The Gals' Room

A space for women. Weight loss surgery, health, body changes, or whatever else is on your mind.

  1. Men, while we understand that you may be curious as to what is going on in the powder Room, Alex and I respectfully request that you refrain from posting in this forum. The purpose of having a room for the ladies is so they may post about subjects specific to woman only, and feel comfortable in doing so. Many times these are sensitive issues, and this should be a safe place to discuss female related problems without the fear of being judged or being afraid that their issue may not be taken seriously. We will be, in turn asking the same of the ladies in regards to the Man Room. Thank you for your cooperation. Sent from my iPad using VST

  2. I’m going to a wedding in October and have been shopping for dresses, but honestly it’s been kind of discouraging. I’ve had to buy a size Large, which feels weird since it’s bigger than what I normally wear. At the same time, I have to remind myself that it’s still way better than the 2–3X I used to wear, and that’s something I should be proud of. I think what’s getting to me is the 10 pounds I gained after my breast augmentation, and seeing that bigger size just messes with my head. I know sizes are all over the place depending on where you shop, but it still makes the body dysmorphia flare up. I’ve worked so hard for the body I have now and continue to maintain it, so i…

So I have lost a significant amount of weight. When I started my journey my breast size was a 42GG, and I am now a 32E, but of course, with such massive weight loss, my breasts are just insane-looking (not in a good way) I have actually found myself being more self-conscious of my sagging breasts, compared to my tummy. They literally have no volume at all to them now and it is just empty hanging skin 😓 I am attending a wedding next month and I have a beautiful dress I am wearing, but the issue is is that it doesn't look quite right with a bra. I have tried a stick on bra but it looks awful with the skin just clinging to it without any volume. Ladies - does anyone have any…

Thrilled to have lost enough weight that I can now avoid incontinence issues. Haven't had accident in over a week. A new life for sure.

  5. I was banded recently, and am losing a lot of weight, but have a long way to go. My husband hasn't really been interested in sex for years. I've always suspected it's because of my weight--at my heaviest, I was nearly 100 lbs. more than when we got married. He swears it's not my weight, but I think that's just to protect my feelings. Now I'm worried, what if I get thin, and he still doesn't want to have sex? What have your experiences been? As you've lost weight, have your husbands/boyfriends/girlfriends/s.o.s gotten more interested in sex?

  7. So if any of you have read my story on here, you will know I have PCOS. I am 28 now, and I was diagnosed when I was 21. I haven't really had a regular cycle, and in the past 2 years I have probably only had 3 times where I have bled REALLY light. I wouldn't even call it a period ? So now I have lost weight, in the past 2 and a bit months I have had 2 periods - proper ones! I am both elated but also now reminded of the annoyance of them ? Grateful to my body for functioning, but boy oh boy, the hormones?!?! I have been an absolute wreck this week - angry, depressed, sad, crying, detached, more angry. ?‍♀️ On an interesting note though, I was reall…

Hi ladies, I had gastric bypass 3yrs ago October. My starting weight was 340 and I'm current 269 with my lowest being 245. I lost all of my weight the first 9mos and then I went off plan because my fertility doctor wouldn't restart treatments until my weight stabilized. I had surgery so I could get pregnant (I had undergone 3yrs of fertility treatments before surgery). I've had 3yrs of fertility treatments since then, no lock. My new dr said I'd help if I lost another 50lbs. I've been trying for months and cannot get below 255. I lowered my calories to 800 with 30min of exercise and literally not even an ounce lost. I eat clean, very little to no sugar, fruit, veggie…

  9. I started losing my hair 3 weeks out and it hasn't slowed a bit. I've lost about 50% of my hair and have some noticeable bald spots now. I want to dye my hair dark - will the hair dye affect anything? I figure it's totally unrelated since the hair loss is hormonal and my hair isn't actually DAMAGED and shouldn't break. My hair looks thin and stringy. I am kind of thinking about shaving it totally off even though I would look ridiculous. I don't know what to do. Every day there are clumps in my shower drain I have to remove. Yes, I've tried all the supplements and special shampoos and blahblahblah. I've come to accept it's just going to happen and EVENTUALLY it will …

