When I finally made the decision to make the big leap on this journey, I knew my choices had ramifications that rippled like Water from pebbles tossed into a pond, reaching far into every aspect of my life from my relationship with food, to my relationship with people, with society, with vocational pursuits, with finances, and everything few and far between. Personal Reinvention requires not a full, working understanding of such things before engaging the processes, but it does require a willingness to both trust the process and a determination to never look back. Having had to come up with the cash to engage this process, I had a tangible connection to the power and …

Hi everyone. I'm new to bariatric pal and thought it would be a good idea to share my journey with others who've either been where I am, or considering... My RNY surgery is set for this coming Tuesday. I'm not nervous or anxious or anything. Is that weird? I look forward to participating in the forums with everyone.

Hello All! I hope this post finds everyone doing well. Just a brief note to help those in their journey. I'm 5'3.75" I've always been a thicker girl and packed on the pounds a few years ago due to some antidepressants I was on. I had the sleeve and have done my best to follow all the rules and use the tool as an opportunity for an overall lifestyle change. I've lost approximately 90 pounds. But I still felt "FAT" at times. I love my new body but felt there were problem areas I could target to lose more weight. I did notice, however, my rib cage, hip bone and collar bone were starting to be quite pronounced. It has never been my goal to be "skinny". I just want to be heal…

Tomorrow is my three month sleeversary and I want to list the things I love about the sleeve: Controlling what I eat, instead of it controlling me Smaller clothes! Although this is ongoing and every changing Knowing my limit in terms of eating and feeling satisfied thanks to sleeve All glory to the sleeve LOL Also I want to know how many other sleevers had multiple attempts at changing their life through the corporate liars I call Weight Watchers. I have spent so much money and time with them and it was all for naught, please tell mesomeone else has had this experience.

I went to the gas station this morning and ran into my neighbor. I started talking to him and he was being very cautious and kinda stand offish. So I kept it short, thought maybe he was in a hurry. So as he was going out the door I invites to a Fourth of July party at our house. He looks at me all weird and goes "jess" and I said yes. He's like omg I didn't know it was you. I guess his wife mentioned to him that she thought Ryan (my husband) had a new girlfriend or had gotten remarried. They had no clue it was still me. I guess it's a great compliment but I wonder how many other people think my husband is remarried lol

I took another picture today. The fat one is the night before surgery, the blue shirt is at -51 lbs and today is -65 lbs.

My suregery date was MArch 20, 2014. About two weeks after surgery my mother in law had given me several outfits that were 1x in size. Day of surgery I was a 3x. In the last couple of days I have been able to comfortably fit into these 1x clothes and I almost cried. I did dance.

Climbed on the scales this morning and hit 202. That's down 185 pounds since I started my weight loss journey. I am amazed that I have this much weight. My bariatric nurse emailed me yesterday and wanted me to be on a panel for future bariatric patients to ask me questions about my success. I am so happy and feel so great. I wish everyone on the board to success in their journeys. Mark, Edmond Ok

Are the weirdest and best words to hear from a complete stranger! Today while shopping, I asked a sales woman for help finding one size, but she was convinced I would where a smaller size. "You're so tiny!" She said as she got out her measuring tape. This was also not an average sized woman either! She was a twig in her 20's. I was shocked and she was right. I needed a size smaller... I've had a lot of fabulous NSVs lately :-) which is nice bc I seem to be stalled...

Well today I Celebrate my 1 year anniversary and what a year it has been! After surgery in Mexico, I am 80lbs lighter with another 80 to go but I am feeling great! My life is so much more active and I can do so many things that had become a struggle before surgery. I feel like I get stronger every day and my confidence has returned. Exercise has become a part of my life that I actually enjoy. I wanted to post today because, I want to encourage anyone who is thinking of having this surgery to go ahead. My greatest regret is that I did not do it sooner! Wishing you well on your journey.

Hate shorts. No nix that. I love my new size 14 shorts. My legs have lost weight too and the fat hanging around my knees is looking so much better. And the don't cause muffin top. I'm actually fitting all of me in a 14. Here I was getting used to my 16s.

I got a size 14 shorts that I ordered in the mail yesterday and I tried them on to see how much more until they closed and they closed. First try I got them closed without laying down. I am so happy.

