How soon after surgery did you eat out? Not just soup, but a "normal" meal. Obviously, in a small, appropriate portion.

I got the gastric sleeve on May 10th and just recently about 3 or 4 days ago I have started feeling a burning feeling on my throat after I eat anything. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know why I am getting this?& is there anything to relieve this pain? Ty

Let me start by saying I know stalls are normal. I know it won't drop off over night. I know this is a process, and I must trust it. But I can't help thinking that I might be doing something wrong here?? I am 7-8 weeks post op, and since my three week stall ? I will lose half a pound, then stay that weight for a week or longer, then loose half a pound, then stay that weight. This has been happening for over a month, and it is so frustrating! I haven't seen anyone else have something similar to this happen. The only thing on my plan that I haven't completely 100% followed is working out consistently. I walk as much as I can, daily, but haven't…

It started yesterday (Sunday). I woke up, and my palms were super itchy. Within 20 minutes, my arms and armpits started. And it spread to the rest of my body. I then started to get red bumps. I immediately thought I'm having an allergic reaction to something. Only I hadn't ingested anything or touched anything; remember, I woke up this way. I didn't have any liquid benadryl, and we needed to get ready to leave for church. So, I took a shower, and that helped some, and within a couple hours, it stopped. Now, today, Monday, it's starting all over again. I was reading that sometimes ketosis can cause itching because of the ketones in the sweat. So maybe that. I don't know. H…

Hi. I had sleeve yesterday and was released to home this afternoon. I currently drinking 2 oz of Gatorade zero with protein every 30 min and will switch to broth shortly with unflavored protein. Any advice to get this gas out? How do I know when to take the med RX for stomach cramping. I’m not sure if it’s gas or new stomach adjusting. Thanks all :). Scared but excited for this journey. The gas pain is intense.

Hey All! I am exactly 1 week post op today. Sleeved 5/22/2023 I am currently on full liquids. Allowed cream soups - watered down with water/skim milk. I feel like everything is making me cramp. As soon as it goes down, I’ll cramp for like a second and it goes away. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this the normal healing process? I don’t know if it’s me taking too much in too fast - I will literally wait a few minutes to try more and still cramp. I’m sipping. Taking things slow but… cramps! This may be completely the norm and something that gets better with time.. just thought I’d ask the community and hear your experiences. Thank you so much!

I'm about 4 weeks out and I hate eating! I'm not getting my proteins regularly, sometimes I get close, but some days are better then others, everything I eat for the most part makes my stomach feel icky and I don't really want to eat, I can take maybe 2 or 3 bites of something and I'm done, I don't think I'm eating enough. I can't do shakes they are absolutely disgusting the last time I ate tuna fish I think I over did it and I threw up so I'm scared to try that or any other fish for that matter again, I can do string cheese but c'mon how much can I eat that lol, other then the fact that I'm not really eating I feel fine should I be worried?

Hello everyone, I finally got to have my surgery this passed Monday. I had a vertical sleeve done. Pre op I went from 255.9 to 239.6 so very excited for that. Sadly that's not the reason I'm writing today. Sorry in advance this may get TMI. So for me it is day 4. I called my nurses because I had only been on water this whole time and just felt awful. They told me to just rest get some protein water and apple juice because even though I was following the liquid diet to the letter my body needs those to function. What I wasn't warned about was the bathroom issues. I literally take a sip and almost instantly to and hour later I'm upstairs with bad bath…

Hi guys, I need your advice! I am going on holiday to the US (Nevada, Utah & Arizona) and other than suuuuper excited, I am also really nervous about eating there and could really use you guys’ help. My surgeon gave me the strict guideline of never eating anything that is over 5 grams of sugar per 100 grams. I have followed this to a T so far and want to continue to do so on holiday as well. In the EU (where I live) there’s an ingredient breakdown at the back of the package with ‘xx g carbs, of which xx g sugar’ per serving size AND per 100g. So I’ve been using that to check everything I buy! Is there a similar thing in the US? If so, I’m guessing it won’t be in g…

