LapBand and Pseudotumor Cerebri
Melody, Yes I have IH and on meds for the last almost 2 years. After Lumbar punctures and the possiblity of a shunt I decided to go with meds to control it. I have went from 1500 mlgrams of diomox to just 250 -500 mlgrams. It's still there, however, my decission to have the surgery was because of the reccomendation from my doctors. I made the right choice for me. You should discuss it with your doctors and research all aspects of the surgery and IH. How long have you had it? I must say its the best decission I ever made for myself and my heath. P.S. Hoping to come off meds completly withing the next 6 months. We will see.

Pre-op appointments causing surgery delay in Mexico???
I don't know if you have already done the surgery, however all pre ops with Rumbaut are done the day before surgery. If your state side doc requires any testing thats a differant story. The reason I chose Rumbaut is that I did not have to go through much of the requirements that the states require. In addition the cost is less for several reasons. If you feel you must attend a siminar that is your choice. Understand they do preform many tests for the surgery and visits with Nutritionist prior to surgery. They give you lots of info in just a few hours. Good Luck!

dr rumbaut?
I had surgery last thursday with Dr. Rumbaut and there were 6 other women there doing the same. I am very very pleased with him and his staff they are wonderful. Some language issues with the nurses but other than that everything went extremely well. As far as I could tell with everyone else including myself, we were all very very pleased. He is an amazing surgeon and cares for his patients a great deal. I was up and around the same day as surgery and was sleeping on my side the 2 days out. A bit sore still on port side but no major concerns. (knock on wood) I do beleive you have made a wonderful choice with him and if you have any questions please let me know I'll do my best to help.

The Saddest Thing
I agree, My mom works for the school district in Texas, she told me a very disturbing story the other day about the lunch room. (we all know it happens) They normally do about $1000. in sales in the snack bar each day. (not the school plan meals) and they enlarged their snack bar to accomidate the number of students this year. Keep in mind the school is a 3 A school (not very big), however the sales in the first day of school at the snack bar soared to over $3000.00, can you imagine???? If we as parents teach our kiddos good nutrition, and not leave it up to the schools as a babysitter, or demand that Mcdonalds and taco bell be taken out of our schools, (yes in Texas we have fast food places in the schools) we as a nation just maybe can improve our childrens life not only on the outside but the inside too. Please keep in mind at the snack bar, they sell things like pizza, , french fries, cakes, Cookies, icecream, and such. Have we as parents gotten so lazy in our efforts to protect our children that we assume that someone else will look after them or things will work itself out? I remember what got me to this point in my life to have this surgery, is this what I want for my children? The answer is no. Sorry to ramble, but my children are grown now and they are fortunate, they do not struggle with their weight, and I like to think I taught them well or they have seen what has happened to me and my struggle with weight, and choose not to go down this path. I didn't mean to upset anyone and this is not an effort to single out anyone who has children it's just my observation and a collective oppinion. It's our responsiblity! Thanks for listening,

Pseudo Tumor Cerebri Diaged in March 06
Allison, I agree with all the above. The weight loss is suggested to keep it from reoccuring. Not a cure. There is no cure, that I understand. I had many of the same symptoms you had and it was caught quickly. Poked, drained, meds the whole nine yards. Some vision loss here but the meds seem to keep things in check. Doc just reduced my meds because he believes the surgery will aid in the remission process. Hope to get off of them all together soon after. I'll tell you one thing, If I have to have ONE MORE MRI, I'm going to buy my own machine!!! LOL Seems like a good investment to me. Hope that's not the case. I'm happy to hear your doing well. Are you having or have you had the band? I do hope that everything continues to go well for you.

Doing fine here, getting everything ready in the house (pantry) to get started next week on the 2 week liquids, and mushies. I leave for Mexico on Teusday night and Wed will be all pre-ops. Thursday is surgery! Really excited about that part. The weather here in Texas is wonderful. After days and days of over 100 Degree weather, this morning is 69 with a high of 88. Cool weather at my house has a strange effect on the men in my life. Makes them all want to pee off the porch, don't ask ,me why! It's an animal thing is all I can figure. LOL

First and foremost Skinny people are angry and upset all the time, from what I can tell because they are HUNGRY! If they eat something maybe they would be nicer. I never was a barfer, I enjoyed the food too much for that. Force it out of my body No Freakin way! I did find that even though I have an addictive personality, I have seemed to in the past give something up if it was no longer needed. With Food it was another story. I like eating, I like cooking, I like pleasing my family with wonderful creations I made with love in the kitchen. (I did master the perfect Chol Chip Cookie recipie) My kitchen is a test kitchen, always has been, and I suppose always will be. Just not for me to enjoy any longer. Food is an addiction, just like that wonderful feeling we get when we shove that calorie ridden food in our mouth. Will Power? No Way, I just like it. No I love it, but I realized that my love affair, has to end because that relationship is harmful to my health. Just like that boyfriend or girlfriend that can't seem to do anything but give more misery than happiness. My family and friends will continue to enjoy the jewels from my kitchen made with love but that boyfriend of mine (food) has to go. I tried a divorce diet once but did'nt work, and I've been trying to kick Little Debbie out of my house for years, and that bitch keeps commin back. So will power?, guts?, determination?, what ever you call it, or just the love of a family and friends that supports you for your efforts and success and even if you fall from time to time they extend that hand to help you back up. I have at least one all the time. I can and will do it! I'm ready!

Thats an idea, you do know that short people have a law suit against their cities in many states. For building the sidewalk too close to their butts. LOL

SOTC thread...Why NOT to post when your angry
Most of us I'm sure have had some sort of religous influnce in our lives. Mine is as follows: My mom is a non denominational church, My grandparants were Pentecostal My great grandmother was a God fearing Baptist Which I was raised that way. My late husband was a catholic his mother and family were Johova Witness, My current husband is a Presbyterian, one of my sons doesnt really beleive in anything So with all of that education I believe that what ever we choose to believe or not believe in is our own business, we find our own path. For the record, I believe there is something greater than I, maybe that power is within me and I'll tap it one day. Good Love to all

SOTC thread...Why NOT to post when your angry
I'll tell you how they know that in in recent studies, they put a camera in vehicles to record the responses and reactions that people have just before they have a car crash or an accident. 1. In New York it was filmed that a woman driving just befor she crashed said " Oh My God, hold on. 2. California: Oh God, please don't let me die, but in Texas a strange thing was recorded: the driver was recorded and videoed by saying to the passenger just before the crash, "HERE, HOLD MY BEER and Watch this crap" LOL Just kidding, Lighten up folks we all have bad days! Life is too short.....
