Sorry for the stupid question but I just got the ESG done last month and was looking for other people who have gotten it done, besides this app it’s terribly hard to find anyone who has gotten this procedure done IMO, but I have found quite a few reviews with gastric plication so I’m wondering is this same thing ?

in my pre-op stages to get the sleeve I'm realizing how much I was an emotional eater because I'm trying to watch what I'm eating and do what the doctor is telling me to do. Did anybody suffer from your stomach feeling full but your brain doesn't? I drunk a smoothie they had strawberry papaya, squash and zucchini my stomach feels full but in my mind I want to eat? When you have the surgery does that go away or is it just self-discipline?

Hello everyone! I've been trying to figure out everything about the ESG surgery. I went to a seminar last week for gastric bypass/sleeve, only to find out that my insurance doesn't cover it. In checking out my options, I found out about ESG and it sounds like a better fit for me. I'm waiting for a callback from the surgical office for my consultation appointment. I'll be self-pay (Care Credit & HSA), but I had some questions: 1. What kind of testing did you all have to go through prior to the surgery? I know insurance generally requires a lot of hoops for patients to go through, but I'm curious how that applies to self-pay patients. 2. I've read two…

Hello All, I had an EGS on Monday. On the whole I've felt pretty good. Some pain post op. Some nausea (usually in the middle of the night). It's all fading day by day and for the most part I feel pretty normal. However, I don't have a lot of energy and I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same issue. It's like I feel sleepy a lot. Thanks!

I first read about ESG late last year and was immediately interested in it as I liked the non-surgery/minimally invasiveness of the procedure. I have private health insurance but in Australia ESG isn't covered by medicare therefore private health insurance doesn't give a rebate for the procedure. I am about 5ft1 and weigh 95kgs. I have been overweight a long time and like many have tried many different things. I did lose weight about 10 years ago, and got down to 65kgs, while that wasn't in the healthy weight range for my height...I did like how it looked on me. That lasted about two years or so, and I put the weight back on along with another 12kgs and it is still s…

When did you stop being scared that a stitch was gonna burst or is it just me? My surgeon keeps reminding me not to push it as they can pop (not that I would ever do something like that I’m still on the soft food stage one month out of ESG, but would love to hear if any of you felt the same !

Follow-up to this post. This went away a few days after I posted. My theory is that I got a pill stuck (a large antibiotic) in my esophagus and it caused a bit of a burn. I took the pill before bed without enough water. Just took a few days to heel. I'm now 3 weeks and 3 days out. Have lost just under 20lbs thus far and its been pretty painless. I have noticed that my restriction isn't where it was in the first couple weeks but if you eat enough it certainly lets you know. The biggest benefits are lack of hunger pangs and a built in portfolio control mechanism. It would be easy to graze all day especially on soft foods. One mu…

Hi all, I'm exactly a week out from ESG. All has gone fine with the exception of a pain that I've developed in my throat/chest when I swallow. The pain has been around for three days. It seems like an exaggerated form of heartburn. I started Zegerid (Omeprazole) about two hours ago. Will continue to take that and hope for the best. So far no relief. Has anyone experienced anything similar? As an aside, I'm down 8lbs the first week and my energy levels are ok despite being on clear fluids. I'm due to start soft food soon but I'm reluctant to do so with this pain.

Hello friends this is my first post. Thank you so much for posting your experiences here. I have been a Lurky-Loo for a week know and you stories have been inspirational. My ESG surgery is 24th of August...YIKES. Is anyone else due for ESG surgery around this time? I would love to share experience with friends going through the same thing at the same time. The ESG forum has been so very helpful for me. I am tremendously nervous about the surgery but reading all the posts has been soothing. You guys are so brave and I feel like a chicken. Welp I guess that is all. Nice to meet ya!

Hello I've been following this message board for a while now, but never gathered the courage to participate I'm now a month post-op and I hate to admit that I started eating real food (well, almost) half way through my soft/pureed food phase. I got some minor pains, but was very manageable. I thought if i puree it in my mouth, then it'd be ok lol but obviously it wasn't. So, anyway... my weight has stopped going down at half of week 3... nothing. Is it because I haven't followed the rules? I'm feeling pretty down... and i'm so ashamed to go to my doctor and let him know that I haven't followed the diet I should've been following. Anyone had a case simil…

Having struggled with my weight most of my life (was always successful at losing just not keeping it off), I started researching different WLS for years. I was turned down back in 2013 because my BMI wasn't high enough. So the doctor put me on a low carb (Atkins) diet and of course I lost weight, but eventually put it all back on, and then some. Some stats for me: 45 M HW: 340 Surgery Weight: 310 I met with the staff locally (Washington University in St. Louis) in late July for the first time. I decided to do the ESG because I thought it was my best option for non-surgical WL. I had some follow up tests with a nutritionist and th…

