So I wake up to find out I was cut open and the surgery wasn't even done since my liver is still too large...they want me to lose 20 lbs before they will attempt it again... I'm so dissapointed and feel like maybe that this surgery isn't in the cards for me... I get in a car wreck in the surgery parking lot...and now I go under the knife to be closed back up. They knew my weight before I went under I don't get it

Happy Friday y’all! So I’m on day 2 of this liquid diet. Surgery date is 5/16! I had my first protein shake at 8:30am but I’m feeling very lightheaded and woozy right now. Anyone experienced this? What can I have to help reduce it? Also can I have fat free green yogurt during the liquid diet or just the protein shakes and broth and diet drinks? I’m trying to survive on water, shakes, and broth which I have like 3 times a day.

Hello everyone, I wanted to see how many May 2013 sleevers there are! What are you doing at this point to prepare for surgery? What are your stats? I am scheduled for May 15th. So excited, but nervous!! I am currently 260 and my highest was 268 in February. I plan to get down to at least 250 before the two week Protein diet prior to my surgery. My goal weight is 150 which I haven't been at in about 7 years! I started my journey in January of this year. I was fortunate enough that my insurance approved me without requiring a 6 month monitored diet. I have a good amount of support, didn't start off that way though. First responses were "you're taking the easy way out", …

I'm not sure I'm still trying to get approval. I have alot of stomach problems. Reflux disease and ulcers in the past. Nausea alot. Severe constipation. Does any one know how dangerous it is to have either. I'm scared they will cut out the good funtioning stomach and I'll be stuck with the bad. Then being sick for my life. If so I'd rather be fat. The point isn't to be sick or worse the rest of my life.[emoji15] [emoji16] [emoji40] [emoji44]

I just went to my first seminar on Friday and have an appointment with the surgeon tomorrow. What type of questions should I ask? Also I don’t know where to start here at the forums. I have so many questions about the post op diet plans. I’m not worried about the pre diet plans, I’m interested in knowing about the solid diet food plan afterwards. I want to know what I’ll be eating. Wondering how much weight I will lose, I’m 255, was 331 two years ago. I just survived a major surgery last year for a ruptured colon and was septic. I had a colostomy bag for 4 months then had a resection done, so I’m not worried about the actual surgery as I went to hell and back. Eating clea…

Question: has anyone ever had bariatric surgery while they had braces on their teeth? I'm at the end of my journey with braces (hopefully get them off next month), but I have surgery scheduled for July 13th. I am just wondering if it could cause me to have to postpone surgery if I still have them on in July. Thanks!

Hi everyone! My name is Tiffany A good friend recommended this forum and I’ve been reading and it feels so supporting and welcoming! I was given my surgery date today and in 15 days I’ll be getting the gastric sleeve! I’m terrified but I really need help getting rid of this extra 200 lbs! But I’m a little worried about the liquid diet. I used to fast a lot (religious reasons) but never just liquids. I work at a very stressful clinic and while I’m currently on the Keto and loving it, I was hoping y’all had advice as to how to handle temptations or avoid feeling weak and such. Also, can I take vitamins during the pre or no? Thank you so much! Please send the goo…

Ive been wondering.. when getting gastric bypass, what happens with the stomach muscles? Do they cut through them or what? I feel kind of stupid for asking, but I cant seem to find this anywhere since the focus is typically on the stomach and not the abdominal muscles. Does anyone know how they are affected?

What are the "little," somewhat trivial, things that you look forward to once thinner? -Being able to lean in to my washing machine and reach clothes straight on versus having to have my side against it to reach to the bottom or use a steps tool. -Being able to lean over the bathroom counter to get a drink of water to swish wash my mouth out post-brushing/mouthwash (i'm too cheap to use cups LOL). -Tucking my legs in better when at the movies/sporting events where people can pass by easier.

