hi, it's me again. i'm going to fight and get my surgery even though i'm not covered. i read on the thread about this attorney walter (sorry, i've forgotten his last name) and his team who i may ask for assistance if my doctor's letters won't help. what i'd like to know if anyone on the forum can recommend a surgeon/surgeons here in houston, texas who does this type of surgery and the hospital/hospitals they work. as you can see this is weighing heavy on my heart and i think it maybe a possiblity of a ray of hope that if i do what needs to be done, i might be able to get the procedure. thank you

I'm scheduled to have my surgery at the end of this month at the Heartland Spine & Specialty Hospital in OP, Kansas. Just curious if anyone has been there or has had their procedure there. Dr. Malley is my doctor and the only other hospital he works in is Menorah which is booked up, so I was just wanting to hear anyone's experiences at either place!

I was banded on Jan 29th, 2007. I was a self pay and it cost me $16,500. That incliuded the surgeon, anesthesia, hospital charges, the preop scope, any complications the first 6 months, office follow-ups and all fills for one year. In my case I have done a great deal of research and found what I think are two excellent surgeons, both in Tijuana, Mexico. I was given this link by a family friend who works for a company that rehabilitates doctors and professionals for malpractice. You can go to link, click on "DOCFINDER SEARCHES", then click on your state and find your doctor. It will tell you if the doctor's license is up to date, if he/she has had any complaints or disputes with clients, ect. I thought I was all set with my choice of a Lap Band Dr and now I am at square one again. I was going to use Dr. Steven Tersigni in Coos Bay Oregon but I found out today that due to my High Weight which is 570lbs he requires you to lose 10% of your weight before he will do surgery. That is 57lbs and if I could lose that on my own then I wouldnt be having surgery. I am looking for a new Dr in either Oregon or California or the area who handles High Weight High BMI patients. I had to switch because my insurance wouldn't pay for my original choice, Dr. Olsen at Centennial in Nashville. I chose to go with Dr. McGrath-Weaver in Memphis, and I am so glad I did! No offense meant to folks who had Dr. Olsen as their surgeon, but I just wasn't very comfortable around him, once I had my consult with him. Wondering what your thoughts are if Dr. Clark performed your surgery.

I'm seriously considering getting banded. It's going to be a self-pay, since my insurance does not cover it. I checked locally, and there's no way I'm having it done at the clinic here in town at the price they charge ($19,800 ). There are obviously other options both across the country and abroad. Here's my question: One of my options is a doctor that is about 3 hours from me. Would it be reasonable to expect to do follow-up with this doctor, or would I need to find one locally (not likely, I'm in southern Oregon)? I have read that there are surgi-centers that do lap band surgery with no overnight stay. Does anyone know of any of these surgi-centers on the East Coast. I understand that an over night might be needed if there are complications ( I am an RN).....but I really do not want to stay in the hospital, and would travel to not have too! Thanks, Robin

I have done alot of research and was pleased to find Dr. Carson Liu. BUT my Blue Cross PPO insurance will not cover the procedure to be performed by him. I am really upset about it and can't afford to cash pay. Do you know anyone else in the L.A. area that has done as many lap band procedures and has as few complications as Dr.Liu?

Hi, I'm just at the beginning of all this. I live in VA and this Dr Elariny who operates out of Inova, I believe, belongs to a bariatric group. Has any one heard of him ? I'm going to a meeting next week at the Inova Fairfax hospital Any input would be appreciated. My BMI is only 33 but I have back problems because of a bad car accident my legs are numb, I have a plate in my neck and my neck makes it worse. I was just wondering if any of you have any experience with doctors in the NC area? I go to school in Raleigh and live here most of the time, but my parents live in Greensboro and I would be staying with them post-op.
