I cant believe how fast this whole process has happened for me. It seems like just yesterday I attended my WLS seminar. My seminar was actually 01-22-19 and here I am preparing for surgery 05-22-19 in the morning. Thank to everyone who’s responded to my post with encouragement and advice. See ya on the looser bench ....,,,

I'm having surgery May 20. I am not sure what I should be doing besides making small strides in the food and exercise department. How did you prepared yourself in the month approaching surgery?? Did you tell your family and friends? I've only told my side of the family. Not the in-laws.

Day 11 of my 2 week liquid diet and I’m struggling today. I don’t know if I can do this, what am I doing????? My husband tell me every morning before I go to work how he’s so proud of me and I appreciate that. My 10 year old daughter wants to make sure everything I put in my mouth “mama can you have that” lol . I just don’t know how to feel right now, I’m excited, nervous, scared, sad, I’m just all over this place. My surgery is in 3 days and yes I did cheat on my diet Mother’s Day. I have lost 13 lbs so far but my diet does allow me to have lean meats and non starchy vegetables. So it’s not like I can’t eat , just not what I want. I don’t even know want to eat i…

So I'm super stressed out I started my journey on May 2, 2019 and yes only 2 weeks ago (they don't play out here in the Bay Area, Kaiser gets you in and out within a couple months) and am only 4 pounds away from hitting my goal, once that happens I will get surgery date which I also know will be really quick. But I'm a smoker and have been for 30 years and although I'm not a heavy smoker (a pack in 3 to 4 days) I'm not ready to give up my only release. I've giving up drugs over 20 years ago and now food and I will have an Awkward relationship LOL. Smoking is the only thing that will relax my nerves so help all that did smoke or are smokers what did you do????? Thanks for…

Hello! My surgery is tomorrow. I am having random bursts of intense anxiety. And keep thinking about how I'm going to feel when I wake up. I keep looking at my daughter and feeling guilty and afraid for her, you know in case something bad happens. I am getting through it okay. But just nervous.

Please re-direct me if this is a topic that's already being discussed. I've had a Lap Band since 2006, lost 130 pounds, kept if off until last year, and considered it to be very successful. Unfortunately, in the past few months, I've had esophageal problems, had to have the saline removed, and am scheduled to have my band removed in a couple of weeks. I'm very sad about this, as it literally changed my life. (I've gained back not nearly all, but a significant amount of weight since the saline was removed) In a few months after the band removal, I will be able to have another surgery, either gastric sleeve or bypass. I'm leaning toward the bypass. Can anyone…

Hello everyone, I had a great day today. I had my first surgical consultation and the doctor is amazingly nice. My husband went along and he became extremely supportive after hearing the surgeon's perspective. At the appointment she asked me what changed in 2018 that made me gain to my highest weight ever. I broke down crying and have been crying off and on since. Did any of you experience this after your appointment? I am happy that I will be getting the surgery. I have a wonderful spouse and a good life. Why am I so emotional?

Hello everyone, I have been lurking here for quite some time, but this is my first post. I started the program to have the gastric sleeve surgery back in 2017, however, due to a death in my family, I had to drop out and focus on my mental health for a while. I am starting my classes over on the 28th and I am really looking forward to making some big changes in my life. The first time around in the program it was required to take classes for 6 months, now they have changed it to 12 weeks! I wasn't really sure if I wanted to have the surgery the first time around, and I didn't make many big changes in my lifestyle. This time is different though. I am sure that I …

Can you check yourself out of the hospital once they say you’re free to go? Or do I have to have someone drive me home? (I plan on getting the sleeve) I really want to do this on my own and not have anyone know what I’m doing until I have everything under control. I don’t have family close by and don’t want my acquaintances to know. Don’t really have many friends I would feel comfortable with picking me up.

My surgery is tomorrow morning and I'm kind of worried about blood clots and the gas that everyone seems to get from surgery, due to me being in a wheelchair and not being able to walk off the gas and blood clots! Does anyone have any idea what they do for someone in my situation? Thank you, John

Here's a question! My pcp has been after me for years to get a colonoscopy and the pre-visit is this Friday. My DS surgery is scheduled for June 14. What if they can't schedule the actual colonoscopy until after my surgery? How does it all work with rearranged intestines?!

I have my one week pre-op diet in hand and while it specifies protein drinks it's a brand that only makes chocolate, vanilla, etc. Have any of you used Click protein powder? It's coffee/mocha flavor and I love it. Don't know if caffeine is on the forbidden list for any of you; I'll ask at my pre-op diet meeting, but wanted to get a head start.

