ESG at Mayo Jax

I am scheduled for surgery with Dr. Gomez at the Mayo Clinic in JAX on June 29th. I am nervous about staying on a liquid diet for 4 weeks. I am not sure why the liquid diet duration is longer at Mayo, but that is the standard. Any and all advice is most welcome. Thank you! Karen

Wow four weeks that is a long time. You will be well and truly over liquids by your surgery date!

What variety in your liquids are you allowed?

Thanks for your reply. Clear liquids for the first two days then full liquids until day 31. High protein, low calorie, low fat, low sugar, no caffeine. So protein shakes, skim milk, broth....

How is your liquid diet going?

Hello 2shea, Thanks for asking. My ESG was moved out to 7/5. I was on clear liquids until yesterday. I was nauseous and crampy with a sore throat due to the tube going down my throat. I am able to drink the protein shakes with little to no discomfort. I feel satisfied with the shakes and have not had any cravings. I will let you know how I feel at the end of next week.
