I'm officially one year and one week out from my surgery date. I can't believe it. I've lost 140 lbs from my highest weight and I'm literally stunned at how the weight has just fallen off. Some people do not even recognize me because of this. Sometimes I do not even recognize myself because I feel like I will always be the "chubby" girl I've been since childhood. I've tried to explain this to some people but most don't understand... and I don't expect them to. I have always known this strong, amazing, resilient person was here, but didn't always know my potential to be such, because I was too busy hiding, unfortunately, but most likely, from myself. The first few mon…

So I am just about a year out since my surgery. Had it on May 23rd of 2016. Far and away I can say this was the BEST decision that I have ever made in my life. My highest weight was 433 lbs with my surgery weight at 397 lbs. Proud to say just about a year after surgery I currently weigh 194 pounds. 203 pounds down since the surgery and 241 down overall. I literally cannot even tell you how much this has changed my life for the better. I am posting this because I want everyone to know that if I did it you can too. If anyone has literally any questions at all for me please don't hesitate to reach out. I

I had my consultation today and I'm scheduled for surgery in September 2017, I put down on my paperwork I am a smoker, but after all the questions I had, I forgot to ask about smoking. I am so nervous and excited about this new life Journey, but to be honest smoking is one thing that really calms my nerves. I know it's terrible for me, but I don't want to quit just yet. I feel like maybe losing the weight first and quitting after... just looking for what others have done, and advice. Thank you!!

So it's been one year since surgery. I am so thankful everyday for my sleeve. Before surgery I had to be on oxygen because I was so overweight I couldn't breathe properly and could hardly walk around a room without getting out of breath. Now I can walk 6 miles and up hills without stopping for a rest. I'm down 200 since surgery and 263 overall. I started at a size 36/38 (probably stretching it out) and now I'm a 18/20 too and 22 bottom (though probably smaller because of my extra skin...that will be gone soon though). I'm having a panniculectomy on June 5th. I'm nervous but also excited. Anyone who has had it...what are some things you think I'll need to help me out whil…

  7. Hey everyone I just wanted to share that I had the gastric bypass one week ago today and so far so good! I think the preop diet really helped me to prepare for this. The surgery went very well and I didn't need much pain meds in the hospital. I made myself get up and walk and was released the next morning. I had bloating and gas as expected but not too bad. I really want to thank the Methodist Hospital Bariatric Program (Sacramento, CA) and my surgeon Ruby Gatschet for such a smooth process. I referred to my postop eating booklet once I got home and have lost 4lbs so far. I am looking forward to progressing in the booklet and changing my life to better my health.

  10. Hello! I was sleeved on April 13! I'm trying to get a group of Boston people together to hang out , talk, swap stories, progress, recipes, etc. I've found since I had my surgery that a lot of my friends have become distant and stopped including me in stuff because they think I can't eat or drink. This app is great and all, but I figured a group meeting together sort of like our own support group, would be great! We could plan outings and stuff like that?! If anyone is interested, let me know!! Thanks .... Dawn Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I need to start making a grocery list for my pre and post op diet so if you have low sugar baby food suggestions or just any type of suggestion in general i would greatly appreciate it. I am starting to get nervous about it and need to focus on getting things prepared lol. Help mee Sent from my LGMS330 using BariatricPal mobile app

  13. I haven't been able to wear shorts in over a decade. Today, while on my first vacation in years, I tried on and bought my first pair of shorts. I have lost close to 70lbs and today can fit into an XL shirt and a size 16 bottoms. That's coming from a 4x top and a size 24 bottoms just 4.5 months ago. I am too excited with my progress!! I feel like I not only have a second chance at life, but I have a hindsight that will allow me to do things a bit better this time. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

Today I'm finally in the overweight category as far as my BMI goes. Very cool! I feel as though my appetite has increased recently, so I was worried that I was eating too much. That's despite sticking to my macro goals and weighing my meals. The strangest thing about losing 79 pounds is that I feel as though I look the same as I did 6 months ago. The mind is a dangerous thing!

