I started this almost 2 years ago. Had surgery a year ago in November. As the weight came off the wounds of a crap marriage became exposed. I ended that crap marriage in July and today live on my own. I have my daughters half the week and now they get a much more at peace mom. I've dated a bit and it still shocks me anyone would/could find me attractive. My hope is that my ears will hear it enough for my brain to catch on. Today I went snowboarding for the first time in my life-to get my kids outside AND because I actually could do it. These seem like random thoughts but honestly if this is a dream don't wake me. I feel like I'll be having the first Christmas in a long…

Hi all! I am excited to announce that I have gotten approved by insurance for my surgery date of January 13, 2016. Now that I have insurance approval I can finally breathe for the first time since starting this journey. My current weight is 277 and I am a 5'4, 21 year old female. I love reading other people's success stories hoping that I too can be successful. This may sound crazy, but my surgeon does not require a preop diet. I just can't eat after midnight the night before. I feel like I am already cheating by not needing the diet. Now that my surgery is less than a month away I am trying to be more conscious of my eating habits, and I'm trying to refrain from drinking…

I had the gastric sleeve done March 2011 and had great success with it. But for the past five months I've put on about 12 pounds. I have increased my work out routine and changed my eating habits. I previously had no trouble maintaining now it appears as though I cant even lose five pounds. I would always go up and down between 1-5lbs and have never been at a rate that I am now. I blame it on my eating habits. I'm constantly snacking and seems as though I'm always hungry so I'm stuffing my face every two hours. I still can't eat much. Don't know what my caloric intake is never really measured it. I need help what would other veterans do?

Hey guys! I am new here. I had my robotic gastric bypass 10/6/15 and all went well. My highest weight was 250 lbs (BMI 44) and I hovered around this weight for a good five years. I was extremely unhappy with my appearance, I had no energy and became short of breath easily with exertion, the knee pain was excruciating at times. I adopted a son almost two years ago and was determined to become healthier for my family and myself. After yo yo dieting since the second grade (yes my first diet was when I was eight years old), I finally had enough and realized I needed help. I spoke with my PCP, expressed interest in the gastric sleeve and she referred me to our local hospital's…

I had my RNY surgery on 10/7/2015, as a birthday present to myself (DOB 10/23). I decided it was time for me to get my life and health on track. I peeked at 350 lbs, had shortness of breath just walking into work and constant knee pain. I made the decision in July to start loosing weight and to finally look into wgt loss surgery; prior to that I could not put the effort into the life change and I also thought I should not need this tool to help me lose weight. I went to 2 different informational sessions, which changed my mind on needing the weight loss surgery. The physician I wanted to see was booked solid in July so I couldn't get into his until August; I booked an …

Hello! I actually just stumbled upon this page tonight looking for general information, and I'm happy I did. I can already tell this is a wealth of information. I'm 28 years old, married with a 2 year old daughter. I've been overweight for most of my adult life, but only within the last few years has it really gotten out of control. I had been successful with many efforts to lose weight, such as basic calorie counting and portion control, exercise, and (especially) the Atkins Diet. I say successful but with that caveat, it was only at losing weight. Eventually, the pounds came back, and they usually brought friends. Almost 2 years ago, I went to the doctor for a rout…

I had my gastric bypass 10 days ago and I have had nothing but struggle. Day 3 postoperative I started with a fever was discharged on day 5 and vomiting everything I drink and everything I ate on postoperative 7/8 and 9 days. My abdomen has been very itchy no matter what I wear what lotion I put on or what soap I use. I have lost 12 pounds since surgery.