JUST THROWING THIS OUT THERE FOR THE NEW PEOPLE. I AM 11 MOS OUT TODAY AND I'VE ONLY HAD THE SLIMES ABOUT 3 TIMES. FROM EATING SOMETHING TOO TOUGH OR DRY OR EATING A BITE TOO MUCH, ANYWAY I DID IT TODAY WHICH WOULD BE THE THIRD TIME. I WAS EATING OUT WITH FRIENDS AND TALKING AND ATE TOO MUCH NOT THINKING. ANYWAY I POPPED A PC OF GUM, THAT MADE ME SWALLOW SALIVA WHICH GAVE ME THE HORRIBLE FULL FEELING IN MY CHEST AND MADE ME SLIME. SO AS SOON AS I COULD GET AWAY I STARTED SPITTING THE EXTRA SALIVA OUT. I KNOW THIS IS GROSS BUT IF THIS HAPPENS IT SURE CAN BRING YOU RELIEF FASTER...THE MORE OF THAT SALIVA YOU SWALLOW THE WORSE YOUR PAIN AND MISERY IS GOING TO BE. JUST WISH S…

Little bit about me... Had the lap band in spring 2007 after hitting a high of 450... dropped down in to the 320s... stalled, had some different life issues cause some emotional issue... needless to say I bounced back up nearer to the 380s at one point. Settled in around 360 and decided to go get a revision to DS... which was Friday. Weight at surgery was right about 360. Stepped on my home scale this morning... 338.4. It's a lot in a short time. I feel like a million bucks, though. I've taken minimal painkillers other than tylenol in the last couple days. Woke up with some pain in the center of my back and couldn't really get comfortable after that... so I took one…

I am 5 days post op RNY. Surgeon said everything went great. Pain has subsided all except when going from sit to stand or sit to prone and vice versa. Pain as well when coughing or sneezing. Fluid and protein going down and staying down no problem. Can’t get comfortable to sleep. Normal? I feel like I’m ripping in half when I try to lay on my side.

Sorry for signing up and then immediately posting something TMI. I've been lurking for a while but signed up to ask/vent about this issue, since my bariatrics office is closed on weekends and I can't talk to my surgeon until Monday. So I had my sleeve done on the 2nd of this month. All went swimmingly. This past Monday I had my one week post-op and again, everything went swimmingly -- except for my pulse. My pulse measured 143 and I was admitted to the ER and eventually placed inpatient as it was determined I'd developed acute metabolic acidosis. Okay, that's my bad, thought I'd been consuming enough water but I guess not. Once my bicarbonate levels were normal again…

I've read on here that being cold all the time can happen for some, but this early? I'm just over 2 weeks out, and I'm freezing all the time. I sleep in my winter slipper socks and a fleece shirt, and I'm still cold. Blankets on all day. Heat turned on in the car. Is this normal this early?

How long should I expect my abdominal area to be swollen? I also find that it swells throughout the day. For example, I put on my jeans in the morning, and they fit great. By the afternoon, they are tight. Same with the band on my bra. My RNY was May 1st, so almost 2 weeks.

Got my results from the colonoscopy. What they removed was 2 adenomas. 1 medium and 1 large. Stage 1 cancer. No further treatment needed since there was no chance for it to spread since it was caught and removed so early. Need to be watched closely with more frequent colonoscopies to make sure it doesn't come back. I also have to have a small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) test done in the next week or so. All my stomach polyps came back pre-cancerous but benign. Now I have to have a large uterine fibroid removed and tested and see a colorectal specialist for 2 other...things...removed. Then another endoscopy to check my stomach to see if polyps have come bac…

It's happened several times in the last week, I get extremely weak and lightheaded- like I'm going to pass out. The first time was walking up the stairs and then it happened again today in the shower. I've been walking, so it's not every time I am active. I'm thinking of either blood pressure or lack of fluids. Is this normal? Should I talk to my team? I'm almost a week out from rny

Hi, I had a sleeve on 4/25. Still on protein shake and clear liquid diet. I haven’t lost any weight in the last 3 days. Doing everything right, walking 30 min, having my protein shakes. Still working on getting my liquids to at least 64 oz. Having around 45-50 oz a day. Scale is not moving! Any suggestions?

It sucks to not see the scale moving. It makes me feel like im failing. I know it's normal, but ahh! I only lost 39.5 pounds since surgery (2/21/23). What could I be doing wrong? What could I do to get it moving again? Am I eating too many calories? I don't even know how many calories I'm supposed to be having. I don't have anything in my papers. One things for sure, a lot of stuff doesn't feel like I get restriction? The only thing I can't eat really so far is bread, pancakes/waffles. That I know of. I know each meal is supposed to be 3 to 4 ounces. How do you guys figure out your entire meal size. 2oz protein, 1 ounce veggies, 1 ounce starch? U…

There is so many amazing new qualities I love about sex after surgery. I do have to say there are some down sides too. Please share with me your good and bad experiences about post op sex. I'm really struggling trying to find a doggy style position that won't shatter my tale bone, my junk in the trunk is limited since losing over 200 lbs, to be honest lol. I would love to get some feed back and maybe some advice.

