Okay I'm less than 2 weeks away from my gastric sleeve surgery. My current weight is 374lbs. My goal is 190lbs. Please give me all your tips on how to lose the max amount of weight. The do list and the don't list. Anything that might be helpful. Also if any of you have lost 150 plus pounds I would love to hear your story. I often see people who had a lot less to lose than I do so I would love to see people who had great success that started out my size. Thank y'all!!!

Happy and grateful to be in onederland this morning. It's been a long hard fight to reach this milestone.

I can't quite believe that one year ago today, I was waiting to go into hospital for surgery... I had lost 16lbs pre-op, but still had over 70lbs to go at only 5'2". I had type 2 diabetes, was taking a serious combination of chemo and injections to control my arthritis and I was being urged to take medication for my high blood pressure. On the outside, I was professionally successful and didn't appear to care about my weight and its effects. Inside? Oh I cared. I was lethargic, miserable and probably depressed. I could barely go up a flight of stairs, wouldn't/couldn't walk any distance and my eating was out of control, although I would never have admitted it. I hate…

It dawned on me this morning, how I'm now sort of close to my WEDDING DAY WEIGHT. (and yes, I know probably every single one of you remembers your weight at a specific time or event in your life.......LOL). I've been married going on 26 years, and I weighed at my highest, one hundred and thirty-seven pounds more than I did on my wedding day. That means, I averaged gaining about FIVE POUNDS A YEAR. Doesn't seem like that much, I mean, it's only five pounds......... We all read post after post about "I'm not losing fast enough." How many times have I researched weight loss and talked to doctors and nurses who tell us that a good month's weight loss is about 1 - 2 pou…

Someone suggested to me that I consider a one last blow out before the surgery, since I won't "get to" drink, or have pizza, or have..... I then made an attempt to lovingly educate them as to what is really going on. What happens at a funeral? Do you party with the person and then help them into the casket, followed by "so long, and thanks for all the fish" as you wave goodby? No. A "funeral" is for those who have already passed. The idea of a food funeral is absurd. As such, the last "hoo ha" might better be served to involve healthy food and conversation, which solidifies to friends and loved ones that they are with you NOW and HERE, pre and post op, in full su…

I have always been camera shy for many reasons, mostly due to my weight. This little collage shows me 8 days prior to surgery, the second is 1 month post op and the last is this my 5 month post op picture (this week) . I can't believe the changes in myself in only 5 months. The old me would NEVER post pictures of myself. While I haven't lost any pounds in the last 2 weeks , I have dropped another pant size, going from 20 down to 12 so far. I love my sleeve, it's been life changing for me.

I was sleeved June 18, 2012, my pre op weight was 334.9 and my current weight is 199, that's 135.9 lbs lost! My daughter watched me lose and got so depressed that I was truly worried about her, her insurance would not pay for the surgery, she fought them for a year and finally last November she was sleeved, her insurance does not pay for any weight loss surgery so after a year long fight a with help from our great family Dr, her insurance is using her case as a guinea pig to see if it will be worth paying for this surgery for others! She is doing great, she's down 70 lbs! Here are our before and after photos (she's not done) Before After

Ok.. When I first saw a dr put on my med chart " obese stomach" ..I was in shock. This was about 12 years ago. This comment stayed stuck I'm my mind for years to come at the meantime getting larger year to year. Of course..I would lose tons of weight between that time I saw this term and prior to sleeve surgery. For some reason that word "obese" pierced my heart. I had to talk through myself that it is only a word that the med profession uses for excess weight. But what I was really doing to myself ..I was in denial about my excess weight.. Only when I saw pics of myself ..I looked "obese". When I started having high blood pressure, high cholesterol ..it was a …

I didn't tell my coworkers I had WLS. I've had comments that I look good, that they've noticed I lost weight or that classic Southern comment "You look well rested." My favorite was today: Somebody just told me to be careful because I'm loosing weight too fast! I assured him I am working with a nutritionist.

