Now I am just "super obese" thanks to the 14 lbs I lost since surgery 6 days ago...clear liquids does wonders for the waist! Too funny that I am happy to be super obese! Can't wait until 195 lbs then I am just "obese", then from 160-190 lbs I will be just overweight! I am 5'7". There was a talk show on today and the host (Steve Harvey) said the problem with all of this obesity is that we call it by fancy names instead of just calling it what it is, FAT. If we went back to calling you fat versus obese, it might make people want to fix it....of course he is a little chubby, or thick...oh I mean fat so it was sort of funny he was talking like that.

I went to my PCP yesterday and he took me off my dibetes and high blood pressure meds. I'm thrilled. That was my biggest reason to get surgery. And I'm only down 34 lbs. best decision I ever made.

Finally finding my way back to this forum, it's been a LONG time. I'm about 16 or so pounds from my new goal weight. Ha! 175 seemed so unobtainable that I never thought I'd actually hit that number, much less pass it and keep going. I'm still losing - in month 19, I'm at 5 pounds lost. I weigh 166 and am 5'6". Best decision I've ever made, but it's also a LOT of hard work. There's no easy way out. I make decisions every single day and I live with the consequences of those choices. I still only eat around 800 calories a day. I can get up to 1200 if I try really hard, but I still have amazing restriction and I seem to lose best at 800, so I just keep it there. I get aroun…

Now I wait. I have UPMC for You, which is medical assistance here in Pa. I had some issues with weight gain during the 6 month diet because of a severely abnormal TSH level, so I'm a little concerned about approval. Hopefully the letter from my PCP helps that. Fingers crossed. And toes. And eyes..........

Its been almost 5 months now. Its amazing how much I have changed. Compliments are pouring in. My self esteem is up, I feel more confident, and most of all I got my sexy back. The reason behind my decision to have this surgery was primarily my health. But ive gain more than i expected. From 375 I have lost 95lbs in such a short time. I wore a size 30, i am now my way to a size 16. Its been over 12 years since i could wear a size 16. My husband is proud of me, my children loves the new me. I'm happy!

Hello. My name is Christopher. I'm a long time food addict. I had the lap band surgery two years ago and I joined Overeaters Anonymous, a 12 step program like Alocholics Anonymous. I lost 180 pounds, but I've started gaining it back. I discovered that my eating habits and addiction to sugar/flour is still with me. I have a lot to change and learn about my food. My nurtienist recommended this site to keep track of my weight loss. I still need to lose about 20 pounds. I stll go to Overeaters Anonymous meetings in my area. It helps. OA made me realize that I'm addicted to sugar and flour. I am a food addict.

Well I think I've just had the most mind blowing NSV yet (and I've had a lot of them!) When I started this journey a year ago, I wore a size 46. I had to special order all my clothes online because I couldn't find clothes big enough to fit me in stores, not even the plus size stores. I gave up wearing blue jeans decades ago. Today, for the first time in 20 years, I am wearing size 18 jeans. I SO love my band!!! (below is my happy dance!)

Did anybody else get this surgery, simply because they are 'shallow'??!!! Surely I am not the only one who wanted to LOVE shopping, who wanted to buy cute clothes and look good in them!! Is it a sin, is it taboo to do this to look better? I don't see that it is any different than bigger breasts, a face life or botox. I am in Texas, Texas women...SOUTHERN women are vain, I am certain I'm not alone!! I had NO health problems, zero, which is why the insurance route was not an option. I cannot admit to the majority of people that this was all about vanity, but to tell the truth, it was. I fought to maintain 228 lbs. I had been on a constant diet, picking, choosing and…

Today my team at work went out for lunch. There was seven of us and one Minivan (that seated seven). Pre band I would have to ride shotgun. Today, I climbed all the way to the very back seat. Yep I was one of the three in the back. I fit! I was so pleased that I rode back there both ways. I love a good NSV!

Surgury date June 18th 2012, as of 1/11/13 I was officially at 80 pounds lost. Yesterday I took pictures because I was having trouble seeing any difference in myself lately, and taking those pictures completely made my week. I went into them thinking there wouldn't be much of a difference between my 50 pound pictures and these, but I was shocked at how wrong I was. It really put the confidence back in me and it makes me want to work even harder!