Hi everyone! I’ve posted about this before but I just wanted to ask again as I’m further in on my post surgery hair loss journey. Does anyone have any tips for handling it? Also, how long did it last for you? I think I’ve been experiencing this for around a month now. I was also wondering if there anything I should avoid (ie, frequently washing my hair or frequently brushing it, etc.). Any tips or advice or what worked for you guys would be super helpful! Thank you!!

Hi Everyone! I'm feeling motivated to give an update on my pregnancy. At 17 weeks, I have determined that my nausea and discomfort after eating sweet foods is in fact dumping and not morning sickness. I was confused by this because I had not attempted to eat sweet foods prior to my positive pregnancy test - which I was already 7/8 weeks before the morning sickness that I was experiencing at night (minus sweets) registered as possible pregnancy. My surgery was March 8, 2022 and my LMP was July 11, 2022. So far, I have gained 7 pounds and I feel good about this number but I would be lying to you if there wasn't a mental aspect to seeing the scale moving in the o…

I had my sleeve surgery done late Wednesday and still feeling a lot of pain despite being on opioids. When can I expect the pain to go away? I gained about 5lbs of water weight since surgery. Hoping the swelling will go down. At what day could you comfortable do a 10-15 walk? Walking still seems really painful now

Hey all. I'm 3 days post-op and can't feel the difference between trapped gas and being full. What should I be looking for? The trapped gas has improved a lot, but I still have an uncomfortable feeling under my left rib cage. I'm shooting for an ounce of liquid every 10-15 minutes. I also have to use a spoon full of applesauce to get some of my medication down.

Hi all- I’d love it someone could help me understand what’s going on. I’m 4 days post op from gastric bypass/HH surgery. The instructions I received from the nutritionist and the hospital after visit summary was to begin chewable vitamins and tums the following day of returning home (ie day 3 post op). So, yesterday I took the chewable vitamins they suggest along with thin liquids and pain medication as needed. My wound pain has improved but this morning (day 4 PO) after taking the vitamins and good hydration on day 3 PO, I began to feel uncomfortable in my digestion. I kept away from any protein or drinks that weren’t water but progressively my new pouch started to rejec…

Dear all! First, a big contrats to all for doing the surgery for your own health and good. I hope you will all arrive at the desired results sooner than later and that the post-op phase will be as smooth as possible. My boyfriend is having his surgery in a few weeks and i want to give him a post-op gift for being brave through this process. Nothing too big or expansif, but something thoughtful and hopefully useful for after the surgery. I have a few ideas...currently, I'm hesitating between the following: A nice summer/light bath robe and assorted slippers so he can be comfy after the surgery and not need to dress up A gift card from his favor…

So, did your weight loss just slow down until it eventually settled and you started maintenance there? Or did you stop once you reached a weight goal? If so, how did you add calories back to a place you are no longer losing? I am not near maintenance now. However, I have been wondering about how this works for people. Thank you for sharing!

Hi - Could you tell about your hair loss experience after surgery- when/how much/ and when it tapered off? Also, did it all come back eventually? I’ve lost hair in the past after a stressful time and it came back in a few months so wonder if that will be similar. Thanks for your replies!

Hello guys, It's my 20th day post gastric sleeve and I am still struggling with the incision pain, especially around my biggest incision. It's been difficult for me ever since the surgery with little to no improvement, but this week I came back to work (sedentary office job) and it's getting absolutely ridiculous. I can't bend over, I can't sleep on either of my sides, getting dressed in the morning takes three times longer than it should. If I move just right, the pain gets so big it makes me want to scream. I had a GP appointment a few days ago and she said everything looks to be in order. Didn't diagnose any incisional hernias or other stuff. My appoint…

Hi all, I am week 2 into my full liquid diet. I am feeling hungry almost every 1 or 1.5 hour. I can eat yogurt or drink a protein shake in 30-40 minutes, but sometimes still hungry. I’m averaging 72g of protein this week. I’m not sure if I’m having fathom hunger or I need to sip/eat more often. someone please help ease my mind.

So if you have the amazon halo you have probably gotten the dreaded email that they are discontinuing it by August 1st, what are you switching to? I really prefer to stay screenless, as with my line of work I don't need the distraction during meetings or the buzzing of my arm. For context I got 128 text messages between 6 pm and 9 pm last night So that also will be a huge battery drain. I love the sleep tracking and the steps with the satisfaction of earning points for movement and taking points away for sedentary behavior. I use android phone if that matters. And I really would rather not go to the fitbit as thats what I had prior to my halo and i got a…