Oh what an eye opening NSV just now. I'm here in my office today and the place is like a freezer. Cold as all get out. I have a long sleeve blouse on but I'm just frozen to the bone. My very slender colleague comes into my office to chat and I tell him how cold I am and he offers me his fleece jacket that the company gave out a couple of years ago. I got one of these fleeces also but quickly gave it to my son because even the extra large didn't fit. So when Claude offers me his fleece, I take him up on it hoping it isn't too small because I still think I'm fat damn it! Well...I'm sitting here typing and warm as can be....and zipped up to the neck. Not only does t…

I am a veterinarian and I actually do surgery myself just on my animal patients. I'm really concerned with how soon ill be able to go back to work. Any ideas on when everyone went back and how much activity you were able to handle?? All advice is appreciated.

I wanted to share a NSV! I have been going to my chiropractor for about 6 years, however, I haven't been there since a week before my sleeve surgery (Surgery was Dec 11th 2013)... Anyway... When the Dr came out of her office to greet me (I was the only one there) she looked at me, then looked around, then looked at me & said to me "I'm sorry I was looking for someone else.." I gave her a big Smile & said "how are you?" she looked back at me & said "OMGoodness - I was looking for you, but you weren't the "YOU" a was looking for... WOW you look amazing, I didn't even recognize you - You look so happy!!" Such a great feeling!!!!

All of us love to post after or during pics, and I'm no exception. Today however, I'm also posting my before pics in all their "Glory" and let me tell you, it's not easy to post these. I used to wonder why vets hated posting their before pics. Surely it was a sign of how far they'd come? Now I understand why we hate posting them. Because we show ourselves and the world how far it had gone, how far out of control it was, and how much work we had ahead of us. Feeling emotional today as I share these with you but forcing myself to be honest with myself. I hope someone who is unsure will look at these and realize it will all be worth it. That stupid liquid diet, the post-…

For the first time since I was a young girl, I was able to put a swim suit on and not shed a tear about finding one that fit decent. Went to the beach and felt confident in what I was wearing. I still have the belly with the extra skin and I still have full thighs, but I am VERY, VERY, V E R Y happy with my results.

So last night I think I woke up from a brain stall. Brain Stall: A period of time where your brain stops registering your weightloss The last few weeks I have felt like a fatty fatty two by four. I know part of the reason was I had only been losing 2lbs a week and then one pound. I was starting to feel those old helpless feelings again, the ones that plauged me in every diet I have ever attempted. I almost started to believe this was it. As of last friday, May 2nd, I had lost 56 lbs and I was 208, a weight I havent seen in 4 years. I couldn't see it. I could barely see any of my success thus far. It was disheartening, Then last night I saw a reflextion of my self th…

I am new to this site and already love it. I work at an Urgent Care and was approached by a young woman who had this procedure done with amazing results. She told me her skin was very elastic and stretched back for the most part. I was wondering if any of you would like to comment on your situations with any excess skin you may have after surgery. Or any complcations for that matter!

I'm 7 weeks post-op and have lost 50 pounds since starting my pre-op liquid diet. Saw my primary care physician yesterday and he cut my blood pressure medicine in half. Woohoo! Also; saw my diabetes doctor last week and he took me off all of diabetes meds and said that I no longer have diabetes. Woohoo again! Thank you sleeve.

I'm so proud of myself! I hit two milestones this morning. I was Sleeved on 3/04/14. My starting weight was 299, my starting BMI was over 50. Today, 9 weeks later, I hit the half-way point to my goal and my BMI is now just under 40. (Down 64.5lbs, and BMI down over 10.) Good job me!