I'm supposed to be on a full liquid diet right now, but oy, this is hard. Protein shakes are making me want to gag, but even if I grin and bear it, I can't get a lot down because I start to feel so full. I am totally not accomplishing my goal of 60-70 grams of protein a day - not by a long shot. Broth is disgusting, too. So I'm living on Fairlife milk, blended with a little bit of protein powder, decaf hot tea, water and SF jell-o. This is my life. So many forums and other things I've read on websites say that the soft food stage can start on week 2. But I messaged my bariatric counselor at the Mayo Clinic and they said, no - stick to the plan - 2-3 more weeks to g…

Hi all - new to the forum. I have my ESG scheduled for the 17th July in England and I can't wait :). I have started my pre-op diet and it is hard, especially as I haven't told anyone outside of my family about this - so I have been making excuses not to see friends "for dinner". I am still slightly worried that I should be doing the VSG and not the ESG but I am hoping I will get the same results, even if they take a bit longer. Can I ask what the weight loss results have been for ESG with other people? There is still so little information around on it, it seems to only be done in the US, Australia, Germany and the UK by a handful of surgeons....

Hi All, Finally decided to look into weight loss surgery after no energy to work out, feet are killing me because of weight and recent photos at a wedding someone posted of me on FB. I have no idea how I got here! Yeah I know. It was cupcakes. Wanted to get Balloon but doctor said he had a better idea. He suggested Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty . He said better results, less complications , less invasive than cutting and less costly. After a lot of research I decided to go ahead with procedure. My doctor made it seem that it was a super quick recovery . I haven’t met with nutritionist yet but saw on forums all the no no’s! Yikes I love coffee, occasiona…

I’m going for my consultation this Tuesday (7/10). I’m 5’8” and 204lbs. That puts me just within the BMI range for this procedure. I keep wondering if I should do this or not. Kind of like I don’t weigh enough to justify esg and the high cost. But I really feel that it would help me so much with some medical problems...plantar fasciitis, BP, some reflux and just overall sluggish, tired and achy body! Im 53 and don’t like feeling old and worn out with this weight on me! Lol! What do you think? I’ve done the yo yo diet thing and don’t want to go thru that again. Plus walking and some of the exercise I do enjoy are pretty painful right now due to plantar fasciitis.

Can anyone share info on the weight loss results achieved after endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty? Also, did you experience any pain after the procedure? Please talk us through what the procedure was like for you and what your weight loss journey has been like since the procedure. And, for those who shared that their insurance paid for the procedure, which insurance provider covers ESG and how long did insurance approval take? Thank you.

I am so glad I found this app. Reading everyone’s input and positivity makes me even more motivated. Good luck to all on this journey !! I am currently on the 3rd day of my 2 week pre-op shakes. It’s tough not gonna lie. It’s definitely a mind game my body is freaking out but each day gets better. I lost 5 lbs and I was told I have to lose 19lbs by April 2nd (the day before my surgery) on the last weigh in. I can’t wait to see results!! I am going on this journey with positivity and strength in knowing all of you have done this and I will be okay too. Thank you for all your posts and support. This is just the beginning but I’ve been wanting this for so long, I am so exci…

Hi all, I had the ESG 1-wk ago and it has been a bit of a struggle for me. Heartburn, frequently light-headed, night sweats and I feel very hungry but have only been able to take in around 300 calories/day approx 50g protein/day. Anyone else find themselves in a similar state a week post op? I’m definitely improving overall but this has been very challenging with a lot of ups and downs. Thanks!

Hello everyone. I’m scheduled for my ESG on February 6 which is only 6 short days away. I’m scared and I need some pep talks from our veteran ESGers. So many of you have been an inspiration to me, in particular Melesg, TexSlim, and AmyAlexis but I now find myself so terrified of this procedure. I’m afraid of the actual procedure, what if I don’t wake up? I have 4 children who are older 19, 18, 15, and 11 but they still need me. What if I have a horrible reaction and I have to hospitalized? What if I need several days to recover instead of just 3? My biggest fear is what if I go through with it after months of wanting this procedure done and it doesn’t work? Ple…

I am a 62 year old female who has been a yo-yo dieter all of my life. As part of the preparation for tomorrow's procedure, I had to recount all of my efforts to lose weight. I told the therapists that I have lost enough weight over the years to create a whole other person. Unfortunately, every time I've lost a person, I've found a fatter one to replace her with. When I made the decision, both emotional and financial, to go ahead with the ESG procedure, I was excited and hopeful. Now less than 24 hours away from the procedure, I'm nervous and worried. I'm happy to see all the positive reports on this forum, but I worry that my age will be a factor. I'm healthy and str…

Hi everyone. I have read all of the various topics on ESG and have really appreciated all of the information. I have a phone consultation on Monday and still have some questions, so if anyone is willing to send some input I would really appreciate it! Some background: I live in Canada and ESG isn't offered here (and I don't qualify for any other surgery in Canada) so I am going to head to the US and pay out of pocket. I am speaking with Dr. Marvin of Houston Surgical - I was very impressed with their program and it seems like he has a lot of experience. I would like to lose about 50 pounds but would be content between 30-40. Here is what I cannot wrap my head…