Because of my very demanding work schedule, I rarely have time to do anything! But I had a shortened shift so I was able to schedule my preadmission testing in. 26 days before the actual surgery date but... My hospital allows it. Anyways, during the visit, I had some lab work down and other final tests. The last bit of the visit was an interview with a nurse. She went over the basics and collected my information as one. One of the things she advised of kind of caught me off guard... She explained that I would only be expected to stay the night of my surgery and most likely be discharged the next morning. Is that normal?! Everywhere I've seen, everyone who has had the s…

Just thought I'd post a little update. June 5, I was at my heaviest 410 pounds. I felt like DEATH...literally. I had SEVERE sciatica which caused me to go onto disability after working for YEARS...I couldn't walk. I couldn't stand. I couldn't sit. All I could do is LAY THERE and cry because of the nerve pain down my left leg and lower back. It was either back surgery or weight loss surgery. Since I also HAD high blood pressure and PCOS plus VERY obese and the severe sciatica...I thought weight loss surgery would be my best bet. Plus, healing would be 2837739354928 times harder if I were to under go back surgery at my weight. Dr's told me over and over again that losing we…

  24. After all this time, and all this work, I still love my sleeve even with everything that comes with it. I am still amazed at how my body cyclically and periodically continues to drop weight. I never dreamed that I would lose this much. I have left my stretch goal in the dust, because when I started it seemed unlikely I would ever reach it anyway even though it would still be considered 60 pounds overweight. I am now well beneath that and I am continuing. Here is a picture of before and present.

Afternoon all! I'm writing this on a super awesome day: my one-year post op date! This day last year, I weighed 387 pounds and was in recovery after my bypass. This day two years ago, I weighed 450 pounds and saw very little hope of making it past 30. Today I am 207 pounds and perfectly healthy. How times change. I've learned so, so much in the last two years since I started down this road towards health and happiness. Some of the things I learned were tough lessons, some of them were illuminating and freeing, but all of them together have brought me here. "Here" is a place I never in a million years thought I could be. "Here" is an entirely different Abby, an Abby …

My lovely, exquisite, slim daughter, who is the only one in the family who does not struggle with her weight, pulled on my jeans and - they did not fit her! She could not button them! I guess that I really have succeeded in doing something truly spectacular for myself over the past nine months, when I started this journey at 205 pounds. For the record, she is as thrilled as I am.

I started at a size 20 jeans and I'm almost able to fit into a 14. I feel so much better than I did and I have more energy. I'm so thankful I chose to go on this journey because I would have never made it this far trying on my own.

I have severe PCOS so I was afraid my weight loss would not be as efficient as I wanted. I have had zero complications, and no more cholesterol/blood pressure/sugar/period issues! Not only that but I feel that this journey helped me open up a little and actually share myself with others and accept help from people. My life has significantly improved and I am so happy I decided to go through with this. 42. Hi Everyone: it has been many years since I was active on this Board but I wanted to share some exciting news, especially for New York City area people. I had lapband surgery almost 8 years ago and I have written a show about both my life before as an Opera Singer, my surgery and my life since. It had its debut performance on May 15th to a sold out house so we have added a second performance on July 11th at Dixon Place in New York on the Lower East Side. I wanted to share the information in case of any interest here. This board was so important to me when I had my surgery that I wanted to come back and let you know. http://dixonplace.org/performances/bandw…

Today I celebrate my 1 year anniversary of my sleeve surgery! It's amazing how much has changed in a year! I've lost 118lbs. I've gone from a tight size 28 jean to a loose 18, and a 4X shirt to an XL. I recently fit in an airplane seat comfortably and didn't need a seat belt extender. I love clothes shopping now, can pound out an hour on the elliptical with ease, and can paint my own toenails AND breathe at the same time! =) I still have about 60 lbs to go, but I have no doubts that I will get there. I feel amazing already, and it's only going to keep getting better from here.

Currently in the pre op testing phase. I expect I will get my surgery date soon for late June-early July. I still struggle with staying on track and counting calories. I'm assuming we all have had this issue if we are here so What Changes after the surgery? I assume it's still going to be hard afterwards, but how mentally do you go from struggling to stay on track to having kind of no choice but to stay on track? Because I have failed so many times losing weight and yo yo dieting in my head I feel like I will get this and not lose a pound. Which I'm pretty sure is impossible. Any insight into this from post sleeved peeps would be great! Thanks.