If you asked me 14 months ago if I would be fitting in a size 10 wedding dress that I will need alterations on to make it smaller, I'd laugh at you in my size 22 and say NEVER! Today, 76 pounds down, thats exactly what happened. I've never felt more beautiful on the outside then right now. Nine more months untill I marry the man who has loved me for BIGGER or SMALLER the last 13 years. I'm just so excited that I had to post!

I post this in my blog, but I've gotten so much personal feedback about my journey from these pictures, I'd thought I'd share it on here as well. Thursday is actually my 5 month Surgiversary- but this past weekend I attended a friends birthday party and they took a lot of candid shots of me, I compared them to some candids from last summer. Pretty amazing difference at this point and I"m not even at my official optimal goal yet. I am the brunette in the top pictures wearing the orange/reddish dress. Height: 5'9 Highest (Surgery) Weight: 216 1st Primary Goal Weight: 169 (Achieved 11/27) 2nd Optimal Goal Weight: 145 Sleeve Journey: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~…

Do any of you longterm sleevers ever wish you had the bypass instead of the sleeve? And if you do for what reasons? I have researched both and know the pros and cons for both. I have always felt confident that the sleeve is for me however every once in a while I think with the bypass I would lose faster or more importantly lose more of my excess weight. Faster is not the end all be all to be but the thought a better percentage of weight loss sticks in my mind. I still feel the sleeve is for me but wanted to hear everyone's thoughts.

I'm having doubts today. Things like Can't you just do that diet that was the most successful and stick to it this time? You could be one of he ____% that gets a leak or other life threatening thing. You could use that self paymoney for other things. Your kids could have nicer clothes for school etc. Do you really want to risk your life and possibly leave your husband jobless, and kids motherless? I have 3-4 weeks left, depending on a few factors and I was 100% ready until today. No idea what happened. In really starting to feel Scared, lame for not being able to do this alone, worried for my family, etc. so many emotions. I know this is "normal" a…

People post about their NSV's and I have had my share of them. I was blessed that I could have this surgery and have the surgery team and follow up that I do. Over the years and even up to now I have had and still get NSV's. The first one and one that is a biggie amoung weightloss patients is crossing their legs, now I will share some more: I have more confidence than I ever had in my life, I love having my picture taken (I don't have many pictures of me prior and that is sad), I love clothes shopping, I love dressing up, I can fit into a resturant booth with plenty room to spare, I fit in my seat on an airplane and not invade someone's space, my tray on the airplane …

Last night I went roller skating. (That in itself is an Nsv) some friends wanted pictures for Facebook. When I looked at the pics, my first response was "Holy crap! When did I get a normal-sized face?!" I now have a visible neck and a slimmer face! I love this band!!

I'm so excited!! For my fifty pound loss I went on a hike in the mountains, about an hour total up and down . For my 100 pound loss I also went on a hike in the mountains!! What a miracle day! We went hiking in the mountains. The hardest hike I've ever done in my life. Up 1300 feet and 4 1/2 hrs long (7 miles). This was up and down then up again. This was climbing tons of stairs that aren't easy like normal stairs and up the mountain over rocks and crawling in small places in a cave!! Ill post pics where you can see those steps behind my son, thise weren't the worst ones!! It was crazy climbing over rocks and up and down steps as high as my knees and so steep you had…

I am so excited! After being at 141 pounds for about 2 months I woke up today and stepped on the scale and it said 139 lbs! I did a happy dance because I have not seen the 130's for years. I feel even more motivated to get the last 19 off!!! I was banded 4/12/11 and started out at 215 lbs : ) Sent from my iPod touch using LapBandTalk

I am grateful that I have lost 70 lbs. I weight 195 lbs. now. However, despite all that weight lost, I don't feel skinnier. I feel the same, shape and everything but a smaller version of an equally overweight person. When does that change? When I am at a "normal" weight according to charts? That would be between 135-145 for my 5'4" frame. I am closer to that, but thought that at this point I'd feel skinnier but I don't. What is your experience? At what point of the journey you thought: "This is IT, I am not losing anymore weight!"? Thanks in advance for your response. I could have not gone through this without your help and encouragement from day one. Hugs.

