I'm looking at everyone's before and after pics and how great everyone looks. I'm scared I'm never gonna get there. Is it possible that you won't lose weight after surgery? I'm 12 days post op and in a stall... At least I hope it's a stall.

  3. Hello everyone, I just wanted to share some good news. I had lots of bloodwork done for my 3-month post-op and I reviewed the results with my PCP this morning: I'm diabetic, and my A1C at the end of January was 12.2%. One month post-op I was 9.6%. Now I'm at 6.4% and that's with being able to cut my medications by over 65%. My doctor thinks I'll be cured by the end of the year. I'm skeptical, but am very hopeful. My triglycerides dropped by 50% and are pts away from being normal. Much to my surprise, my total cholesterol didn't budge. My doctor says my body is still trying to figure things out, and to give it more time. In January, my liver and kidney enzymes …

University of Missouri - where I had my surgery done- called me today to ask if they could interview me!! They want to do a spotlight on the bariatric section of MU Hospital and my surgeon told them to call me because I am a success story!! Me!!! A success story!! And I'm not even at my goal weight! So I'm going to do an interview on June 12th, then they are going to take some footage of me running etc. The Bariatric center wants to do a new commercial and they are going to use some of the footage in the commercial! I'm so excited!! It is just so surreal that I am success story!! I just never thought I would be here. I know I have putting in the work but to be consider…

6 weeks post-op and down over 30lbs which I was a little bummed about since I thought I would have lost more weight.... but then I tried on my "skinny" jeans and they were loose! I have to keep reminding myself that not all weight is fat. Being more acive means there's new muscles developing too. Throwing those jeans into the Plato's Closet pile of clothing made me do a happy dance!

I hit the weight goal my doctor suggested back in March. So at this point, I just weigh myself on the first day of each month. It's part of my transition to maintenance. No more myfitnesspal and no more weighing daily or weekly. I'm really trying to do this without the crutches of tracking everything I eat or every ounce I gain/lose. I looked down at the scale and saw it said 139.6 and was dumbfounded. I haven't been in the 130's since I was a very young woman. Even when I dropped alot of weight in the early 90's, I never got below 150 lbs. I felt like I was walking on air today just running around doing my errands, going to the Y, just regular stuff. I swear…

So my two college daughters are home from school, and our family just returned from a two week vacation. I've been doing laundry for three days straight and still going. Today I was carrying two stacked baskets down two flights of stairs. Huffing and puffing and having trouble seeing in front of me. It dawned on me to weigh the baskets. The two baskets together (27.2 lbs) weighed less than half of what I've lost so far (55). That means I'd have to carry four stacked baskets to equal the body weight I carried around only four months ago. This was a real eye opener for me and made me even more grateful for the loss I've had so far. No wonder I feel so m…

I'm a little over a week before surgery and thought it would be great to hear from some June 2013 vets to encourage those of us with June 2014 dates. What does it feel like a year out? How happy are you and what have been your biggest successes? What words of wisdom could you share for those of us who are where you were 1 year ago?

  13. Hi everyone, my name is Jen. Just curious as to how many post op folks used the Abdominal Binder after WLS? Also, I'm going from the band to Gastric Bypass. How many of you had the same revision in one surgery and do you believe your recovery was longer/more painful? I'm a single mom of a 15 year old boy. After my 2 night stay in the hospital, I'm on my own at home. Is this doable?

Ive been having mini-NSV's for a while but I've been feeling a lot of self doubt too - like I'll never be truly successful, never reach goal. I started at 325 last summer, lost 28 preop, and have lost a total of 65 since surgery on March 13. I'm right at 260. Its been work. I feel like a slow loser. But I'm really, (finally) seeing results, especially in my clothes. I worse a pair of jeans I hadn't worn since 2008. I bought a pair of W22 khaki pants a few weeks ago that are now too big to wear. I can easily wear a size 18 bathing suit. But, Tonight, I think I had my first true, jump up and down moment. And it was over something relatively simple. A lab coat of …

This is for all the lap band veterans. I've been banded for a few years now and I am starting to gain some weight back. I need to get in control before I gain all my weight back. What is the best way to start losing again? Should I do Protein shakes only for a few days or totally cut out the carbs? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Lisa

I had two great nsvs today. First I went and bought my season pass for Elitch Gardens in Denver. I no longer have to worry if I can fit on the roller coaster. Second was feeling so good I decided to check out the gay bars on Capital Hill trying to find some old friends as the one I use to frequent back in the day is now a 7-11. Well didn't find anyone I knew but I am sure this cute young lesbian was checking me out. That is a first for me.

