I’m on my second day of my 2week liquid diet before my surgery on the 23rd. Man, I’m struggling, but I haven’t cheated at all. When my husband was cooking supper, I thought I was going to lose it. I held my composure. Any one else cheat or wanted to?

  5. Howdy, I’m scheduled for surgery on 1/30/19 and am on day 9 of my 4 week liquid diet. The diet consists of 4 Bariatric Advantage shakes, 2 Bariatric Advantage protein bars, and either a small banana or 1 cup of skim milk per day. It’s been hard, but I’ve stuck to it and found I’m not hungry or hangry like I was the first 4-5 days. I lost 14lbs in the first week, yay! However, both yesterday and today I’ve gained a pound back. I’ve been told it could be water weight or a number of things, but it is so dang frustrating! Has anyone else encountered this? To try and help myself from going crazy I’ve decided to stop weighing myself everyday. But I’m worried if I gain…

So I have one week to go until my revision from Band to RNY. I have been toldnot to do a preop diet but just to stick to clean eating!! I am extremely happy about that and could have kissed the NUT when she told me that as I remember how awful the preop was before my band. But do you know how confusing clean eating is? Yes I know I need to steer away from processed foods and added sugars but apart from that there are so many different variations. I haven’t been told no carbs but I am trying to keep those to a minimum ( except veg). I’ve also given up alcohol. Hopefully that is enough!

  9. This site has been a cold bucket of reality splashed right in my face. During the 6 months of classes and pre-surgery discussions, everything was presented to me as -- follow these rules, do these things and you'll have a smooth recovery. IF you do this you'll get dumping syndrome, so don't do that. You'll be fine. IF you do that you'll have horrible chest pains and shortness of breath, so don't do that. You'll be fine. Now I read posts all over about how people do follow the rules and they experience both. So I should expect at some point I'm going to get dumping syndrome, dry heaves, vomiting, and cramps. I can only hope they will be few and far between and I sh…

I have my surgery on yesterday afternoon. Surgery went really well. I woke up and it was a little nauseous for a while but they’ve been really good about controlling and so I didn’t throw up at all. I’m literally having no pain except for one area which is that my diaphragm. There is an incision really close to it so I can’t tell if it’s the incision that is making an egg or if it is trapped gas from the surgery. Either way it’s going very smoothly and I’m feeling pretty good now that the anesthetic has worn off. I’ve been walking a lot which is good and it appears they’re going to discharge me in about 10 hours from now. So I’m pretty stoked. Just want this diaphragm pai…

Hi everyone ! My name is Gia and I’m currently in the process of doing the Duodenal Switch. I’m 20 years old. 5’3 and about 345 lbs right now. I have been approved by my insurance but I need two more tests done before I get scheduled. I have a few questions for people who have already had the surgery , anything you wish you knew before you did it ? Anything I should remember to keep my head in the game ? Tips on the dealing / getting over the worst things ? Tips on mental health maintenance ? I’m sorry for asking so much considering I haven’t gotten the surgery yet but I’m doing a notebook beforehand. Thank you in advance !

I’m working on stopping my ridiculous 6-7 a day diet soda addiction to prepare for surgery in a month and I’m looking to see if any one had any tips or suggestions on weening yourself off to avoid experiencing the terrible withdrawal symptoms that I know are going to come. I know it’s not going to be completely avoidable, but maybe there’s a way where it won’t be so bad? Any tips or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. For some reason this is giving me lots of anxiety! I already quit smoking (going on 3 months!!!) so if I can do that I know can do this but I’m not looking forward to the headaches. Thanks in advance!

Ever since I was approved for surgery about 3 weeks ago, I have been eating so poorly. I have been eating every single thing I have convinced myself I will "never have again"... to the point of absurdity. Like a bucket list. I am eating worse than I ever have in my entire life, probably. I am really struggling to get on track. I had no weight loss requirement before surgery or anything, and my doctor knows I've gained weight but said it was okay at my last appointment with him. Because he said it was okay, my brain gave me a free leash to just go and eat whatever junk I can find. I'm struggling to stop. My lunch today was just a huge plate of potato and macaroni salad... …

Hello, I’m new here. I’m waiting to be scheduled to meet with the doctor about my surgery if everything goes well hopefully soon. I’ve been thinking about starting myself on a liquid diet for a few weeks to see if I can shed some pounds before heading into the docs office. Has anyone tried a liquid diet prior to the operation and did you have any success? I’m open to any suggestions! Thank you all ! ???

  22. OK so I plan on telling people close to me that I'm doing the RNY however, there are some people such as my ex husband and his horrible new wife I do NOT want to tell. The problem is that he still comes over now and then to see the kids and I absolutely refuse to tell him I'm doing this so I need an excuse. (Basically an excuse as to why I am totally unavailable for a few days/weeks). I've already had my gallbladder removed so thats out. Anyone have to make up a cover story with a fake surgery? Im worried that I'll have to tell certain people I had, for example, my appendix removed, and then like magic weight just starts falling off of me. Is there even any…

  24. I am so disgruntled. I had a recent post about how my husband is not supportive but he has reached a new low. He just told me that I am using drastic measures to become skinny and " he doesn't like skinny women". When I first got with my husband I weighed 145 lbs. I'm 5'6. So I I was pretty small then. Well fast forward twenty one years and 3 kids later ...my highest weight was 242 lbs. I am insulted by this so badly. I told him if you don't like the size I become then you have the option of leaving then. I'm so tired of this ish. Everyday he is putting me down about this surgery and I know I may have some tough patches post op and I know he is going to lavish in that so …