I am so freaking happy I saw my surgeon today for my one-month post-op visit. Down 26 lbs since surgery (51 since I started my journey), and I've been cleared to go back to yoga and whatever other exercise I want (as tolerated). I can't tell you how much I've missed yoga...it's been a regular part of my morning for the past 7 years, and not being able to do it for the past month has been probably the most difficult part of post-surgery life. My surgeon's happy with my progress, and seemed pretty happy that I asked about exercise. I also asked about my Camelback, since I know straws are a no-no, and I wanted to see if that meant the bite-valve that I use on there was a …

Life has gotten in the way the last 2 months. I was unable to take care of me the way I was supposed. Not exercising, not enough Protein all sorts of things. I gained 8lbs. Now 3 weeks ago I was sitting here crying feeling like a failure. I'm back on track in the last 3 weeks. walking 3 miles a day, getting my protein and Water. I have lost those 8lbs. I haven't had a fill in two months.I go for one tomorrow. There will be no great loss, but no gain and I realized I'm good with that. I can't beat myself up for no being able to take care of myself (I was the primary care giver for my MIL the last 3 months and she passed a month ago). I've lost 60lbs since surgery in Nove…

I never expected that my struggle in maintenance would be in staying at my goal weight and not going too far BELOW it! I was sure my body had bottomed out...obviously it has not because I realized I reached my goal more than a week ago but I've lost another 5 lbs. since then. I've already had an unfill of .5cc, (4.5cc's in a 10cc band) but it seems like my body adjusted to that and I'm still in the green - eating well and losing. I guess I'll let it ride a little while longer, I don't think I'll like the way I look if I lose more than another 5 lbs. I was never meant to be skinny and I never wanted to be skinny but I'm knocking on that door now. #unexpected

Hi all I am relatively new here and I've got quite a few questions! My story I've been heavy all my life and I've had diabetes and high blood pressure for over 5 years now so I decided bypass surgery was my only option since nothing else seemed to work. I'm 25 years old , pre-surgery weight 258 and I'm one week post op. I'm not extremely hungry but I have been having serious cravings for food that I generally never eat? Has anyone else had these cravings? I'm just so worried that ill eat things again that are not healthy craving hot dogs and burgers :-( idk but after having this surgery I am realizing the relationship that I have with food is so unhealthy... …

I have done so well. 3 months out, 53lbs lost. Exercising now, weight loss is slowing. My sweet tooth seems to have returned somewhat- HELP! I work and stay busy, is it boredom, I just want to taste it, I have even spit it out. The urge is hitting me everyday. All of a sudden I want gelato, a piece of chocolate or two, a cupcake. It must stop. I am scared and need to adjust my thinking. Tips, thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

So any of your successful sleevers recovering diet pepsi drinkers? I think it is the "you can't every have again" that is depressing pre-screened. I love the crisp taste of a cold diet pepsi. And through every diet (some successful losses, just never maintained), I was always glad that even if I was restricted to chicken breast I could enjoy a cold diet pepsi after work. I've gone off of before so I know I can... Is just. Well. You know.... Anyone know what I'm talking about? Were you anxious about it before sleeve but it's turned out to be no biggy?

http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2013/jan/28/marathon-runner-mark-noel/ Shortly after this story was published, I was contacted by NPR to participate in a round table discussion. During the course of the 45 minutes we were on the air, we discussed my journey and whether weight loss surgery was the answer for many people. I was on with the head of UCLA's Bariatric Surgery unit and discussed the VSG and other options for people with weight issues. As soon as the podcast is available, probably tomorrow, I'll post a link to it and you can down it. It was hard to come 'out of the closet' to tell everyone about my surgery. Even now there are comments that somehow I'm wea…

Wow!! What a wonderful NSV this morning. I got to a meeting late in one of the conference rooms and all the chairs near the door were taken. It meant going all the way around the table to the front to grab a seat. Before I lost the weight, it would have meant unbelievable embarrasement to me as all the folks already sitting down would have had to pull their chairs all the way in just so I could squeeze past them. I had to do it once or twice before and it was awful. It got to the point that I always made sure to get to those meetings early so I could grab a seat right by the door so I wouldn't have to squeeze past anyone getting in or out of the room. So like I said…

I am so excited this morning! 101 lbs down since surgery! This was the best decision of my life, Even when I was getting adjusted to my new tummy, I have not had any regrets. I know I could not have done this on my own.

My bariatric group hosted their first meet and greet, that was loaded with some great vendors giving out some nice goodies, and holding a few drawings for some cool stuff. Then they held an amazing fashion show using some of their patients that were willing to walk the catwalk in some beautiful outfits. They also provided some tasty Snacks, some healthy some not so healthy. (I will question that when I see him in the office next week). My mom, hubby, daughter, and daughter's best friend attended with me as my "support people" As the fashion show was coming to a close, I notice my surgeon standing in the back watching, and I slipped back to talk to him for a moment. I have…

Finally, it's happened to me........199 on the scale this morning. My surgery was seven months ago and I'm very happy to have broken through this barrier. I've been hovering at the gate for a little while now. So happy! I can't thank you all enough for the support and encouragement I've found here. Now on to 198, 197, etc. -- it's a pound at a time.