I Would like to take a moment and thank my lap band! Yes! Thank you lap band for giving me the power to figure out how to do what I couldn't do alone! The power to chew food slowly, take small bites and for the first time in my life.. Learn to listen to my body! Thank you for helping move towards a diet full of protein and produce! Whole foods that fill me up and are good for me! Thank you for helping give up soda and tea... Things I miss but feel better for not drinking! Thank you for teaching me patience because Bandster hell was awful!!!!! Thank you for making me realize how I abused my body with food! Most of all Thank you for letting me find myself... So I ca…

I've hit every goal he's given me. I listen to all his advice. But now I won't see him until next year, which kinda makes me nervous. He asked me if I wanted to go any lower... Well... Yeah! lol My weight today: 129.3 lbs. My surgeon's goal for next year: 115 lbs. that might be a little low for me as I enjoy weights, but we will see. Topics of discussion today: hair, BMs, Protein, and plastic surgery. Excited about the plastics talk! Here's some recent befores & nows:

I saw my surgeon today for the first time since my 2 week checkup. He was absolutely thrilled with my progress and the fact that I surpassed his first goal for me!! He said he recommends that his patients stay on the 2 Protein drinks a day as I would lose more weight that way. I told him I did not mind at all. I will get labs done at 3 mos and see him afterwards....Keeping my eye on the prize!!! Edited to say, We are leaving tomorrow morning for vacation. I guess it is time to pack!!!

I don't begin a lot of threads on here but had to share! I had a VSG on July 17th, 2012, with a starting weight of 321lbs. This weekend was my 18th wedding anniversay, I ran my first 5K (yes I said ran - no walking), and I met my goal weight of 175!!!!! I have lost 146 pounds and am SOOOOOOOO happy with myself and my future. For those of you who have not had the surgery, this is not an easy journey and it takes dedication as well as determination and planning! If you think this is the quick fix to your weight problems, you are wrong. This is a journey of learning to take accountability for what goes in your mouth, if you exercise or not, for your actions on a daily …

I am actually feeling hungry lately. Before I have just kept myself on a schedule. 3 small mini meals. 2 snacks and extra protein. Met with my dietician and she have me the go ahead anything is on the table to try. Of course stay away from carbs and soda. Do any of experience hunger the further along after post op? I haven't had this issue yet and sometimes I crave something sweet. What then heck is going on?

I am just over two weeks post op. Last night we went out to run some errands and stopped at the mall. Anyway, he and I go our separate ways for a while to do our own thing. I did some "window" shopping but didn't buy anything. (I'm reserving that shopping high for when I can actually try on clothes in a regular size and feel they look good enough on my new body to buy.) He goes off to buy some video series. When we meet back up he says he has already taken his stuff to the car. We walk out of the mall to the car and I open the door and am overcome by the smell of fresh Cinnabons! Are you kidding me??? I don't say a word. (I was thinking "what a jerk" but did…

I found after surgery I am not coming onto the site nor posting as much as I did before I had surgery. The deed is done and all I can do is live my life day by day. I have lost about 60 pounds since I started this process on February 12. My last uninhibited meal was a pizza from my favorite pizza place here in Chicago. We take our pizza very seriously in this town so giving that up has probably been my biggest challenge. Overall though I have not had many craving since I started. Every now and then, particularly when I am feeling down, I'll want to take on a Man vs food challenge and then I soon realize I couldn't even if I wanted to. This is for the best. The sleeve has …

So in sticking with my plan for the last three weeks, it was Friday morning and "weigh day". I was happy to see another 3 lb. loss to make 40 in 6 weeks. Then I took my measurements as I have done on weigh day and compared them with pre op measurements. I have lost 23 inches!!! I felt so good about me, that after hiding my body from my husband for about a year or so, I walked from the bedroom to the clothes hamper in the utility room stark naked twice!!! He just smiled and asked me if this was a parade or an invite!!! LOL

When I had my surgery, on March 11th, I weighed 271. I dropped to 231 in 4 weeks, then I hit a stall. I had been stuck at 231 until Tuesday of this week. Then I decided to up the time I spent at the gym. And Wednesday the scale said 230, I got excited and hit the gym again. Thursday morning it said 229, and Friday it was down to 228 and then this morning it went to 227. I am so excited to break through that stall, I'm getting ready to hit the gym again. My first goal (of many) is to be under 200 pounds before we go to VEGAS in July. My next goal is to be 165 before New Years, then I won't be obese anymore. If I can make that I will start working towards 140 whic…