Hello All, My surgery date for the Roux en y gastric bypass is 11/1/18. My original surgery date was 10/11/18 in which I completed 11 days of my 3 week pre op diet ( which consists of 4 protein shakes a day, 2 protein bars, 1 small banana, up to 3 servings of sugar free jello, low sodium broth, and of course clear liquids). Now when I first did the diet the first time I followed it very strictly and did not cheat at all. This is now my second time doing the pre op liquid diet which my doctor wants me to do 2 weeks instead of 3 this time around. I "cheated" and had Vietnamese Pho broth only the broth and I am freaking out that I really screwed my self. I haven't devia…

Hey Everyone! With a surgery scheduled for 1/17, I am starting my 2-week Pre-OP liquid diet today. I am allowed no solids, and with the exception of unlimited sugar free liquids and jello and broth, I can only have 1 egg, 1/2 cup ricotta cheese and 1 cup of yogurt daily. Any suggestions or words of wisdom to add variety into the next two week?!

My insurance does not cover bariatric surgery and I'm strongly considering going to have it done in Mexico. I know a few people who did that and it has been a success. I know there are risks, but I feel the benefits may outweigh the risks. I'm just not able to lose weight on my own. I've lost 130lbs before but gained it all back. I feel I need a medical intervention. I cannot afford to self pay. any advice would be helpful thanks

  29. Greetings, I received my surgery date in mid December. It took about four weeks with the Thanksgiving holiday to get approval from my insurance company. My pre-op diet is not a full liquid diet thankfully. There is an emphasis on protein shakes, but I am also allowed to have hard boiled eggs, low fat yogurt, fruit, and frozen meals such as Lean Cuisine, etc. I will have to stop having decaf coffee as of the 31st as I drink it with milk, though I can have decaf tea with stevia. I haven't lost a ton of weight previous to this, but I have done a good job cutting out sugar and caffeine. The holidays were a little touch and go but they are over now. I know it will all be…

Having gastric bypass on 11/1/2018. I got approved for my surgery within 3 months and NO weight loss prior to was required. I've actually gained 10 lbs because I've been eating "all the things I won't be able to have" over the last month. My surgeon doesn't seem to care, though, and says I'll lose it in the 2 weeks leading up to surgery on the pre-op diet. I start the pre-op semi-liquid diet on October 16th. I am 29 yrs old, 5'3" and 280lbs. I don't have any comorbidities except a questionable diagnosis of pseudotumor. I am worrying for a few reasons... My biggest worry at the moment is the shakes. I LOVED the whey shakes, especially Nectar. But, turns out, I a…

Hi all, I've got a couple questions to pose for you all! Does anyone here have hard, lumpy or 'ropey' fat? It's something I've been meaning to ask around about for a long time, but never had a chance. This is something I suffer from, and it's really only felt like that in maybe the last 3-4 years of my life. (I'm 33 now.) Is this something that just comes with being quite large or is it abnormal? My second question, I also have little lumps and nodules of fat all over my body that are *very* painful. I have brought them up to a doctor several times that just handwaves them as lipomas (or fatty nodules) but everything I've read claims they shouldn't hurt, whereas…

  36. So I'm almost done with the Purge. Got rid of almost everything in the pantry, fridge and freezer (donated to the local bread pantry and friends) except that which I will continue to be on for the remainder of my pre-surg liquid diet and what I will be on post-op. I left microwave popcorn - although my gut told me not to...LOL. But my husband asked pretty please. I just requested that he NOT make it while I am at home and not pre-surgery. I don't think I can take the smell. It's too tempting!! ? I also left what my husband will be eating. Basic staples, etc. Did all of this while I ate my sugar free popsicle - which btw was pretty tasty.

One thing that makes my situation different than some, is I am breastfeeding! Shes now 5 months old and about to start some solids next month. Although, mamas milk is number 1 nutrition. Ok so I'm on my third day of a Dr ordered 2 week pre-op liquid diet. I WILL NOT cave in - I don't want to do anything to screw up my chances of having surgery! This is carved in stone for me. I am so nauseous and tired today, and what I feel like doing is curling up in the fetal position laying in bed and hibernating until surgery date. Does it get easier? Any tips on making this a less torturous experience? ?

So I just got out of surgery yesterday and come home today and I’m starving. My stomach is growling like I never had it...is that normal? Water and ice pops aren’t doing it for me. I may be having surgery remorse.

I had some chicken wings and pizza for dinner [emoji31] I know I need to look into getting help with not giving in to the food but does anyone think I messed up my surgery? I am supposed to be drinking two shakes a day and one lean meat meal with veggies.

  44. Started by Neri,

It's just about 12 hours before I have to report to registration for my surgery, and I'm starting to get anxious. I'm afraid of not getting the surgery for one reason or another. Maybe something will come up and the surgeon will have to cancel. Maybe my liver didn't shrink enough (or at all), and they'll stop the process. Basically, I'm afraid something will happen and I won't get my surgery. And I know it's silly to worry about such a thing, but I do. I can't help it.

I’ve been checking off the required behavioral changes for surgery, and I’m getting very close. I have 2 more dietician appointments and about 6 more pounds to lose, so we are probably looking at mid-February for surgery. My psychologist appt. is on Friday. I’m a bit nervous about that, though I’ve been assured that it’s all fine. It’s just an unknown. As surgery gets closer, it’s starting to feel more real. I am still trying to wrap my head around what I’m getting ready to do. It’s such a huge decision. I am quite sure that it’s the right one, but it is permanent. I can’t say that my food choices have been perfect over the past couple of months. But, they’ve not bee…
