Ok, My doctor has no pre OP only requirements is stay same weight or lose if possible. So after Tuesday night I am going to try and stick to liquids the best I can. I know I heard everyone talking about how much Better it is for the liver and surgery. I'm still freaking out and that makes me want a eat. I guess this will change after surgery... anyone else go through it too? Four days, 4 argghhh... I was ready months ago Now I'm doing the what if's... I'm so glad everyone is here for support. I bought pho broth for pre op for my liquid as well as chicken and sugar free apple drink, jello and protein drinks...I really hope I can stick to it. I…

I went to my consult about 2 weeks ago and made all my appointments. I go back on 2/14 to follow up. I called the other day and asked what amount of weight was expected for me to lose before I go back and I was told not to lose any. Insurance wants to see that I can't lose. I can go up or down 5 pounds but to try to stay the same. I was also told at my consult that it will be an outpatient procedure and sent home the same day. Is this normal? Thanks.

I went to Europe to have my surgery as I could not afford to have it done in the UK. I can honestly say that you get what you pay for. Deals which seem too good to be true often are. I researched my company and the surgeon for months, the company has an excellent reputation and I spoke to lots of his previous patients who all had wonderful experiences. I have serious complications, which a surgeon in the UK thinks is down to cheap equipment and an inferior surgical technique. My desire to have surgery overrode everything so much so I chose to have it done outside the UK even though my family begged me not to go. Please stay in the UK for surgery, do not consider going abr…

funny thing to feel so scared and nervous after waiting so long to finally have the surgery... I could have done this 4 years ago.. I don't have a pre-op diet. But it makes sense to do a few days of liquid to make the liver shrink. My date is December 28th. So after Christmas Day I will do 2 days for cleansing...

I have my surgery December 26th, 2018 the day after Christmas and I have been following my pre-op diet and was wondering how much weight is one expected to loose? I am day 11 and my weight loss has seemed to stall. I am only 10 lbs down from beginning weight of pre-op diet and have seemed to stall there? Is this normal? Also, normally I do not have menstrual cycles but started my period 3 days ago. When I tried Keto in the past, I also bled the whole month I was on it until I raised my carbs? Seem that I bleed every time I lower my carbs and it's just miserable. Has anyone else had issues like this?

I’m generally healthy, 37 y/o comorb of hbp but it’s not essential, started from post partem hypertension but has been normal for a few years. I suffered ptsd from the aftermath of it all and I’m taking a small dose bp med to help with anxiety dr told me I could stop if I wanted as it’s not doing much for my bp (normal) After the post partem hypertension deal I lost about 60 pounds kept if off for a few years, of course it came back. Been over weight since teenage years not horribly but never tiny. At 5’0 anything over 125 lbs is overweight I’m scared of having surgery and any long term affects that are unknown since the vsg is relatively new. I’m 5’0 188 lbs (n…

63 and have never written to a forum like this on any subject. Like many I tried numerous programs, over the last 15 to 20 years, to address my slowly increasing weight, but nothing worked for more than a month or so. My problem is not eating poor quality meals, generally over eating at meal time, routinely eating badly (rarely go to a McDonald's except driving on vacation) or having a trigger food like cake or ice cream. My problem is I have no clue what hunger really feels like anymore. I can easily go all day with out eating but then once I start at dinner I can't/don't stop eating. I can eat a Thanks Giving meal, stuffed to the point of being sick, and then still tur…

I have went to the bariatric doctor and she told me I meet the criteria for the weight loss surgery. Now I have to attend a seminar and I have to go back to the bariatric surgery on 2/13/19 and she will set me up with a surgeon. She said it will be about four months out. I was right on the cusp for meeting the criteria with a 36 BMI with high blood pressure. She told me not to lose any weight or gain any. She made it sound like I am on my way, but I know there are other things I have to do. I checked with my insurance company and they will pay, but I'm so afraid something will happen to keep me from having it. I am 5'4 and 220 pounds. Anyone else with my height and …

