  2. This quote hangs in my kitchen near where we come in and out as a reminder to myself and to my family to always live in the ring, to never sit the bench in your own life. As I sat here drinking my protein shake waiting to get the kids off the camp so I can go to bed (Night Shift) I really started to reflect on how this quote relates to us and to all of you in our WLS journeys. We've all faced adversity, failures, judgement and yet we are here, still making the conscious decision to change our lives. How many times have people outside the ring made hurtful comments about not needing surgery, but will power, or about taking the easy way out? They do not stand in this ring t…

  3. Hello all! I am new here. I went in for my second medically supervised diet today, and my Nurse Practitioner LOVED the custom layout I made for myself! I figured I would share it with everyone with an offer - if you want me to customize for you, I can do that! Hopefully this makes your days just a little bit brighter! I can also make a fillable PDF if anyone prefers to fill them out on their computer and print them! What can I say, I am tech-savvy! Bariatric Planner.pdf

Hey guys so Ive decided to head to Mexico for weightloss surgery. I would love some current feed back on the belite services as well as just hear an overall experience. I have already been in contact with them done paper work etc. I would like to know how long for surgery? Any one complications or regrets? Just looking for some more on hand accounts of procedure experience.

  6. One of my "new friends" on this board and I were chatting via posts and they made a comment that made me question something on the 'clear liquids' portion of the pre-op diet with is coming up in a day or 2 for me. I have on my list that I can have sugar free popsicles and even jello. I remember though when I was getting an upper GI and a colonoscopy several years ago, they required the popsicles and jello to either be yellow or green in color. I've looked at the list from my nutritionist AND my list from my doctor and they do not stipulate a color restriction (i.e. no red, orange, etc.) but I know they are going to do a leak test. Has anyone been told that the…

  7. Hello! I’m Simone and I’m 24 years old. Just like the majority of everyone else, I tried every diet under the sun. I loss 30 pounds by myself & gained it all back plus more. Last year I tried the Keto diet, loss 10 pounds my first month and gained it all back plus more as well. It gets discouraging to lose weight and gain it all back. I recently started my journey to VSG. 5-28 I had my first consultation with the surgeon at Mt. Sinai in NYC. So far, I have everything scheduled that I needed to schedule myself. The only thing that isn’t scheduled is the sleep study which they’ll call me for. I’m pretty excited for this journey & my new lifestyle that’s to come. I also …

Getting my surgery on August 2nd. Still unsure about getting a sleeve or a bypass. I’m 5’2’’ , 235 pounds (bmi of 43) with sleep apnea and acid reflux. My doctor said I could get either surgery, but the sleeve could increase the acid reflux. I’m worried about the dumping with the bypass. I’ve heard that with the sleeve, the surgeon removes the part of the stomach that sends the hungry signals. Whats your opinions?

Hello I'm scheduled to have surgery in June 2019 on my Washington State and looking for Buddies in my area.

  10. I’m only in the beginning stages of my year long pre- surgery stage. I called my insurance company today (required by surgeons office) to discuss my coverage. A few things I learned is that they only cover one surgery per lifetime so I need to choose wisely which surgery to go with. They also told me that skin removal is not covered, period. Not even apron removal. What has everyone used to help with loose skin and elasticity issues? I know genetics plays a huge role here and I know I’ve been given a crap hand in that department so I’m looking for ideas I can start now to help my skin heal prior to surgery.

My Referral was finally sent to the Doctor's office and I made my appointment for my consultation! What should I expect going into this consultation? What are some questions I should ask or that you wished you had asked? ?

  12. Started by KimmieGirl,

I am new to this site and like most I am scouring the internet for information. I am a married 46 year old who has been overweight my entire life. I found a wonderful physician in TN about a year ago and made my final decision to move forward right then and there. This was a decision that took me over 14 years to make, so I don’t take it for granted that I have this amazing opportunity to change my life. My VSG surgery is scheduled for June 12th! I am very excited and super nervous. Any words of encouragement and info are welcome. ???

  13. Hi guys, I’m in the mist of doing all my pre-op for the sleeve surgery. My doc, told me that by October I would be having surgery. The only thing is I do not want to tell my employer, that I’m having the surgery, because I feel that it’s not their business to know my private life. Furthermore I do not, receive vacations days at my job, I am risking to take a week off though. I know that I don’t have a date set, but what are some suggestions that can help me ?.

Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum. I just recently started my WLS journey and find myself having more and more questions each day. My name is Kiley. I'm 29 (soon to be 30 in August), and hail from Ohio. This coming week I attend my first support group but would like to get a head start on speaking with those who've already had the surgery or like myself, are in the pre-op period. You know, it's a funny thing. I'm feeling pretty confident about the surgery itself, but the aftermath is what I'm concerned about. For instance, loose skin, saggy breasts and hair loss. Has anyone ever experienced any of these and if so, how did you deal with it? Is there any…

  16. Hi my name is Jen! I am just beginning my pre-op testing and had my initial consult with my surgeon this past Friday. I’ve done a lot of research about the sleeve and the bypass but I am struggling with choosing which would be the best for me. I’m curious how did you choose the best option for you? What was the deciding factor for the surgery you chose?

  17. Started by Amelia2019,

This is my 3rd time going for the sleeve , I’ve mentioned this before! I was so afraid of dying during surgery the first two times . Yes that fear is still there of course but my want of a better life is more than this fear !!! Right now I’m concerned about my willpower! I eat fine during the day no cheating no over eating! But when I wake up in the middle of the night I go crazy for carbs and the worst food ☹️

  19. Started by Jdymitc,

So I got my insurance approval and am waiting on my final nutritionist consult where they review the 2 week diet. I’m really concerned about this phase. How did you get through your days at work not wanting to turn into a terror on people. I like the sensation of eating so this whole idea of nothing but liquid is worrying me that I’m gonna end up in jail for smacking someone. Please help me overcome this panicking feeling I’ve got going on.

  20. Sooooo I'm done with EVERYTHING required for insurance and I'm just waiting on the nurse to submit it to them. Is anyone else playing the waiting game? I figured it would be a wonderful help to be there for each other while we wait patiently (or impatiently in my case lol).

  21. Started by elegant1,

Today I finished my last pre op appt. Now the waiting begins for approval. The coordinator say if all go well looking at mid June.

Hi everyone! Does anyone have any advice on eating out and social gatherings such as weddings? I just started my pre-op diet and it's a lot more restrictive than I thought. Most of my menus are only 875 calories on average and the list of things I can't eat anymore is enormous. I know a lot of you have already been through this so I'm just asking for advice on how to eat out and such? I don't eat out often but are there recommended places and menu items? How about at social events like weddings? Do people just quietly pack their own food? Thank you all in advance for your help!

Hi Everyone, I love reading everyone's journey! I have just started mine, have my first appointment on the 27th. I've been doing lots of reading and research. One question I have for you is what tricks did you use to slow down your eating? This is going to be one of my challenges for sure. I catch myself eating to fast all the time and I know this will be a huge problem post surgery. Any tips are greatly appreciated! Thank you

I am 2 weeks pre op, and I am torn. I have worked for a year to get here and now I’m worried I’m going to be full of regrets for doing something to my body I can never undo. I am having the VSG and worried if I will be able to maintain the vitamins and diet (obviously if I had self control I wouldn’t be this size) and that if I do maintain and lose the weight that I will have excess lose skin and just be trading one body issue for another. Am I crazy? Did anyone else struggle with this? Does anyone have regrets or wish they hadn’t done the surgery? I just want (need) some real talk. Can I do this? What results might I expect? How do people deal with the body changes? Will…

Hi guys, I started my pre-op diet last week. I can have 1 healthy meal a day and shakes the rest. My calorie intake can be no more than 1200. I had lost 5lbs when I weighed in on Friday, but when I weighed this morning I gained 3 lbs. back?!? I don’t get what’s going on since I’m following the diet and not having more than 1200 calories. 31. Today was my pre-op diet and I got on the scale and it went up 5 lbs since my last drs visit a month ago. I will admit I have been eating the foods I will no longer be able to eat for a long while... kind of to get it out my system, however I'm extremely nervous because now I have to really focus and do the pre-op diet wich is liquids and one healthy meal. The doctor did state that I needed to lose weight or the surgery could be put on hold! A ton of emotions and thoughts are going through my mind, will I make it? can I do it? what if I don't lose the weight? I just need some words of encouragement thank you...

  32. Is anyone else experiencing struggles at home with your family support system? How did you overcome someone or multiple people trying to sabotage you preoperatively? I've had conversations about my concerns with them and I feel like I'm not being heard. I'm also worried if I'm too honest with the surgeon and Psych Eval. about being sabotaged they won't proceed with the procedure. Did any of you deal with this issue and how did you overcome this, because I know this is not something that I can't take back after surgery. I am changing my life and body permanently! Any help or support would be greatly appreciated.

