Hello friends this is my first post. Thank you so much for posting your experiences here. I have been a Lurky-Loo for a week know and you stories have been inspirational.

My ESG surgery is 24th of August...YIKES. Is anyone else due for ESG surgery around this time? I would love to share experience with friends going through the same thing at the same time.

The ESG forum has been so very helpful for me. I am tremendously nervous about the surgery but reading all the posts has been soothing. You guys are so brave and I feel like a chicken.

One day at a time - you will have your surgery 2 years and 1 day after I had mine. Remember to be kind to yourself and give you body time to heal. Those first week are tough but you can do this. Search for groups for August 2018 surgery - I'm still in touch with a lot of the folks I've met through a similar group. Best of luck.

Madison my friend @ LynnV1964 in Southwestern Ohio will make you a good ESG,buddy also be checking into that Forum on Bariatric Pal. There aren't as many as VSG people but there are a few. Seems to be done more overseas than in the US or Canada. And if you want an all'purpose new surgery friend please consider me. I will be having an RnY September 5th but I am still a pretty nice person.

As much I would like by ESG to be undertaken sooner it won't be happening until mid October. Marisol it won't be long before you will be starting your pre-op diet.

Same to you 2shea. October is right around the corner. It's just a handful of weeks for a brand new life for us all.

The ESG is really a waste of money and does not last . I had it done last summer, and lost 15 pounds. I did everything that they told me to do and followed the diet exactly . I had nausea and vomiting in the beginning and was full a lot faster. However I had an endoscopy in January and my MD showed me that the entire thing had come apart and did not last . Although I still eat less I have not lost any more significant weigh and am not going to get it redone . You should opt for the sleeve as it works a lot better

My doctor will not do ESG on anyone who hasd previously had a gastric balloon as there is a high failure rate there, but do they know why the stitching had come apart? Did your surgeon do a bad ESG eg too loose stitching? Do you know how many ESGs they have done and what that surgeon's failure / revision rate is?

I am a member of three facebook ESG groups and while there are people on there who haven't had success or much success there are so many more who have lost plenty of weight many longterm and maintaining.

There are many reasons for failure just as VSG or RNY fail and until the reason is determined we can't say ESG (or even VSG and RNY) is a waste of money.

If you look at the literature it is not a long term solution.furthermore insurance does not cover it yet, so even if your MD schedules as endoscopy you will have a few thousand dollars to pay

ESG has a stand alone procedure hasn't been around for all that long really, care to share the research that you have about it's long term viability.

We know that ESG on average has lower weight loss than VSG and RNY, which in of itself isn't an issue, there is less restriction and no malabsorption, and its a trade of for weight loss option that is non surgical and minimally invasive. Yes it isn't covered by insurance in USA or medicare in Australia (but is currently under revew for that), but then for a lot of people in USA they self pay for a lot of WLS. Not sure what your point is there.

So do they know why your restriction didn't hold?
