Hi all! I have been through the forums but some of the topics are a bit old - I was wondering if Brisbane people could tell me which surgeon they used for a sleeve? I had recently been with Dr Baxter from the Sunshine Coast, but I have moved to brisbane and would love to know who people have gone with, as well as costs and how it all went? THANK YOU

Keep in mind this is based on my personal experiences so far. If yours were different or you have more to add, please chime in! No particular order: 1a. UIC's info session was short and to-the-point, highlighting the essentials. 1b. The Kane Center seminar was thorough and over two hours long. For someone who has already done a lot of research and spent time in the forums here it would be almost 100% redundant. But I did like that they brought in four post-op patients for unscripted testimonies/Q&A. The surgeon also showed footage of the actual procedures being done (bypass, band, and sleeve). 2a. Just found out my Anthem doesn't cover bariatric . I'm looking to see what other Hoosiers did. Did anyone self pay at St Vincent? If so, what was cost. We are north, so even Chicago, South Bend, ft Wayne are options. Thank you!!

Hi everyone, I am new and super scared for surgery. I have so many fears such as being allergic to general anesthesia and having crazy complications. I have never had surgery before and it seems that weird things always happen to me. I am having Dr. Chae preform my surgery. He did the lap band on my mom and my friend 5 years ago. He also did my friends mom's gastric bypass. All three are still successful today. Has anyone had a sleeve done by him? How was it? Complications? I am going through Kaiser. I hear he is awesome, but I would like to connect with some people sleeved by him. I'm 27, 5'5 and 306lbs. Due to be sleeved in November.

Hello, all. I currently live in Ohio and have gone to a seminar at Ohio State University to learn more about my options for bariatric surgery. My insurance told me that I was eligible, so I started looking into it. It seems my insurance requires a 9-month physician supervised diet before I can do anything else. I have been dieting on my own since March, but that doesn't count toward my 9 months. I will be moving to the Spokane, Washington area next June and was wondering if anyone out there has any insight on doctors/facilities, etc. in the area that they would recommend for me to check out when I get settled in. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Linda

I have my first appointment with Dr. Weaver this Wednesday at St. Francis. Anyone had the sleeve done by Dr. Weaver? What was your experience with him? Were there any complications? I want to know the pros and cons please.

I am considering Dr Lancaster in Wichita KS for my gastric sleeve. I'm looking for feedback on what others' experiences have been with him or anyone else in his surgical group.

Anyone use him? I can't seem to find reviews, positive or negative on him. I find lots of really good reviews of Dr. Jawad, but I like Dr. Teixeira, and haven't met Dr. Jawad. I am thinking he must be pretty good, or Dr. Jawad wouldn't have him working for him. But I'd feel better finding a few reviews! (this is Andre Teixeira, not Julio Teixiera, who has lots of reviews)

Hi all! I'm meeting with the dr who I hope will become my surgeon, along with the nutritionist, on August 18th. I don't have any health conditions, so insurance won't cover and I will be paying for the surgery out of pocket. In that case, how long does it take between consultation and surgery date? What will it take for me to be approved? What kind of things will I need to do/tests will I need to have? A lot of people of mentioned a pre-op diet-how long are you usually on that? Has anyone used Dr. Shillingford, specifically as a self pay patient? I have my initial phone consult with him on Wednesday, and don't know what to expect. I'm traveling out of state because the cost is too high in my state for self pay. Hello: I'm a former bandster that has had a bit of a history with band. First (small) band July 2007. Slipped and revised to larger band July 2010. Then, band eroded and removed July 2013. So, my fabulous Lap Band Surgeon just recently started doing sleeves. I think he's done less than 20 at this point, but he just started six months ago. He's done thousands of bands. He recommended that I go and see Dr. Nepomnayshy for a consult prior to proceeding with the sleeve to see if he thinks I should be sleeved, and if so, should I be sleeved by someone with more experience because I may have scar tissue due to two bands and erosion. I am in the pre-op phase but so far I am very impressed with my surgeon, Dr. Richard Peterson, and his staff. He is a University of Texas Health Science Center (UT Health) doc. The program is a joint venture of UT Health and CHRISTUS Santa Rosa (where I work). His staff is very efficient, and he is a wonderful listener and takes a lot of time talking with you about the surgery. He also did two tours in Iraq, which makes me respect him all the more. If you are thinking of SA as your surgery location, I recommend you consider Dr. Peterson. You can find him via google and they also have some videos about the program on youtube.

Hi, I'm scheduled for sleeve on Tuesday @ Lenox Hill. I'm super excited but just wondering what to expect! What was it like waking up there? Did you go right to your room or were you in a post operative room at first? Did you have a private or shared room? What was that like & did you have anyone staying with you? Currently waiting for gastric bypass procedure , I have an appointment in September which will involve me having a comprehensive medical inc seeing the Anethetist , weigh myself meet the nurse , surgeon , blood tests and psychiatric evaluation . Does any one know roughly the time between going to this evaluation and the operation itself as still have not received a surgery date yet and thought there might be a time frame that can't be exceeded between the evaluation and actual surgery inc pre op diet . Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone had their surgery done, or going through the process with any of the bariatric doctors at magee in Pittsburgh? The reason I ask, is because I am about done with all of my pre op tests, weigh ins, etc and found out that my doctor is moving away. I am very disappointed and now I have to pick a new doctor. I don't know who to pick because I don't know any of them. My current dr. did both of my Mothers surgeries (she had sleeve then went to bypass and had some complications.) So, I am very familiar with my current dr. I have, randomly, picked one of the other doctors, but I am having a hard time with the dr.s PA. Anyone have any input?

I am located in Southern Maryland. I am just beginning the investigation process. Tomorrow I am attending my first weight loss seminar in Fairfax, VA. My wife and I are driving 68 miles (that's at least a 90 minute drive in our traffic) to Inova Fair Oaks Hospital. My doctors here in Maine are just dragging me along for almost a year now I have been trying to get a revision done as my band is no longer functional and they keep telling me to do more dietitian appointments (already have over 15 done) they just say I am to anxious to have the revision done but gosh who wouldn't be. I have started looking into going to Mexico to have this done instead of waiting for who knows how long from my current doctors. Has anyone had a revision done in Mexico? If so where did you have it done and what was your experience like? I am super nervous about going to a different country to have surgery.

Hello, has anyone experienced extreme stomach pain like cramps? I had the sleeve done in Feb 2013. I weighed 220 now I'm 120 and I'm so much happier. But six months or so after the surgery and ever since then, I get cramps that hurt very bad. I have to curl up in a ball because standing or laying down is out of the question. I really should go to the ER but I don't have the strength. I called my Dr when it first happened and I had my gallbladder tested but it was ruled out. When it first occurred, it happened every few months. Now its almost monthly. I have an appt with my Dr 8/20 but was wondering if others had the same thing happen to them? I've tried researching online…

It looks like with all of the exclusions my insurance has for the sleeve, there is no way I will qualify, so I'm now looking at self-pay. The Dr. I had a consult with charges $16,500 plus co-pays, lab, etc. There is no way, even if I got a loan. So now I'm looking at other options. My husband is not comfortable with me going to Mexico but I am considering it. I live in Oklahoma, is there anyone near here that has lower fees? It's hard to decide to go to another country for surgery when you have never stepped foot in the office until the day before surgery. Seems a little scary!!
