Im just starting with the gastric sleeve journey. I talked with my PCM and we have both decided this would be good for me. I want to have the surgery at Keesler but I need a doctor who does the surgery. Has anyone had this procedure done at Keesler? And who did you use or how did you find your doctor? Im so new to this and Im a little lost. lol I have tricare prime and I know if I want to be covered for this surgery I will have to go to a MTF. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

I lost 90 pounds on my own about 4 years ago and still have 70 to go. My Doctor denied my request for gastric sleeve and I'm looking into going to Mexico for it. Any suggestions for choosing a Dr would be great. I have researched Ponce and Altimarano. Please advise! I'm worried about medical tourism but would like actual testimonials! Thanks!!

I checked for docs in Canada & found one thru smart shape but it's 18,000 not including taxes, airfare (cheaper to go to the U.S. Instead of Toronto), hotel & nurse (I need a caregiver for over 48 hours). So - just a random post. I was sleeved by Dr. Ponce 9/30/2015. I will be honest; I was very, very apprehensive about having surgery outside the US. After a year and a half of jumping through hoops, a year of trying to get staff at my primary care Drs office to get the correct documentation to the surgeons office, my approval was received in less than 24 hours. Unfortunately my spouse is scheduled for an urgent spine surgery the first week of November so now I will have to put off until probably Feb 2016. I'm going through the process with this hospital. He had pretty good reviews on the lapband forums and doesn't charge a huge program fee like other doctors in the area. However, I am now leaning towards VSG than lapband and I was wondering if anyone had him as their surgeon. So I don't know if it's me and the apprehension of this surgery but I was looking for a doctor in the Ventura area to perform LAP-BAND® surgery (and it seems that in Ventura and all of LA there are very few!!) Maybe it's me but something seems off to me having a seminar with multiple people, and what seems to be such a revolving door and sales pitch for the surgery...and this seems common with weight loss surgery for ANY doctor I've found. Unfortunately, surgery wont be covered by insurance so i need to find a surgeon in south florida (miami/ ft lauderdale). Has anyone had the sleeve done is south florida? Ohhh goodness i went to my orientation today got so much information ive been reading most of the day and i couldn't be any happier i am changing my life for the better!!! I meet with my surgeon on oct 15th i actually met him my nutritionist and my case manager today!!! Fron start to finish this process was not as long as i thought it would be. I got referred about two weeks ago im already moving along!!!

First time post, be gentle! I have settled on the sleeve and that I will have it done in the Dallas area. I am having a hard time picking a surgeon. It is really hard to find solid information on them. Of course everyone loves their Dr (assuming they didn't have problems) and their websites all say they are great. Is there an unbiased source for true numbers such as how many procedure completed and complications? How do you educate yourself and make the choice? By the way, I am a self-pay (insurance excludes WLS) so I don't care about insurance issues and such. Thanks for your input. I welcome all responses about Dr's in the DFW area.

They did fine handling the insurance verification part, if a bit slow. Once I got approval from my insurance company, they told me my surgeon would be Dr. John Marsden here in Dallas. I am starting my WL journey at NAS Jacksonville. I was wondering if anyone is having surgery here, who is your surgeon, and what are your thoughts on their Bariatric program. I already have had my first appointment with General Surgery and waiting on the Bariatric Coordinator to call me back.The doctor who I saw and I don't remember his name was pushing hard towards the band. I am a self pay patient, as my insurance does not cover Bariatrics. I am interested in going to Puget Sound Surgical Center for Bariatrics in Edmonds, WA. The doctor I prefer is Dr. Peter Billing. My total cost for the VSG or LSG is $17,400. My pre-op apts such as Dietician, Physiologist & Mental Health will run about $930 (with my insurance paying for some of that). So I am looking at right around $18,000. Has anyone gone to Puget Sound Center and had Dr. Billing? If so, please let me know what your thoughts are on all aspects -- I would love to hear from you! Hi! Is there anyone that has chosen Dr. Stephan Myers at the Weight Management Center thru Reading Health System, Reading PA? I went to the required seminar to start the ball rolling on 8/6. As of today, 8/25, I still have not heard from them. I emailed both the Patient Representatives, one of them twice, as they advised us to do rather than calling. After no response I did call one of them and left a msg on her voicemail. Maybe this is normal to wait this long to be contacted after the seminar, I don't know. I just feel like 3 weeks have been wasted, and wondering if anyone else has had this problem with them. Thanks!