Well I have hit my 1 year anniversary and feel today is bittersweet. I have 30 lbs to go before I am to my weight goal (so not a happy day) but I can fit the wardrobe I bought a year ago when I started this journey (so I am happy about this achievement!) I have been stalled at 156 for the past month (not surprised) and will continue to work at getting the last 30 lbs off. I looked at pictures from a year ago and then look in the mirror. I see the difference in my figure but my mind still says I am overweight. I want to get upper arm surgery but know I need to wait until I am to my goal before I start the process of getting the extra skin removed. So this next ye…

I knew in my heart this was the right thing to do for my health and today I received concrete evidence. My diabetes is normal. I was on 5 medicines including insulin before surgery. My liver enzymes are normal. I did have fatty liver evidence. My other blood tests were normal except for my cholesterol which I will accept. I am just thrilled and it is just the beginning for me! My surgery was 3/3 and I am seeing results. I can now say I am healthy and it feels great! Thank you RNY and thank you to God for this opportunity!

  23. Just came back from my surgeon's office. He and his partners are doing a trial on a new outpatient, incision less procedure on people who only need to lose 20 to 50 pounds. As a matter of fact, the patients BMI must be between 30 and 40. This procedure is done through the mouth. Endoscope and surgical tools are used to pinch off sections of the stomach, primarily the fundus area, and then sutured to make the stomach smaller. The size of the cavity is reduced by about 20%. This procedure is only being done in New Orleans, and there are no long term studies yet, since it is just being done now in clinical trials. VERY INTERESTING !!!!!

I have set a goal of 210lbs for myself. Everyone says that my first goal will change. Its crazy how all I do is walk/jog 3 miles a day and fight to eat 1200 calories and the weight just falls off. Starting where old clothes again, but soon I will have spend some cash everything I own is getting to big. Well back to work I go just thought I'd share my morning.

...if the size 8 slacks I ordered fit. Well...was bawling like a baby when I tried them on. They're a little tight right now, but they fit and in a few weeks, they'll be very comfortable. Even if I lose as little as five lbs., I know they'll fit OK because I realize now that small losses at this point means going down a whole size. It took about 35 or so lbs. for me to go from the 26/28 size I started at to 22/24 and I didn't actually buy new till I got to a 20. Last August I bought 16's for the first time in years and was thrilled. FF a little less than a year and now I'm staring down a size 8. I can't believe it. I today is my 5 months post op date. My life has changed dramatically. I began this journey at 267 pounds (day of surgery) and today I am 194. I began at a size 20 today I am a size 12/14. There are so many things I can do today I could not do 5 months ago. I don't even know where to begin. My diet consist of mainly nuts, smoothies, homemade juice, and veggies. I do not get as much Protein and Water as I should and have not exercised. I have not lost any hair which I attribute to juicing. I am not a textbook WLS case but I am making my sleeve work for me.

Let me just start by saying, I've been banded 11+ months. I don't keep or have any desire for my band to be really tight and my surgeon is leaving how tight up to me. I like that. I just wanted to share my story. I have a very addictive personality. A type AAA lets say. Everything I do, I do full steam ahead. Eating, drinking, you name it. I experienced the alcohol thing when I was younger and did it much to excess. Coming from a home with an alcoholic father, this scared me and I eventually with some help was able to leave this behind. Then the devil on my shoulder became smoking. That was a really hard one to kick, but eventually, I did that too, this time o…

When I was in High School I loved to run. And I ran every night after work until I got pregnant with my 12 year old. While I was pregnant I had horrible morning sickness that didn't go away until after I delivered him, but the morning sickness always hit worse at night so I stopped running. Yada Yada Yada I never got back into running and got fatter and fatter. Tonight I decided I was going to try to run around the block and I did it. It took me 15 minutes and I'm sure most runners would have said I was jogging but to me it was a run. I came home and laid on the floor panting like a dog for 10 minutes but I did it, and wanted to share!

  49. Hello everyone. One year ago today I started my 3 week liquid diet to prepare for my lap band surgery. It was both one of the most exciting and scariest days of my life. At that time I weighed 360 pounds, had severe sleep apnea and just felt lousy in general. I was unmotivated and my world revolved around my lazy boy chair and my office chair. I was in a major rut in my career, and if I was to be really truthful only had a few more years left to live. Twelve years previously I had lost almost 130 pounds and gained it back with in four years so I knew how difficult the change would be.
