POSE ( Primary Obesity Surgery Endoluminol)

Just came back from my surgeon's office. He and his partners are doing a trial on a new outpatient, incision less procedure on people who only need to lose 20 to 50 pounds. As a matter of fact, the patients BMI must be between 30 and 40. This procedure is done through the mouth. Endoscope and surgical tools are used to pinch off sections of the stomach, primarily the fundus area, and then sutured to make the stomach smaller. The size of the cavity is reduced by about 20%. This procedure is only being done in New Orleans, and there are no long term studies yet, since it is just being done now in clinical trials. VERY INTERESTING !!!!!

If I'm correct here and not please correct me I think this POSE is a reversible procedure much like the stomach plication. Area's are just being pinched in in and made smaller with sutures. Nothing is being permanently done to the tissue, cut or removed, so it should conceivably be reversible.

I'm so glad I got my band while it's still available!

Is this procedure performed instead of the lap band?

I don't think it's replacing the band. I think it's just another WLS option.... From my understanding.... It will be used on people with lower BMI's, with 25 to 70 pounds to lose. I could be wrong about what little I know, but I have two friends that will be looking into it!

That's quite interesting. I'm gonna google it.

I had plication and I certainly wouldn't have minded not having the incisions

I had Pose Procedure done 12/10/2012....in New Orleans....did not work for me. I weighed as of this week and I am 3 lbs. lighter than my pre surgery weight.