Another user posted a thread about her mother and their awful relationship due to fat shaming. It made me think a thread on this subject could be therapeutic to some of us. First off I want to say, I LOVE my mom. She is a wonderful person and I forgive her. She has her own body image issues and I forgive her. My mother has tortured me about my weight almost my whole life. It started when I was 11 and she put me on a diet for being a little tiny bit chubby and taking second helpings. This was the first time I thought of myself as fat and I became very insecure. Whenever I would see my mother she would ALWAYS have a comment about my weight, first thing out of her m…

Hello my name is Dona. I am 53 years old, married going on 26 years. I have one son that is 25 years old. I started my journey in January of this year. I was 262 lbs and miserable, so my personal Dr. approved me for for Bypass surgery.I went to 2 seminars and one support group. It took me a long time to really get serious about the surgery mentally and physically. Anyway, I just had my Bypass Surgery on Nov. 30th of this year. I was scared, but I finally made the decision to get out of my rut that I was in. The last 2 weeks have been hard. I got through the pain and now I am starting on the Stage 3 plan. I have lost 17 lbs. Now I have to get in the process of exercis…

I had a gastric sleeve done on 12/23. I showed up at the hospital at 11AM and was driving home by 5PM. Once I walked and passed the pee test they took the IV out and sent me on my way. I was Ina good bit of pain yesterday. I would say I was about a seven. After walking a good bit yesterday and today I am around a 4. Still pretty bloated and tender. I am working on getting my water in now. Takes a while when you are drinking 2 ounces every 15 minutes. I got about 40 grams of protein today, but hope to up that tomorrow. I will start sooner in the day. Other than general discomfort I'm not, doing to bad. That's my story for today. I will try and update as things …

Update....on gastric sleeve done 12/22/2015...stayed over night, and only felt nausea when i awaken from surgery, until they medicated me, plus had to get up and walk every 4 hours, Not too much problem getting in and out of bed, just due to the I.V. being in the way, no problems with walking as it did help gas pains. I felt like i could drink more but when i sipped two medicine cups i felt pain so stopped for 15 min. Everything was nasty to me but water..when my husband brought me home yesterday I needed a few items from grocery store that I knew he would prob forget so I went inside with him to get the exercise...lol, which was not bad at all. last night was the first …

For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to post something in the Update section. I wanted to mention that today 12/23/2015 is my second anniversary for my sleeve. It's been a lot of hard work and sacrifice to get where I am, but I tell you what.......I am healthier than I have even been in as an adult. This is not just about losing weight, it's about improving your quality of life.

I am new at all of this. I decided to have surgery in October so I contacted a surgeon for an appointment. I can't get in until January of 2016. So I decided to start the process to get a jump on my requirements for approved surgery. I've been on Adipex for 3 months with a doctor. And now I am on a PCP supervised medical weight diet. I am hoping I will have 5 months completed by the time I see the surgeon. Did anyone have problems getting approved through BCBS of Minnesota? I have their bariatric policy so I know what I have to do. I'm just so nervous about getting approved. I want this more than anything.

Hi, It's been a long time since I have been on this site. I had my VSG 5 years ago in May. Since then I lost 100 lbs, had a baby finished my degree, started a new job, lost my father (not all in that order) and now I have gained 32lbs. I'm sure my habits (junk food, wine, coffee etc.) have creeped back in due to the stress of those issues. Today getting on the scale and seeing the number was a shock that I needed to get me back in line with support and with a plan that works. Is there anyone who can direct me to the right support feed for those who have gained and are 5 or so years out? I know that I need to start somewhere and support is key. And my fear is…

Greetings! I wanted to share a breif story about myself. My husband had the lap band surgery done two years ago. I was not ready at that time. I had many reservations and doubts from other readings and opinions from other people. After trying different techniques on my own. I was not having success. I wanted instant results and able to decrease my cholesteroyl. I decided as a new year resoluton to talk to Dr. DeBarros at Weight Loss Institute of Arizona. Dr. Debarros is very helpful catering to my needs and listening ot my concerns. I am so happy with the results and will continue to follow the diet plan and implementing a consistent exercise plan. Thank y…

Ok, maybe not a big thrill to anyone but me, but I can now look down and actually SEE my bellybutton. I'm only down 17.6 pounds but it seems to all have come off the roll of fat above the bellybutton level. TMI? I am stoked. Doesn't take much to get me going, evidently. Also off blood pressure medication (had been on since age 25). And now completely off both Lantus and Humalog insulins. Why didn't I do this years ago? As one of my hero dog people says, the past is the past. Live in the NOW.