  10. Hi all. My name is Carrielee. I am 33 years old and have been on the fence about WLS for the last few years. I have struggled with obesity since I was quite young and the weight keeps piling on. I am 5 foot 1 and just hit 325 pounds. I now have a BMI of 61.4. I have uncontrolled Hypertension on multiple meds, uncontrolled Type II Diabetes, and high cholesterol, sleep apnea, severe fatty liver disease (nearing cirrhosis), severe arthritis, IIH, angina, past history of PE. I can barely walk and have been told if I don’t lose the weight I likely won’t live to see 40. I’ve backed out of this so many times but now that I’ve surpassed the 300 pound mark …

  13. Hi All, I'm in the process of being scheduled for my sleeve and they are going to do a hysterectomy at the same time. I have been have random episodes of uncontrolled bleeding, the last one lasted 35 days. They couldn't figure out why it started and they played hell getting it to stop. My surgeon agreed to do both at the same time since it was a bleeding issue. I'm curious if anyone else has done this and what the recovery was like? How long were you out of work? Any advice to offer? Thanks in advance for your time

Hey ladies, A bit of context: I have PCOS & I haven't had a period in about 2 years. I also have the coil as my form of contraception so that has probably added to the lack of periods. I am on my 10th day of the pre-op diet and I've lost about 8lbs -/+ so far, and I have started a really light period! Is this normal? I feel like maybe my body is trying to work properly? ?

Hi ladies! Not sure what is going on but I am dry as a Sahara desert in my lady bits, and its to the point where my S/O doesn't think I am attracted to him. Which is not true at all. I never had this problem, is this just a side effect of losing weight rapidly? or maybe I am getting older (I am 35yrs old). It is getting frustrating.

  17. Started by carrielee,

I just had my first appointment with the surgeon. It went really well, and I’m glad I took the first step. We are leaning toward Gastric Bypass as the procedure for me. It’s a 3 month process to surgery with his office, 3 visits with him, 3 visits with dietician, plus clearance by Cardiology, Pulmonology and sleep medicine. My next visit with him and the dietician will be in about a month and he’s sending out the referrals to the offices for the clearances and working on prior authorization with insurance.

I want to preface by saying I am smaller than when I first met my partner 4 and half yrs ago, he's been an amazing and supportive person during my journey. My initial fear was he would not be attracted me smaller since he met me as a curvy woman, I was open with my concerns before pursuing the surgery and he assured me that it would not change. We communicate really well and are open which is great and I love it! Last night, he mentioned that it felt like he was having sex with a different person, he said not a bad thing and he is very much attracted me but it caught him off guard. I am not sure …

I was well and truly on the way to menopause before surgery, I hadn't had a period for six months and hadn't had a "regular" cycle for over 12 months. The day after surgery I get a period ok that's fine but as I lost weight my periods start to become semi regular again ??? I am 56 and thinking they should have stopped by now. So just curious if this has happened to anyone else

He does always have dinner ready and the house clean when I get home from work. Our relationship isn’t on the best of terms and when we argue he calls me fat all the time. He feels like he’s right all the time, he puts others down, blames me for everything etc. This year my company switched insurances and now the surgery is covered!!! I’m so excited. Hello! This is my first time postimg on here. I've had an IUD for 3 years now, with no complications. No periods either I had VSG on March 1st, and have been spotting here and there. Today I woke up and basically am on my period! Super strange! So I went to the ER (no gynos had appointments for months out) and they took blood work and said everything was fine. They also took ultrasound and said my IUD was where it needed to be and nothing looked abnormal. The doctor suggest it might have been my body reacting to this new stressful experience of having to recooperate from the procedure. Has anyone else heard or this or experience anything like it's?