I'm curious how people chose the sleeve? I am on the fence but I'm leaning toward the sleeve. Could you please share what the cons were for you on choosing the sleeve?

As of today I've lost 99 pounds and reached my goal weight of 135. I had my surgery 8 1/2 months ago. This is still like a dream to me. I've still got a way to go fitness-wise. Now I'm thinking about saving for plastic surgery. After 3 c-sections and having my last child at the age of 40 my tummy just looks gross. On a brighter note today I bought an impossibly small looking (and incredibly stretchy) pair of size 4 pants!!

Last night, 10 of us went out to a 5 star restaurant....after 2 pre-dinner cocktails, skipped the appetizers ordered for the table. Then the entree's arrived....large lobster with all the fixings! One or 2 bites, and already I knew I was almost finished...so after that I just picked at my food and carried on conversation... Turns out, because of the band, I was only able to eat about 1/4th of my meal....and that was slow.... Then we had coffee, no problem, and Key Lime pie for dessert...which I was only able to have one or 2 forks.....a good taste if you will..... And that's how it is for me....I did not need to measure, weigh or count calories.....the band is th…

I'm an RN who recently had VSG on 11/16. I'm making a poster about bariatric surgery. Part of the poster is about why people have weight loss surgery. I thought of few things, but if anyone has something I can add or research I'd love to hear. Here is what I have so far: Why choose weight loss surgery? 1. 95% of diets fail leading to wt regain or increased weight 2. Resolution of comorbidities: sleep apnea, diabetes, joint pain, depression, mobility issues etc 3. Difficult to treat obesity without surgery as a tool due to addiction to food, social& physical barriers to losing weight 4. Cost of obesity: extra medical expenses, food costs 5. Improvement in mo…

Hi, First, please don't comment if you're going to be negative. I'm intelligent enough to understand what I'm doing wrong. I have an addiction. It's to food. I've tried every diet under the sun, I've worked out incessantly, I've cried and I've struggled and I've oftentimes 'hid' at home rather than go out socially. I think some of you (maybe most of you) can relate. I view this surgery as a 'last straw. ' How can I not, it's surgery after all! On top of that, I paid for half the surgery and my father paid for the other half (self-pay). Today is day 11 since I was sleeved (01/09). I feel no pain. I have no complications. I'm able to drink Water pretty quickly. In…

Its been about 9 weeks since my surgery and am down a good bit of weight and am in a size 16 jean! now - i want to move much smaller than 16, but this is like a huge mental achievement for me. not to see the letter W behind a size, or even an 18 or 20 is just so awesome. at my very largest a few years ago, I got as big as a 28, but since my surgery have dropped from a 22/24 to a 16. SO awesome. thanks for letting me share my excitement!

Hi bandsters, I haven't checked in here in a long time, but I just wanted to let you all know that as of today I have lost 246 pounds on my lap band journey. I was banded in late 2008, and lost about 200 pounds in two years. Then I plateaued for about a year, thinking that perhaps that was as low as I could go. Then when getting another fill my port tubing got struck and my band was slowly leaking. Only we didn't know that at first. I had a bunch of tests done to rule out band slipping, etc. I had lost most of my restriction and I gained back 30 pounds. I had port and tube replacement surgery a little over a year ago, and ever since then, my weight loss has gotte…

73 lbs down!! My husband and I went out last week with a few other couples and I have always been so self concious. I've always been the "fat" wife out of all the wives and girlfriends of our friends and hated going places. For the 1st time I haven't felt like the fat girl at the party. I didn't feel uncomfortable or out if place, not that our friends ever made me feel that way. They never have in any way and are fantastic but you have to be happy with yourself first. I have a little ways to go but I do believe this was the best decision for me!!

Haven't spent alot of time on here lately, I think the further out from surgery we are the fewer questions we have and are more active and spending less time on the computer. I have decided to finally post some pictures. I had my surgery May 20th 2012 and am down 92 lbs so far and want to lose 30 more.

Hi all, so I am exactly one month out today and am down 21 lbs., which is what I was down on 1/10/13 at my follow-up with my surgeon...soooo apparently I hit the dreaded 3 week stall. I did take my measurements and have lost 8.5", all from my waist up! It needs to switch to below the belt next month.....keeping my fingers crossed. lol