I had my 6 month check up today and the dr was running late which was annoying. Then he walks in the door saying "Well.....you haven't lost much". I was upset. I started my journey Jan 8, 2015 at 265. Surgery was June 15(sleeve) and I was 240. Today I weighed in at 186. I was happy with how I look and feel, I think I still am I am just upset that the Doctor would walk in the door saying that. I start tonight with my personal trainer and I am going to take out my frustrations on him and in my workout!! Why would a doctor say such a thing!!! Plus I was having some pain on my right side which is wrist when I work out and I don't want to stop working out to wait the six…

Hello everyone, my name is Cristian, and I'm currently 3 days post op from my sleeve being done. In my spare time, I managed a small video game related Youtube channel and sense the surgery, I've had the idea to create a video series on my journey through the surgery and life after the sleeve. I know in my own personal decision making process, youtubers who had done something very similar were an EXTREMELY big part of my decision to move forward with my surgery. Most of them haven't posted a new video in nearly 5 years, so I figured I'd pick up the mantle and try to help other people like they helped me with more recent videos and information. My second video should be go…

Well, my sleeve/hernia repair was completed on Monday, December 14th. It was very late in the day - I think the actual surgery started at 4:16pm (had been scheduled for 2:45pm). I don't remember much of anything from that day. I remember pre-op and being rolled into the OR, moving onto the table, getting hooked up to stuff, and nothing after that. I don't remember them even telling me they were starting the anesthesia. After the procedure, I vaguely remember my fiancé and parents talking to me and saying goodbye for the night, being in pain, not being able to open my eyes, and my pacemaker being checked. I do not remember going to my room at all. During the night, …

When I first started the journey to a new healthier me my nut ask me what were some of my goals. My goals??? Ok well... I want to be able to tie my shoes. She just kind of looked at me all funny. So I explain and shoe her my shoes. They were tied (of course, I know how to tie my shoes) but the were tied to the side. I could not and would not bend over my big belly to tie my shoes cause it would get smashed and make it hard to breath so I would hike my foot up on my leg and tie it to the side. My surgery was on the 22nd of June I have lost 70 pounds and to be honest I don't see that big of diff when I look in the mirror, and I am already forgetting all the things I use to …

Hi, I'm a 49 year young mom from NJ. I just had my Sleeve done on 10/6/15 at St. BARNABAS Hosp in Livingston , Nj. By Dr. PRAKASH Paraghi from West Orange nj. I went there weighing approx. 300lbs and now at my four week point I am 250 lbs. I feel great! I'm walking nand going like never before. I'm very happy I made this change

When I told my closest friend of 30 years that I was going through the process to get Gastric sleeve bypass she fell silent. I knew she wasn't happy about it. I've always weighed less than her and to her that meant I didn't need to lose more than she was willing to. I have been working with my Fitbit for about 2 years now and have had MS diagnosed since 2007. I developed gestational diabetes which turned into Type 2 diabetes. Despite changes to my diet and exercise my health is declining. My doctor recommended the surgery. Now, I have tamped up my health regimen and my husband bought me a new Fitbit scale. She became livid that he would waste 120 dollars on a scal…

My surgery was six months ago, and I have had a flawless recovery so far, no complications, no dietary intolerance, a near 80lb. weight loss and feeling AMAZING. However, I've been taking photos every three months since my Surgery (May 6th), and looking at the latest photo, I was so disappointed. All I saw was cellulite, and I felt a little down. Then I went back to the photo I took a few days before my surgery and went WHOAAAA!! Every step forward is success, this hard work and we should never lose sight of our successes no matter how small. Don't lose heart!! I'm including the photos from 0, 3, and 6 months post surgery.