Hi Everyone, I'm Vanessa and I am 24 years old and a year ago on April 15th, 2023 I had gastric bypass. This was a very big decision I made for myself. I started my journey weighing in at 270lbs. Today I am 164lbs. I have lost 106lbs. I am very pleased and excited about this. I havent weighed this much since middle school. Now that my one year is coming up I am scared about staying on this path. I've been noticing that I am able to eat more and some foods I shouldn't be eating. I am young and have plans for myself and my husband to start a family soon but scared about the weight I will gain and how it will affect me in the long run with the weight. I guess I will worry ab…

Hi Everyone! I had a consult with a surgeon who told me I'm better off with the sleeve due to its success, I'm so confused I have a BMI of 36 but have severe sleep apnea and I'm boarderline for blood pressure. I have changed doctors due it staff and insurance issues and I have another consult this month and meeting with another nutritionist. I'm reading the post here and see that there are a lot of success stories..... Interesting......

Hi everyone, sorry I have been away for so long. My weight loss is still progressing although it has slowed down. I have decided to do a mini-triathlon so I will let you know how that goes. Pants size is down from a 58 to a 40! So, I am very happy but I still have some more weight to get rid of. Here are my numbers. Sleeved: 12/26/12 @ *422 lbs* Now: 04/26/14 @ *237* So, as of this point I am down 185 lbs and have lost almost 44% of my body weight. Life is good and I am being much more active. Doing lots of walking (bought a FitBit). I hope everyone is doing great in their journey. GatorDave

So yesterday i went to one of my hairdressers that i haven't been to since about a month and a half before surgery. Immediately after i said hello, She was like OMG, You have lost alot of weight. then continues to say, you're about the size you were when i first started doing your hair about 5 years ago. SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!!!! What... did she say that? i'm all smiles over here. So i'm leaving work early today and won't return here on site for over a month. Many people here says daily or no less than every other day about how much weight i've lost, how good i look, or asking how much weight lost, etc. I'll be out of town on buisness for 2 weeks, go on vacation for a wee…

I was sleeved back in October. It wasn't the easiest recovery for me. I ended up with a bleed after surgery and was put back in the hospital for a couple nights but after that everything started to fall into place and the weight started falling off. I am now 78 pounds lighter and many of my comorbidities have been resolved. I feel great. I went from size 20 jeans to a size 6. My breasts shrunk and that was the biggest blessing. With the loss off of my breast fat I discovered a lump that I would not have felt 78 pounds heavier. This was 3 weeks ago. It has been a whirlwind of appointments and procedures since but long story short, I have breast cancer. I had surg…

So... This week made 9 months post op VSG-- LOVE my little sleeve (Mikey). Getting enough Protein but slacking a little on the Water intake (which I'm paying for this week w/ heart palpitations). I'm exercising most days a week, which I'm really enjoying. I've been getting random complements from strangers-- that's cool. And I love walking in heels all day long. Lol. I still don't (and won't) eat any breads, Pasta, rice, or potatoes. I've only lost 1 lb in the past month-- but as long as the scale is moving downward, I'm happy. Oh, and I ate crawfish for the first time since surgery-- yum. I managed to get through King Cake season w/o giving in & I'm finding…

Made it through my first two week long vacation better than I have in the past, but not quite as well as I would have liked. Did not exercise at a gym, which was available at my hotel, but walked and walked around NYC every day. No wonder I didn't see too many overweight New Yorkers...... they WALK everywhere! Wished I would have gotten to the gym everyday, for it does give me the added energy boost that I now crave. Skipped all of the stops my friends made at different bakeries, and didn't feel like I missed out on any of that, because I am SOOOOO OVER SUGAR! Ate at very odd times, but tried to make good Protein choices as often as possible. Carried Protein Bars i…
