I just got banded a couple days ago and am looking for a place to get info and talk to people who have been thru it. since the surgery i am fighting nausea, i can feel it inside me which is kinda weird, i get painful hiccups and explosive gastro issues. surgeon said this is normal and will go away soon. he called in anti nausea meds for me. anyone else go thru this? when will it stop?

  3. Just some random thoughts going through my head before the big day... After jumping through all the hoops required to get to this point I finally have a surgery date for 11/6. I was kind of surprised they only want me to do liquid diet 8 days prior to surgery but I'm not complaining. I have struggled the past week with not eating well but hopefully today I'll get that under control. I really shouldn't complain too much about the hoop jumping because insurance-wise this has been a fairly easy process but I still have that thought in the back of my mind that something is going to happen and they'll say they aren't going to pay. I'm just going to put those thoughts to r…

  4. Hi all, I am in the beginning stages of my journey. I have been overweight my entire life, tried every diet imaginable, some with success (some with great success I might add) but I always gain it right back. I am scared for my health, I don't want to die young because of my weight or have serious health problems. I met with my surgeon for the first time 6 weeks ago, had an EGD performed because of acid reflux, have been to a couple of support groups and had my pscyh consult last week. So now I wait. My doc wants me to lose about 40 pounds before he'd do surgery and I did great the first two weeks, but now it seems like I can not stop eating! I've been reading other…

Decided to have weight loss surgery and have started the research phase. I have definitely decided on the sleeve and I am happy I found this site. I will have to have the surgery overseas due to costs and lack of insurance coverage for any type of weight loss services. That is actually proving more difficult then I thought! Most people seem to have had the procedure down in Mexico. I was looking at Costa Rica or the Dominican Republic but can't find any posters who have had it done in either of those countries. I was happy to see some posts about Medical Tourism services...as I was going to look into that. My game plan is to have it done sometime this spring (I teach …

HI from North Texas, I have my initial visit with my chosen surgeon on Dec 1st. The 1st day my insurance starts. I have been looking at this for a year now, knowing I would have insurance on 12/1. I have to say I am kinda scared to think I will be giving up food, which has been my nearly only friend. I know I am looking at food all wrong, but its the truth, celebrations, disappointments, holidays, etc is was always food. I made this decision because my Hubby was told he should have WL Surgery or be dead in 5 years, he declined, and doctors damn near hit the timing on the money. He died of a massive stroke from uncontrolled diabetes about 2 1/2 years ago(I've ga…

Had my surgery yesterday (Halloween) morning and just got back home this afternoon. The surgery went off without a hitch and other than some aches and a bit of discomfort with the 6 holes and 35 staples in my tummy, I'm feeling great. I now believe I may have overthought the whole process a bit prior to the surgery....it wasn't anywhere near as hard or as painful as I had made it out to be in my head. Thank you to everyone on here that gives their time to share their experience and answer the many questions from the pre-surgery folks. It all now seems a bit surreal....my life's new chapter has begun!

I just received word today that I was cleared from psychological standpoint for the surgery and the surgeon's office will be submitting my paperwork and I should hear back within about 7-10 days! I have a feeling they will deny it at first because with my insurance you need a minimum of 6 months of monthly visits with a PCP that shows weight loss and diet modification counseling and I have only completed 3 of those months so far. According to the surgeon's office, if they deny the request they will usually tell you what you need to do before you can apply again. Has anyone had experience with Dr Braverman? Would appreciate all feedback.

Hi everyone, Mix it up when it comes to food. Don’t always keep eating the same things all the time. You will become bored and may go back to some of you old habits. One of the things I had to do for myself was; get rid of foods that would tempt me. NO JUNK foods in the house at all. I learned how to convert some of my old recipes into a healthy recipe. I used to be a real red meat eater. I found it difficult to chew red meat so many times—remember I had to chew 30 to 40 times before I would swallow it. I found out that chicken, turkey, and fish were much easier to chew and I actually learned a lot of different ways to cook these meats .I also started to eat some …

My surgeon will be Dr.Jeffrey Small, he is through Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown MD. My first appt with him is this thursday Nov. 3rd, my second appt with him is Nov. 15th. They do require surgical clearance from my PCP, which includes an EKG, I had one in May but the results are only good for six months. I've struggled with weight for a while as a child, but was able to overcome it for my last years as a teenager. About halfway into my military career, things took a turn for the worse and the weight came back stronger than ever. I battled back and forth with the weight, but in the end, I was out of regs so I could not reenlist. This was crushing to me. After being turned away by the military, I fell on some trying times, and the weight just kept coming. I was able to find a median and put the weight in it's place, but losing it wasn't working. Something has to change! My old doctor recommended Weight Watchers. So several years later I now have a new and more modern doctor. Wednesday I am going to ask her to forward me to a specialist. 1) I have no regrets! Down 40lbs so far!! 2) Learning what our bodies and sleeves our capable of is a learning process. Taking the time to listen to them is important. Overeating by one bite is painful! 3) I do not miss soda...I thought I would. 4) Evreryone has their own journey. No one is the same and that is a good thing. 5) life changes after the sleeve. The way you think, feel, eat, everything. But it is all for the good. 6) I sometimes miss being able to eat a normal amount and miss drinking alcohol. Still worth it though. I LOVE MY SLEEVE!
