the weight loss results so far!!! I do want to warn you guys (a little late now I am sure) that there are skin pictures involved LOL! I have a sports bra and pants on. I only put a few on here. I have more on my profile page, and I also, just last night, uploa…

Hey all! My sleeve was Monday June 16th... Highest weight 290 Surgery day weight 263 Current weight 251 So far no complaints! On full liquids and jazzed on how fast it's coming off, trying to mentally prepare for a plateau... When did some of you hit that first plateau? Also how much did you all lose the first month? I just want to see if I'll be a "slow" loser or "fast" loser....

The last 3 1/2 months have been very inspiring. I have completely changed my eating and drinking habits. Where I used to crave fast food non stop, now I think about what to put in my next salad. I can;t wait to hit 75 pounds gone, then 100 pounds gone!!!!!!!

Today, my family went to a theme park, and I decided to give it a try and see if I could fit into one of the rides since I have lost 75+ lbs. While I was in line, there were multiple people that tried to ride only to be forced off the ride when the safety harness wouldn't come down far enough on them. I was extremely nervous that the same thing would happen to me. But, when it was my turn to board the ride, I fit!!!!! Such a great NSV for me!!!!

I went to my class reunion this past Saturday. Saw friends of mine from as early as Kindergarten. Many of these friends I see periodically, others I haven't seen for years. One friend of mine, who is a nutritionist, comes up to me with all kinds of compliments on my weight loss. "Please tell me how you did it, " she asked. So, I start off with what I tell almost everybody that asks.... My husband and I joined a gym a year ago, and we work out six days a week. She didn't accept that, and asked all about the food (Of course she did, she IS a nutritionist). I told her that I eat smaller amounts and cut out eating a lot of the carbs I used to live on. "Oh," she says,…

Hello, all. I am not at my goal yet, but I wanted to post this here on the success stories forum. After my last fill, a few weeks ago, weight finally started coming off again. I'd been at a plateau (up and down the same 5-7 lbs for 3 1/2 years) after losing the first 50 or so lbs pretty quick. Now, I'm happy to say that I am in a new weight level on the scale. When I saw that '4' pop up, I was soooooo happy. Haven't seen that in 19 years!! So that, is my success I am sharing. I am 34lbs from my goal!!!!!! So close! I'm doing it!!!!

I haven't been on here for awhile...a million excuses about life getting in the way, but today I sat down with my surgeon for the first time in 6 months. (He'd been deployed to Kosovo and just returned) and we had a heart to heart about the last year. And HE called me a success story. And I love that I can agree with him. I've succeeded in doing SO MANY THINGS I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD EVER DO. In the past year I've lost a total of 75 pounds. I went from a size 24 to a size 12/14. I went from heaving breaths to running 5ks. My BP went from 160/110 to 104/67 (taken today!) I was an insulin dependant type 2 diabetic with high cholesterol. Both of those thi…

Eight days out from surgery and doing good. I had a little detour over the weekend with a trip to the hospital for pneumonia but that's better and I'm home on full liquids now -- moving on. So, tonight I get home from the support group meeting where we talked about food triggers and there's a package from my company. We just merged with a big company and they sent us appreciation gifts for making it through the integration, blah, blah, blah. So, I open the box and there's a really nice insulated Water cup there. Nice -- I can Protein drinks or just water in that. There was also another box dressed up with a big blue bow. I slipped off the bow and opened the box an…

I'm so happy to have my lap band! I have lost a total of 87 pounds so far! I want to lose 43 more to get to my goal of 165. But, really, even if I never lost another pound, it was worth it. I feel great. I think that my large weight loss is not the usual for most people and if you have lost less, don't compare yourself. Everyone has to use their band their own way. I have been very lucky and have had a lot of things in my favor that have helped me along the way. When I first knew I was going to get a lap band, I did not intend to be as focused on weight loss as I ended up being. I had decided I was going to stop eating fast food junk, I would watch my portions, a…

I decided I would do the sleeve. I have been losing and gaining the same 40-50 lbs since 2000 and I am tired of it. Now that I made my decision some of my friends and family have expressed to me that I should just continue to try it on my own because of the risks involved. Is anyone feeling like this????

A little background. I live in NYC and take mass transit everywhere as I don't own a car. So..some of my NSVs surround train and bus seats. Today, it was the metal benches at some of the stops on the PATH trains that run between NY and NJ. I used to sit on the bench and put my workbag down on the seat next to me rather than on the floor. I'd move it of course if someone wanted to sit. Well now I realize I can fit both myself and my bag in the same space. I don't have to worry about moving it if someone wants the seat. I know it's a silly kind of NSV but it's one none the less and it's nice to be reminded even if the scale is pretty stable, that you can still have these…

I decided last night to start my list of clothing to take on my cruise next month and when I was done, it was pretty long. I looked at it again but thought I would use most everything on it and didn't know what to remove. So I decided to see what would fit and what wouldn't in my suitcase. Well guess what? Everything fit. At first I couldn't figure out why because I recall clearly in years past that packing was often a challenge in terms of being able to fit everything and then it hit me... Everything fit because my clothes are so much smaller now. I've been aware of this on some level for a while now especially when I put my bathing suit into the spin dryer at th…

Woohoo! I was sleeved on August 26, 2013. As of this morning I am down to 182 from 289. I only have 22 more lbs to lose until I hit my personal goal of 160 which will put me in a "HEALTHY" bmi. I am 5'8". I was in a tight womens size 24 or 3X. I am now a size 8 or 10 and a size large or XL top. I am so glad I've documented everything along this journey. Here are a few pics that I'd like to share.

Well, just back from a holiday on the beautiful island of Majorca. For the first time since 1990, I wore a swimsuit - IN PUBLIC! No-one stared or made any rude comments but I got a few admiring glances from guys. I swam in the sea and loved it, didn't feel self-conscious at all. I went out in the evening in short dresses with no sleeves and felt like a super model (I know that's stretching it a bit at 52 and being a little shortie but you get the idea!). I even walked along the seafront in a swimsuit and a sarong. And I felt fabulous... Don't think I have had a holiday like it ever before in my life. I just enjoyed what I was doing, wasn't hot or sweaty or worrying ab…

I just celebrated my one year anniversary! I have lost 106lbs, which was 77% excess weight lost. I have to admit that I am still feeling lost, and fat(does that ever go away?) I feel like I sabotage myself. My weight has been EXACTLY the same since February, and it is super frustrating. I weigh 166lbs and can't seem to lose anything else. On a positive note, I just got approved for skin removal on my stomach, yay!

So today I had the pleasure of having my hubby's company on my run(I run when he's at work usually) Both kids are at school so we had a nice time joking just being fun! Well we got home and he took this funny picture of me and I said hmmm "I want to put this on FB but look at my fat stomach!" Well after 10 seconds of soul searching I realized "screw that, to others it may look like fat/flab, but to me it's the loose skin I have to show for all my hard work, I'm gonna post that dang picture and not care what others think!" HUGE VICTORY for this over critical self doubter(which is actually why I bought the shirt, the caption aimed at my own self deprecating self! Today I…
