  2. Hello, If any of you have gone to a Doc in the South Bay/Los Angeles/Long Beach/Orange County areas and only have good things to say about your Doc/experience, could you please let me know? Thanks so much! S4M:)

  3. I'm probably going to be a self-pay b/c my insurance won't cover it. Am considering going to Mexico, obviously, but can already hear the groans and objections from my family and friends. Does anyone know of any Drs. in the US that do the surgery for a similar cost to Mexico (i.e. $10k) preferably near or in VA, but I'm willing to travel. Thanks!

I am new to this forum and was wondering if anyone could give me any information on a couple of doctor's. The first doctor is James Bradley Ray (goes by Brad Ray) out of Bloomington IN. The second doctor(s) is out of Loyola University Chicago. You can actually choose from 2 doctor's there. one is Dr Vafa Shayani and the other is Dr. Sharfi Sarker. I am in the beginning stages and trying to find the right doctor. I actually have a consult set up with each, but would like input from people that have already used one or the other. Thanks for your help!!

  5. My husband and myself just attended a meeting at Rochester General Hospital where Dr. Galvin and Gusmano practice. My husband had the lap-band procedure performed on October 13th. There is a a new CEO at RGH and are right now in contract talks and the physicians are 95% sure on December 15th the bariatric center at Rochester General Hospital will be closing. It is a very sad day. For the patients that are pre op, post op (like my husband) and also the lap banders looking for fills and only one other physician in that area will be doing them. There needs to be some sort of change where the physicians and the hospitals start listening and caring about the people that ar…

Have any of you used him? I am scheduled to have my lapband put on November 20 by him. I tried finding information about him on the Texas Medical Board site, but he is still listed at his last place in Jacksonville, Texas as a general surgeon. I guess I am getting nervous and just don't want to be one of his first bands. I could really use any information you have, because I am a selfpay and will not be able to afford this again, if I have problems. This is my one shot.

I want to let folks know about my surgeon. His name is Dr. Curtis Mosier of Denton. I really like this man. He is very kind and listens to his patients. He is also concerned about other things going on in their lives and does what he can to help alleviate any stress. He is all about helping his patients get healthy!! He has a wonderful patient coordinator named Judy! I can talk to her about anything. They have once a month support groups also. Dr. Mosier and Judy care VERY MUCH about their patients. I have lost 50 pounds since my surgery and feel very good. Dr Mosier has never had any deaths related to his surgery and the only repair he has ever had to d…

  16. Hello, My name is Mollie Smith, and I was banded by Dr. Del la Garza in Monterrey Mexico about 2 months ago. I don't see too many posts about him, so I was wondering if there was anyone else out there that was banded by him so I can have some people to talk to. I also just wanted to just share how please I was with him and the team. I know everyone, thinks Oh my gosh, I can't have surgery in Mexico, but I tell you what, I felt like I was a queen there. They treated me with so much respect and everyone was so nice and friendly. I went through litenfree.com if anyone is interested in a beautiful hospital and a wonderful surgeon. I am trying to narrow down my search to about 3 physicians so I can do some deeper research on their individual practices. Any suggestions for good surgeons in Mexico would be greatly appreciated.

Hi! I'm new here, and trying to decide whether or not to have the lap band surgery. If I decide to go ahead with it, the closest place I could have it done is Brookhaven Hospital, on Long Island, where there is a group of several doctors with a bariatric surgery practice. Do any of you have any experience with any of the doctors in that group or with the hospital itself? I'd really appreciate any information or recommendations you could give me; especially if you'd recommend that I don't have the surgery! If you'd rather keep a comment confidential, please feel free to send it by email to me. Thank you very, very much. I'm thinking that this operation could save my life. …

  34. Hello! I am curious about others' experiences in regards to what role your general doctor played in you getting banded and the whole insurance struggle. In my case, my insurance company and the bariatric program at the hospital need about 5-10 years of medical records showing my weight struggles, which i doubt is uncommon. I called up my doctor and explained to her about the surgery, and then talked to their medical records person about sending the needed info. to the insurance company. They called the insurance for me and found out the specific info. they needed. I told the medical records lady all the personal info. she needed to send off to the insurance company a…

  37. I was just checking out his website and his rates are really reasonable for self-pay. I have really been concentrating on MX, b/c of the reasonable prices. I have seen a couple of doctors on here listed for around $9,500-$10,000. I would definitely be willing to pay the extra $1,000 or so to stay in the U.S. as long as it is a good doctor. I am going to do my research, but would love to hear personal experiences. I am going to e-mail his office today. Thanks!!

I hope I am posting this is the correct area. I have made up my mind to have the lap band surgery. I have been researching surgeons. I would like to know who is good and who isn't... I have read on Dr. Kuri's website (Mexico) that he has done more lap bands than anyone. Although, the sites I have gone to in the U.S., all seem to claim to have performed the most lap band surgeries. Obviously, someone is lying. I can believe that U.S. surgeons have less experience than in other countries due to all our restrictions and regulations in this country. Also, I have an additional concern which is that I have Factor V Leiden, a blood clotting disorder. One of the patient facilitat…