Sleeved on 7/29. Had the 3 month slow down, went 3 weeks without losing, but in the end did lose weight. BUT for the past 7 weeks I have lost 2-3 lbs. Some may say it is still losing, but really? I am eating 1200 calories a day, tried eating less but that did not work because if made me sick. Before surgery if I ate 1200 calories I would lose 2-3 lbs a week. I am just tired of the counting and measuring and being hungry (I do get hungry) and seeing no progress. I am coming up on my 5 month anniversary. Was 245 pre-surgery, 237 the day be surgery and am about 199 now (changes every day from 198-200). I feel that my body set a new set point at 200 and I am only 1…

Hello! I'm new to this forum but am POD2 of RNY. Other than feeling like I just did 1,000 crunches, I feel pretty good. I'm looking forward to helpful tips on making the journey a little easier. Right now I'm just trying to get a schedule figured out for my stage 1. A little bit about me: name is Jared. Pre-op weight was 397. Lost 17 lbs on 2 wk liquid pre-op diet. I've been a big guy since I was 8. Been through several rounds of WW, Atkins, personal trainers, etc. All with the same story of return of weight with a vengeance. I live in KCMO with my wife and 4 year old daughter. My tipping point was the realization of how selfish it is for me NOT to want bariatric…

Today I decided to wear a new dress to work (yes I occasionally wear dresses now!). This particular dress is a little shorter than I would normally feel comfortable in. It's from the Juniors section and you know how they like their dresses/skirts a good 3 inches shorter than normal. Anyway, this is a "winter" dress and I knew I would always be wearing it with leggings or tights, so I decided short was okay. However, walking into work from the car this morning, I was feeling a little self-conscious about the length, so I was using my bag to cover my butt. This gave me a total flashback to pre-sleeve when I used to use my bag to try to cover my butt for a totally differen…

Hi all I got sleeved September 29, 2015. Losing weight and finally starting to show it! I wore pants yesterday that i had bought 5 yrs ago as a one of these days apparel... I have one more pair of pants that is a few sizes smaller that is the same category of one of these days..... Incentive there! One of the big issues im having still is misjudging portions....another im having is medical and is linked to the reason why i had the sleeve procedure done. When i misjudge i feel really uncomfortable and purge instead of dealing with it and risking having my stomach expand... And it seems i misjudge the most on red meats... No i dont purge everyday its when i have misjudge…

Hi. My name is Angie and and I had my Sleeve with the Nicholson Clinic in Dallas. So far I'm a slow loser. Only down 12 pounds. However I see a lot of changes in inches. I go back to work tomorrow and I'm nervous nobody will be able to see a difference. I was very open about my Journey to people. Everyone has been really supportive. We'll I hope I have more to report within a few weeks. I'm going to see doctor for a follow up tomorrow. Hopefully they take me off full liquids and move me to the next phase.

I haven't been one to post, but I have really enjoyed reading all of the success stories on here. Yesterday, I met with my surgeon and got my surgery date. January 6th! What a way to start the new year. I am excited but the nervousness has really begun to hit. I was hoping that he would recommend either the sleeve or bypass, but he didn't seem to be pushing either way. So, in order to get the greatest results, I chose bypass. I am excited for the future and what it may hold, but I am sure my emotions will be all over the place this month. Anyone else in a similar position? I would love to connect!!!!! ☺

I have not had surgery yet, I must first do 6 months with a nutritionist the 18th will be my 2nd visit. I have only told a few family members about my surgery plans, and after surgery I don't plan on telling people. I don't want to lie to ppl, but don't really feel it's their business. So my question is... when you do begin loosing weight what did you say? Or if you chose to tell people what was their reaction? Thanks in advance!!