Hi everyone, I’m helping my wife begin the process of preparing for gastric sleeve surgery. We have ChampVA, and the people in the government bureaucracy (some of which are truly good people,) are incredibly ignorant. No one can tell me what “documentation” I need to prove medically supervised weight loss. Has ANYONE here succeeded in having ChampVA approve their bariatric surgery, and if so, how EXACTLY did you document your proof of medically supervised weight loss? I don’t have any papers from my wife’s docs that state anything SPECIFIC about her failed diets, only that the docs recommended weight loss attempts, and her weight just went up and…

Getting my surgery date next week. Met with surgeon this week and went over all of my pre op appts/ testing. He said my blood work showed borderline anemia... just under normal with both iron and b12. I was hoping to choose RNY. But now hearing I’m at a higher risk for vitamin deficiency after.. should I consider sleeve instead? Has anyone been in a similar position? Did you still go through with bypass, and were you ok with just the regular amount of vitamins recommended?

I was just talking to my therapist when it dawned on me that "bariatric surgery is just like marriage". 1. You spend time looking forward to the day you get married and lose some weight in order to fit into the dress/tuxedo. / Pre-op weight loss 2. Wedding day! The happy day comes when you actually get married and walk down the aisle! / WLS surgery day! 3. Afterwards there is a honeymoon both directly after and during the next year. Everything is new and fresh and you look forward to (almost) every day. 4. You now live together and have to get along for the long run. / Your stomach has changed forever and you have to learn and keep up good eating habit…

So I got the results of my EGD and apparently I have a non-erosive form of acid reflux. Also, biopsy showed questionable Barrett's esophagus which means I might have to have the bypass over the sleeve. I'm trying to come to terms with that possibility but my surgeon put me on protonix to help reduce the acid production of my stomach. I've been on a steady diet of ibuprofen due to some uterine issues and my love of spicy foods may not have worked in my favor for that. Hopefully, he can do the sleeve still, I'm still weirded out by the whole rearranging of organs.

I start my pre op diet on Monday and have been having protein shakes to prep. The thought of the number of protein shakes I am going to have to drink over the next few weeks/months has started to give me anxiety. My concerns are when I have to go to 4oz and sip slowly its going to taste awful from just sitting there. I am mentally preparing to get through these major changes but already feeling obstacles.

Hello everyone, My group health insurance did not purchase the writer for the surgery. I can not do self pay.. or take out another loan. Has anyone purchased their own plan to cover it. I read there are advocates out there but have no idea how to find one. The weightloss center I looked at won't even see me for a consult/write a letter on my behalf without either $500 out of pocket or with insurance. This is frustrating as I have battled weight for most of my life. My dad and his sister have both had gastric bypass and medical conditions associated with obesity. I just want to find a way to make this surgery possible. Any info you guys could give me to assist with …

I’m about to loose my mind over here waiting to see if I will be approved or denied. My biggest concern is that I will be denied for the 2yr weight history requirement. Since I didn’t have insurance in 2017 I have no documentation of my weight, only for 2018. My advocate suggested I write a letter explaining why I don’t have documented weights for that year and submit pictures, I sent 3 with a letter. Everything else should qualify me. 3 month diet Psych eval Upper GI Sleep study BMI 39.6 with High Blood Pressure Talked to my advocate today and she said the coordinator will contact the insurance on Tuesday if they don’t hear anything before then. I have yet t…

So I start my two week liquid and veggie only (steamed, raw or baked) diet on Sunday and I am terrified ?. I went shopping today and got some protein shakes and protein water. Tomorrow I’m going to grab sugar free jello, popsicles, broth and veggies. I’m just super nervous Im scared to death of being hungry I know that sounds weird. But I’m scared that I won’t get through it and I mess up. It’s not about not having faith in myself its about knowing myself. So after saying all of that anything I’m missing that I should grab? Or any tips on how to power through these next two weeks so I can avoid being hangry (hungry and angry) and committing food-icide (food homicide)…

I got the call!!!! I’m APPROVED!!!! Thank God I have stuck to my pre-op liquid diet this whole time!!! It’s so real now! I’m so ready to start this new chapter in my life. If anything’, this pre-op diet definitely put me in the right mindset. Watching everyone celebrate on Easter with tons of food and alcohol didn’t even bother me at all because I wanted this more then anything!!! This is why I know I’m going to take this tool/gift I’m given and do everything I can to succeed!