Kinda concerned about the psychological evaluation. I am diagnosed with Bipolar but don't have the highs and lows. I am afraid once he sees that he won't approve me. My provider for mental health said for me to not be disappointed if they say no. That makes me nervous, they act your crazy and can't make rash decisions. I am aware of the emotional aspect of depression after the surgery. I think I will be fine. Is there anything that you have learned from your evaulations that could prepare me?

So im on my pre op diet and i have not cheat 1 bit and im not hangry yet. lol The nurse called and we talked about my protein i need to be eating! she said i can have a subway veggie sandwich with but on eat 1 side of the read. She told me i have a option daily i could eat any type of seafood throughout the day except lobster because it rubbery and harder to digest or a 4 oz lean meat like a steak and patty . This is relief because i feel a food headache coming on BIG TIME.!

  37. Thx for allowing me to join. I had surgery 2014 @200lb. Today, 5yrs later, weighing in 50 HEAVIER than surgery date. I have MANY autoimmune diseases-no cure, but steroids are used to get under control. One of the diseases actually attacks my thyroid gland, causing hypothyroidism (Hashimoto Disease). Has anyone else had this crazy roller coaster ride?!? Besides loosing my sanity, I’m about to give up on losing anymore. I eat VERY healthy, but I had to STOP walking bc the bones & joints in my feet are wearing down and breaking down. Autoimmune diseases are just the opposite of a healthy immune system. Looking for some help and advice on a few things. Looks like am will be getting approved for surgery in late July 2019. I have lost 30+ pounds but I feel like the closer I get to that time the more depressed and anxious I am. Also, despite losing some of this weight I am very self-conscious right now. I don't feel like I am in a great place but I am hinging a lot on the long term of feeling better and being able to do more. The transition to healthier food hasn't been bad for me, but I am often hungry. I am not a binge eater but I have a healthy appetite and quit when I feel full (problem is getting to full!) I also don't have many friends and I have …

  39. Medicare covers bariatric surgery and by law all Medicare advantage plans MUST cover everything Medicare covers and they CANNOT tack on a bunch of requirement criteria that Medicare doesn't have. Your bariatric clinics insurance coordinator can help you navigate all this because trust me the insurance company is usually of little help. Most of the time they don't want to even admit to you they cover it.

Hello everyone! I'm in the beginning process of this journey and i've already ran into a road bump. (dr didn't put proper info on refer so got a call saying I didnt meet guidelines thankfully I asked what I didn't meet and explained it must have been a typo error.) anywho, I am trying to find out what tests everyone had to do prior to surgery. which ones are required ect if it helps im going to uf and shands in Gainesville once my pcp fixes the errors on refer but figured since they require you to do test before you can schedule surgery why not get ahead and get most of it done before my consult with dr's.

  43. My sister gifted me a cute mini spoon. I'm having sugar free jello for my snack. Protien shakes and for dinner, salmon, mixed veggies and jello. I meal prepped for the first time.

  45. Rockwood Weight Loss Center This is the total cost (minus two night stay in Deaconess Medical Center) for sleeve/bypass/lapband. They also require a bariatric psych eval (around $300), an EKG and labs. Some people might need more testing. These are not listed in cost, as you get them through PCP. Cost for sleeve is just under $7000.

I haven’t told many people at my work that I was having surgery. I have been an MA 20 years and currently work in a dr’s office and get along well with everyone (most of the time) I have seen and heard very judgmental things be said before about overweight people and subsequently WLS. Today one of the RN’s walked in on a conversation that I was having with the person who will be covering for me. She looked at me like I had two heads and I said to her “that is exactly why I have not told people”. She said fine, I want to lecture but I won’t, I will just say I hope it goes well for you!! Hi everyone, I’m so nervous as my first ever(!) appointment is on Saturday. I’m about 5’2 and 226 - just hit the 40bmi mark so I believe that should be in my favor. My insurance will allow the surgery. But here is my main question - is there anything I should NOT say that will hinder my chances of the doctor accepting me as a patient? I know that sounds corny but I have tried every diet known to man in the past 4 years and the weight just keeps creeping up. All I think about is my weight - all day everyday. I need professional help because obviously I can’t do this on my own at this point. I’m so scared of rejection so any help would be so soooo appreciated. T…

My surgery is this week, and I went ahead and bought me some stuff to take to the hospital. Some mouth rinse for dry mouth, a robe, socks, slippers, some gowns, toothpaste and toothbrush. I'll find out more Tuesday about what to take and what to expect. The only really downside is I caught a cold on Wednesday and it hit me hard Friday and Saturday. Hoping this doesnt postpone surgery as getting LOA through work was a process. Undoing it and redoing it seems like a PITA but hopefully it will not come to that.
