I can fully recomend Dr Doug Nicholson @ the Sunnybank Private Hospital. (Sunnybank Obesity Centre) He is very thorough & calls a spade a shovel.

Has anyone gone through New Start at St. Alexius Hospital. I went to a seminar with Dr. Norbert Richardson and am looking into lap band surgery with him but do not find a lot on OH website or Lap Band Talk. Thanks for your comments. Ann

I just started her at lapbandtalk and got a referral from someone on here about Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum in Denver. The price is good and it's a "package", with is nice for me since I'm coming from Alaska and self-pay. Does anyone have experience with him and the surgery facilities he uses? The office staff seem knowledgeable and helpful so far.

I had my Banding done by Dr. Fernando Miranda at Twelve Oaks Hospital in Houston. I chose this doc and this hospital because they are both certified by Bariatric Centers of Excellence. Dr. Miranda is awesome. He told me ahead of time that he takes his time during surgery (mine was over an hour) and has a liberal fill philosophy. I did have to do a 10 day liquid pre-op diet to shrink liver, on which I easily lost mucho pounds. The only thing I did not like about Dr. Miranda's procedure is that immediately after surgery, they woke me up and wheeled me to an xray room where I had to swallow barium and then stand in front of the xray machine... with no meds. Please help. I posted a few days ago about being in extreme pain, and the possibility of needing to have my band removed/fixed. I need the name of a good doctor in my area that can perform this surgery, as I am not able to go back to Mexico for the removal. Please help, and the pain is overwhelming and I need to get this taken care of ASAP. Thanks!

I will like to use this space to let you know about the experience that I had with Dr. Huacuz, on December 08th 2006, so far Im down 80 pounds and I got my life back. My BP is running 190/150 with meds and I am just tired of all of this. I called my insurance company and they said WLS was excluded. When I pressed they said it is occasionally approved because of medical necessity. I weigh a little over 200 and am an incredibly small framed 5' 0" woman. I was planning on trying to self-pay with Kirshenbaum, but really don't want to wait if there is any way I can the surgery approved through my insurance. Also, since I am a teacher, summer is the only time I can get this surgery. Which doctors in Texas are good docs and good about submitting the paperwork that gets approval. Thanks in advance.

I am definitely going to Mexico and Bajanor Obesity Center has a good package. Has anyone used them? Heard anything? My concern is getting fills in Austin. I can't afford to fly to Mexico each time. It is good to hear referrals to US MDs for fills is working out. Is there any resistance to MDs here doing fills for surgeries done in Mexico? How much do they charge here for the fills? Any information is appreciated. :help:

Was anyone banded at Barix in Penn, especially by Dr. Alan Brader. I had my surgery there which went without a hitch. The nurses were awesome but some of the Dr's staff were horrible. If anyone was banded there, please let me know. I have a few questions. Thanks

I don't see his name mentioned often and I must tout his prowess. I had a completely uneventful surgery, felt well cared for and very comfortable. My follow up visit was a smile and a few questions with Dr. and full exam with his outta site PA, Kim. This office has been a dream to work with. Kim has had lap with the best (Ren and Fielding) and loves Dr. Mayer's work (he now does her fills!). He's a very well respected surgeon here in Long Island and only recently (2 years) has been focusing on Lap Band. He does his surgery out of Syosset Hospital (loved) and has an office in a sweet town called Southdown. I'm really loving him! He may be a "newbie" but is a master surgeon…

OK, just found out (again..long story, short) my removal of band will be covered because it is "medically necessary"..however, insurance will only pay up to $2,000 for sleeve, repair, etc. as anything BUT removal is considered obesity-related and "they don't cover obesity-related" surgeries. So, my question to my doctors office (they haven't called me back yet) is...since you are in there anyway removing the band and all the surgery staff is around, and ready and willing, can the dr just repair, insert new one or do the sleeve surgery. I mean, my gosh, how much more can that cost. They are in there anyway!!! I seem to remember reading, and cannot locate right now, som…

Would anyone be able to recommend a good primary care physician in Jacksonville, Florida?

Does anyone know of a doctor in North Florida (Gainesville) who will work with patients who had surgery in Mexico? I had surgery with Dr. Ortiz in May of 2006 and have been doing well (72 lbs gone). I had arranged for post op care prior to surgery, but I have relocated for work, and would prefer to not drive the 3+ hours to that facility. I am concerned that I may have streched my pouch, and would like to follow up with a surgeon. I am new to the area, can anyone help? I am trying to avoid fill center's because I have not heard much positive about them, and I have not had a responce when I tried to get in contact with them.

I had surgery 1.15.07 and have since lost 20 pounds. My lap band experience has been phenomenal, simply because of my doctor. Dr. Zoe K. Deol is located in the Troy-Beaumont area, outside of detroit. If you are looking for a caring, encouraging, friendly, concerned surgeon, she is the person for you. She is amazing and I could not have done this surgery without her support. Hope that helps someone out there ....

I am going to have lapband (if insurance lets me), but I haven't even takled to my doctor yet. My husband says that I have to have a condition, ie...high blood sugar, high blood pressure, before I can get the procedure. My b.m.i is 41. I'm 5'5 and 240lbs. I think I can get it. I know that one of the questions to ask your surgeon is how many lapband procedures he has perfomed, but what is the answer? How many is enough? Here is information I got from the website of the Dr. I am considering. He has a good reputation, and I believe none of his patients have died. I am a little concerned that he has only performed 100 + lapband surgeries. He seems to be very credntialed, and I know several patients that have used him for gastric bypass. I've decided to have lapband surgery in early 2007, but I live in Hong Kong and am considering having it done in Bangkok.