Hey Folks, So I am finishing the pre surgery process here in a couple weeks and it is starting to be real that I’m really going to get the surgery and life as I know it now is going to change. Has anyone dealt with fear of what their new body will look like? I’ve been plus size my entire life. I’m nervous as to what my new body will look like. I worked hard to get to body neutrality and I feel myself starting to fixate on weight I may or may not lose. Has anyone else felt this way?

Has anyone had their mirena iud removed after weight loss surgery and gained weight because of it? I got my gastric sleeve last year and I’m so happy with where I’m at however, I’ve been considering getting my iud removed. My issue is that I have pcos and am terrified that I gain weight due to hormones after getting it removed. Has anyone else been in this situation that can offer any advice?

Hi all, I'm 43 and am meeting a surgeon in 2 weeks to hopefully get on the road to having a gastric sleeve. Im hopeful & excited vistualising how i will look after - tummy flap and all. One thing though has been on my mind, will I look older after surgery when I've lost weight? I'm curious to hear your experiences post surgery and if there were any supplements you were recommended to help prevent your face looking like a deflated balloon full of wrinkles?

Ive been married for over 10 years and ever since I got the surgery and I’ve lost so much weight it’s like wow my husband is all over me , wants sex all the time , I can really tell he likes the new me or more like my new body. The thing is he’s changing , very controlling and basically doesn’t let me go out not even to family events like I’m feeling like a prisoner ! It’s just getting worst

Ok, is painful intercourse a part of the changing hormones from losing weight, or should I talk to my doctor about it being another issue? It's not really dryness, though there is some. It is mostly pain during, not after.. I thought increased estrogen would help. It's only been in the last few weeks that this has been going on.

Now every morning I wake up feeling bloated and cramping then it tapers off completely as day goes on. Has anyone else experienced this. I see a lot of post regarding period problems but nothing like this. I bleed every morning only. Also how are you all handling the cramps?

I am almost 6 weeks PO and I have only lost 20lbs. I am in my local support group for my surgeons office and others have lost more then me and are only like 3-4 weeks PO. My husband also had the surgery 3 months before I did and he had lost 30-35 lbs by this point. I am doing everything right and not sure what to do, it is really putting a tole on my mental health. I struggled before which is obviously why I had the surgery, but I expected it to not be as hard after the surgery!

Though I don't have a surgery date, yet exceedingly excited without content for where this journey is about to take me... I'm already browsing clothes I've had my pockets waiting for since forever (if ever). Boutiques that only sell small, medium, large. Reminding me of how retailer 5-7-9 in the movie Mean Girls got its name. A shop that focused its collection on three sizes 5, 7 and 9.

When I talked to my surgeon yesterday she said it sounds like I'm doing the right things but she did agree that most people would be down a lot more. She wants to look at my gallbladder since I have been having trouble holding down food like chicken specifically so maybe there is something there. So I am 10 days post op from self pay Mexico sleeve— I stopped my HRT one week ahead of surgery, but am curious of what your teams have advised on restarting HRT (patches). I have a call into my doctor, but would like to hear your thoughts on it… Did you lower your dose when you lost weight? Start at the same dose prior to surgery? Etc? Any info appreciated related to the Hormone replacement patch. I had a hysterectomy in November 2022, and have been on HRT a year prior— still have ovaries but at 52 I doubt they are helping!

  42. Started by DoOverGirl,

I had my bypass revision on 12/13/2022, my period came down a few days after. It has now been close to 4 weeks of it non stop. Some days it's bright, other days its brown but the one thing is that its been constant. Previous to my surgery I had a Mirena for 1 year, I had not had a period for over 10 months. The Mirena was removed in November, a few days later I got the depo shot. So my depo was fairly recent to my bypass. I called my gyno and she is not concerned at this point since there is no odor, pain or fever. Has anyone experienced this? Do you guys think its the shock of surgery? A mix of all the BC hormones recently?