I gave up smoking many years ago and gave up vaping 0 mg at the start of my journey in February. But I'm just curious... I know that we're not supposed to smoke or vape prior to surgery. I've also heard that even 0 mg nicotine vape isn't allowed either. Does 0mg contain any nicotine? If not, why isn't it allowed?

I’m sure there are post out there but I am looking for input from those who have bcbs Alabama. I recently switched jobs and the company insurance covers bariatric surgery. I have looked at my plan but can’t find how much it actually covers. For those of you who have it and have used it for your surgery, what % did the insurance pay and how long did you have to wait for the surgery? TIA

Hey y’all! Surgery is on 5/16! I’m on day 9 of liquid diet but I’m dying! I’d love to enjoy a pickle or 2 tomorrow during our Saturday green market. Are we ok to eat pickles during this horrid liquid diet? I’m so tired of just shakes and broth and water. Jesus help me! I’m also so anxious about next week. I’m here thinking about all of you in this journey and I’m sending all the good vibes and love your way! Tiff

Hi everyone! I’m new to the forum and new to all of this. I’m in the consideration phase. I think I want surgery (specifically sleeve) but I want to be sure. I know this will change everything in my life. I don’t care about looking slimmer, this is all about my health. I’m 44, pre-diabetic, struggle with borderline high blood pressure, and have sleep apnea caused by my size. I’ve been trying for a year to deal with my health problems the old fashioned way but it isn’t helping. I did manage to drop about 25lb but now I’m not progressing and it isn’t enough to effect my health conditions. So, what helped you decide? Thanks for reading!

Ok ladies, this ones for you! When the nurse called from the hospital to go over everything about the surgery day and anesthesia they informed me not to shave my legs 4 days prior to surgery because of the wipe they will give me to wipe on my body. They said it “can” make some women itch. Was anyone else told this and did you listen? Did you shave and then had an itching problem? Personally, I can’t stand fuzzy legs so I’m going to take my chances, but I am just curious about this.

Last Thursday I had a scratchy sore throat for a couple days. It went away. Figured it was allergies. Yesterday I started constant sneezing and no allergy meds in my arsenal would fix it. This morning I have crap in my chest, a slight cough and still a sneezing with a runny nose. No fever. This is NOT ideal for the week before surgery! Liquid diet starts today and Pre-op Appointment is tomorrow. Last thing I need is a stupid cold to postpone surgery plus my medical leave is all set up with HR. Waiting to hear from my surgeon about what they want me to do. Anyone else get a cold right before surgery?

Ive started on my pre-op diet and have been having a weird thing happen. Even though I am drinking lots of water like I normally do, my mouth has been dry for the past two days. I'm 9 days into the diet which my surgeon says should be just weight loss shakes. Do any of you have the same reaction?

Hi guys, new to this forum. I will be getting gastric sleeve sometime between Sept-Oct 2019. I am on month 3 of my 6 month Doctor monitored weight loss per my insurance. I was told that I needed to start taking vitamins pre and post surgery witch ones do you guys like or recommend? Also needing recommendations on a pre-workout drink mainly for energy and or recommended food for energy. I am in Phoenix Arizona, so it gets pretty warm during summer so trying to find lighter options that will sit well on my tummy while I work-out!

Since making the decision to start on the path to getting VSG surgery I have only had one "freak out", you know the "OH my God, what am I doing???" thing. My surgeon, who I love and have the utmost confidence in laughed when I told him about my first freak out and told me I was doing great as most people have had several by that point and that the "mother of all freak outs" usually came when people actually get their surgical date. Well, I got my date 25 days before surgery. Today is now 14 days. Until last night I was super comfortable and "go go go" about getting to the surgery. Following the hight protein, low carb diet really well, losing weight, trying different prot…

Hi everyone, I'm new to this and would love to have some input. I have been struggling with my weight for the past 8 years and today I had the first info session and initial meeting with a surgeon about a potential gastric bypass. I was REALLY taken by surprise when I got on the scale, I have been avoiding it for years and I thought for sure I would be around 200 - 210 and when I saw it was 300 I lost it (I'm 5'3 and 24 y.o.). It really shocked me to see just how bad it had gotten and how ignorant about it I had been. While I was considering the surgery before, facing this number really made me feel like I need to get it immediately. However, I still have lots…

I stepped away from this forum after my failed surgery attempt. I Was supposed to have gastric bypass March 27th. The doctor wasn’t able to complete the surgery due to past adhesions from a hysterectomy. It was unexpected so we had never discussed the sleeve as an alternative. I’m in the process of seeing if I can get the sleeve surgery approved but who knows. I wanted to say tell your doctor you are open to the other surgery just in case. I am so mad he did not ask and I did not say anything. I thought about it but I really wanted the bypass and he didn’t seem concerned. It’s a horrible feeling to wake up from surgery and find out nothing was done!