Besides the nice "wow, you look great, I barely recognized you" comments, I've had several people ask me if I've been sick and yesterday a third person asked if I had cancer. Really? I think thats just such a weird thing to go blurt out...I mean these are clients, not "friends". I have to reassure them that I'm fine, and they all tell me not to lose anymore weight, that I look great where I'm at. (Of course I do )Good thing I haven't had any hair loss or I'd really have the rumor mill churning.

I am SO happy right now! I've been really frustrated lately because my weight loss has slowed down SO much but the scale is finally starting to move again. I weighed this morning and I am officially down 100 lbs! Wow! I wasn't sure I'd ever manage to do that but the day is finally here! I have 28 lbs to lose to reach my goal now.

I'm so thankful to have been sleeved and to have lost so much weight so quickly. It's been a lot of work but well worth the effort and risk associated with the surgery. My health problems (all the standard ones) are all fixed and I feel great. As I approach my goal weight, my wife, daughter and several people at work keep telling me I should stop losing now, but I'd still like to reduce my love handles. I established my goal weight based on weight lost 22 years ago and the level that I thought was good back then. However, I look different this time (at age 54) and a few tell me I look frail. Given my workout schedule, which includes strength training 3 times/week, I…

So, I've officially been banded 4 weeks! I'm down 32 pounds and feeling great. I'm eating smaller portions, Protein first, then veggies, never room for starches. Lifting weights 4-5x a week, cardio 2-3x a week. I can't stress how happy I am about the decision I made. Not only with wls in general, but deciding on the band. I have my first fill next wednesday, and I'm hoping if I can get close to my morning band, where I'm tight, but can still eat solid foods, I'd be in my green zone. I have trouble staying full for over an hour or two after lunch and dinner, but Breakfast keeps me full for 3-4 hours. I got a little caught up in some emotions and my 3 week s…

Ok so I didn't know what an nsv was until I read all of the threads. I was banded April 15 and have had a few nsv both before banding and after. My capris from last summer don't fit at all. I feel more inclined the wear dresses now and feel I look much better in them. I had a co worker that sees me daily say how wonderful I looked and it made me glow. My anxiety how lowered tremendously since the banding and losing weight. I'm a happy girl!!

I had my surgery on Tuesday. I'm on the clear liquid diet. I have been able to drink 64 ounces of water, sugar free Popsicles, jell-o, and water with bouillon cubes. I feel hungry and I can drink 8 ounces of soup at a time. I'm stopping at the recommended 4 ounces but I'm struggling. I though my hunger would be under control. I'm hoping when I move to full liquids and can have protein shakes this will get better. Does any one have any similar experience?

'Morning y'all! This is my first post in the "SUCCESS STORIES" section and that alone feels like a NSV, even though this is a weight-related post. I am 13 days out from my surgery and have lost a total of about 9 lbs during that time. It's not 24 lbs or even 15, but it's NINE POUNDS IN 13 DAYS, I'll take it! My big moment this morning was when I realized that including my pre-op weight loss, I've lost 40 lbs!! Woo hoo!! I'm 40 lbs down from the heaviest weight of my life, 291. Never going back again!

Hello there. I am 7 days on now and things are starting to get back to normal - really normal. I never expected much fuss because very few people know what I have done, and also this was my choice and I have not been rushed for surgery as an emergency or whatever.(Still definately life saving though)! I must say those who do know are 100% with me and more supportive than I could have hoped for. My husband is helping as much as poss, but he is severely disabled with MS and post cancer and I am his carer. So out of hospital and business as normal. Anywho - we have a small business and we are all friends aswell. I told one of the directors because I thought he should know …

I wanted good health, and feeling fit....... I had one heart attack, Coranary Artery Disease, resulting in cardiac surgery, I was a diabetic taking 60units of lantus every night and oral meds throughout the day, plus I was taking meds for cholesterol, triglycerides, high BP, and things I cannot even remember. I smoked 1-1/2 packs cigarettes per day since 1970......I could not walk up 5 stairs without getting out of breath....and would break out in sweats for no reason....along with my family's history, loosing both my brother and sister at an early age who had the same lifestyle, I too was at death's door...PCP words, not mine. I was told time after time by my PCP, Ca…

I had my first appt with my surgeon today. I was expecting him to say Gastric Bypass for me as I am 50 and have to lose 100 pounds. I do not have any other health concerns excepts my knees, arthritis and oh yes I am obese. I have been concerned with the malapsorption of the gastric bypass but also the sleeve with gerd. I am having an EGD to rule out Hiatal Hernia and from there the surgeon will give me his recommendation on surgery. QUESTION: If you have had sleeve and you had to do all over again verses the Gastric bypass would you?
