Hello! I am looking for some helpful advise on maintaining good eating habits! I am just at the beginning stages and meet with the surgeon for the first time next week. I have started to really watch what I eat just trying to eat healthier and drink more water! I am 21 and I know that I need to create these life long habits now if I want to keep the weight off. Do you have any advice on the best way to still satisfy the cravings or hunger but eat better? Also, after surgery, can you enjoy a small bite of ice cream at a birth day party or mashed potatoes, in moderation?

This last Friday, March 17,2017, marked two years since my Gastric Bypass Surgery. I'm posting this mostly for myself but also for those that are researching and wondering what it might be like further out than the first few weeks or months. My whole, long winded experience: The first 10 weeks after my surgery I followed the post-op diet to a T. My surgeon had given me the green flag for a regular diet at my one month follow-up appointment and I stayed on course. Until 5 weeks later when my niece came to visit. I thought choosing to indulge a little was an okay and well-thought out decision. I wanted to be "normal", or rather, like a skinny person, meaning occasional…

My doctor would never offer a number other than 50% of my excess weight, the average loss for sleeve patients. That would have put me at 211. I want to get below 160, which is entirely my goal. I'm currently at 168. I think I'm starting to plateau, which isn't bad given I started at 285, but I want my goal. Am I being unrealistic? How did you set your goal? Hi All, I am petrified. I was sleeved 4/13. I went from 244lbs to my lowest 139lbs. I must say it was the best thing I've ever done. However, I am almost four years post surgery & I have gained 15lbs. I'm freaking out. I was in a car accident in Nov 2016 & it has slowed me down, I picked back up some bad habits, junk food, fries foods & I'm not working out due to herniated, bulging disc in my neck & back. I've been reading about the pouch reset & was thinking of doing that. Today, I started drinking Slim Fast shakes for Breakfast. I made a cabbage Soup, by the way which is very good. I'm ready to do everything to get 10-15lbs off. Please if you've bee…

  14. My wardrobe over the past many years has been varying shades of black or gray (see last pic). I have been shopping thrift stores mainly until I get to a place where my weight stabilizes, but decided I could use a couple of new items, so I decided to splurge. I bought WHITE pants!!! LOL. I know it may not seem like a big deal, but let me tell you, it really is. I've always carried so much of my weight in my butt and thighs and always chose dark colors for skirts and pants. It felt so good to buy a nice pair of white pants for spring, lol. In a size 10 no less. Squeeee!!!! 5 months out and gone from a size 18/20 in pants to a size 10!!! I am doing a celebration da…

I was married at the beginning of April in 1999. One of our wedding gifts were season passes to Six Flags over St. Louis. At the time, we were young and actually lived in the same town as the amusement park, so we were so excited to be able to just pop over whenever we wanted. The first time we processed our passes, we headed directly to Batman the Ride. Back in the day, the seatbelts attached to the overhead locking mechanism clipped in between the legs. As we were trying to get on, it was evident that my seat would not close. The kid working the ride asked me to hold on. He pushed it tight against me by using his feet against the seat in front of me and clipped …

Celebrating my first mini victory. Stepped on the scale this morning and finally broke out of the threes. Weighed in at 299.6. Haven't been under 300 in at least 5 years. My weight has always been a roller coaster but when I crossed back over 300 years ago it was really depressing for me. When I first started this journey in May 2016 I climbed back up to 354 lbs. I'm only 3 weeks post-op as of tomorrow, and despite having a bumpy journey the first two weeks I'm so thrilled to see the progress. I've lost 18 lbs since surgery and a total of 36 lbs since starting the two week pre-op diet. I'll take a 36 lb loss in 5 weeks! Long way to go yet but excited for the rest…

I can swim and bike again!), it has changed my perspective toward food (I actually prefer eating now since I don't hate myself after each meal anymore), I have changed my life habits in …

When I was in the midst of getting myself emotionally prepared for my surgery I was asked to read 10 different books. I did and none of those books answered the questions that I really wanted to know. Things like, how will my life really change? How will I change? What can I expect from this surgery? I wanted to know how my world was going to change and in those 10 different books all I found was what could go wrong if you didn't follow this way of life to the letter. I spent a year blogging about what was going on for me at every appointment and the ups and downs of life in between. I was raw and vulnerable in all that I wrote about and it helped me to begin to slowly he…

Bumped into a casual friend this past weekend that I hadn't seen since May (I had my surgery in September and I'm down 80lbs) in the parking lot of a local store. I waved. He stared at me blankly. I walked over to him and his eyes were masks of confusion with not even the slightest bit of recognition. "Matt... it's Rob, you f-ckin' drunk!" "HOLY SHIT! MATE, WHAT THE F-CK HAPPENED TO YOU?" Best reaction I've had. I'll never tire of that kind of thing.

  34. So I've been a little down (but not too much) since I've been mostly stalled for the past 2 weeks (the weight might go down a pound or two, but then I regain it back). I know things are changing though, because I've definitely lost weight all over - I measure everything (head, neck, upper chest, breast, lower chest, waist, hips, and both right and left of the following: arms, breasts, thighs, calves, and feet (around the arch).) I've lost in every category. However, I don't know why, but I haven't been trying on smaller clothes, although I haven't been this weight in over 3 years! Well, I was packing for a trip tonight, and decided to try on some old or never worn clothes…

Today I discovered that at 32 I now fit back into my high school formal dress again. I'm am amazed. But what I do notice is how different my body looks though it is a little hard to recall my 17 yr old body. I really feel that I am still much larger now than I was then and yet that dress fits with ease. Perhaps I filled that dress with more lean muscle and far less fat? Anyone else find along the way?

I had my gastric sleeve done January 11th. I weighed 333.1lbs. I'm 10 months post op now and weigh 144.2lbs. I've set new goal weights as I've gone along...first was just to get under 200lbs, then I thought I wanted my goal weight to be 180lbs. When I got there, I made the crazy goal of 150lbs never thinking I'd make it....but I did. So then I figured my goal would be 145lbs which puts me at a normal bmi...which I haven't been since I was around 10. Now that I weight 144lbs, I've decided my final goal will 133lbs, which will mean I will have lost a total of 200lbs....and I'll do it, I know I can. I never thought when I had surgery that weighing in the 130's would e…