I have hit a snag with financing my VSG surgery and I’m now rethinking the surgery as well. My nurse for my endoscopy the other day told me not to do it! She said the lifelong vitamin deficiencies, potential for bowel obstructions, gallbladder issues, brittle bones, etc. were all things she’s seen in her Bariatric patients long term. She didn’t say it in a bad way and I did ask her to be honest but once she realized she was discouraging me she felt bad. She told me that since I have no other comorbidities to just try losing it on my own again one more time and do it for a full year at 100% effort especially because I’m young (26). I am seriously on the fence especially no…

Tomorrow, I have my psych evaluation. For some reason, this will take 2 hours. I have no idea what to expect! Honestly, this is my very last thing to do before they submit for final insurance approval....I feel... apathetic? At first, 2 years ago when I first brought WLS up with my doctor, I was shut down. Don't do it, she said. Wait for an innovation or pill. Then, she retired, got a new doctor, better insurance, and in February, my new doctor was like, Why not? You'll have to do 6 months of counseling first there...Let's start there. So now, it's December, and...IDK...am I waiting for something new to go wrong? I had my last RD appt 11/19. Got my surgeon referral 11/23…

I have started my new journey. I live in Lindenwold NJ. I have Horizon NJ Health and really nervous about getting approve. I decided to make this journey after my grandmom and I both into the hospital in the same week for leg pain. She is 74 and I am 35, we are both same meds and morbidly obese. I thought if I'm on the same meds as her, will I make it to my 70th birthday at the rate I was going probably not. I have seen the nutritionist on the March 26. I have began collecting all my medical records. Looking through them I come to realize that my weight and health problems are have been never-ending that has to stop. Hey everyone I am having my gastric bypass surgery on Tuesday December 18th and I have been on a 2 week Medi Fast shake liquid diet. I know the purpose of all this is to shrink my liver. What kind of diets did you have pre-op? I know I only have 2 days left but I physically can not have another shake. I feel like I am going to throw up. I already lost like 10 pounds on this diet. I would rather have like clear broth my last 2 days these shakes are making me sick ?? Starting weight- 304 Current weight-287 ?

I'm worried suddenly. First of all, my surgery date was set for December 13th on November 30th. So I was told to start the pre op diet on December first, but then they couldn't get me in to a Pre op diet class until December 6th. I did start on the first, but that was not two weeks out, then when i went to the class i found i was not doing it quite right. I was eating 2% cheese, but "not the right kind" and my protein drinks had to many calories. My powder is fine, but then adding it to a drink made it more calories than they allow. So what I'm saying is, I'm basically only getting one week of pre op diet before my surgery this Thursday. Should i consider asking my …

Hi everyone in a couple days on Tuesday December 18th 2018 I will be having gastric bypass surgery. I am quite emotional and scared yet very happy that I am finally taking this step towards my weight-loss Journey. I have been overweight for most of my life and my weight has kept me from living my life and doing a lot of things that I have wanted to do. My obesity peaked after by 21st birthday. Which is when I hit the two hundreds. But as long as I can remember I have never been a skinny child. It is just so emotional for me to finally take the most drastic and gigantic step towards losing weight which is the gastric bypass surgery. A part of me is so happy and so thrilled…

I'm 36- I weigh around 240 and I'm 5' 6". I was this weight at the age of 12. I managed to lose 100 lbs when I was 17 or so with an extreme diet where I would just eat a can of soup and a nonfat yogurt and that would be all my food for the day. A bit disordered. I kept off 80 lbs of that for around 10 years and then it came crashing back on in a 3 month time period and there was nothing I could do to stop it. I manage to lose 30 lbs or so, but, then it creeps back on. I have one kid, I gained 80 lbs while pregnant due to preeclampsia but was back to prepregnancy weight in just three weeks, so, just water weight. I know that I really have to do some kind of weight lo…

I'm on day 3 of my 2 week preop diet. The slightest smell of food is making me want to back out of surgery. I'm on 3-4 protein shakes and 3ozs of lean meat and a serving of veggies per day. I'm scheduled for gastric bypass on December 19th. I really need this surgery, but I'M STARVING! Any suggestions on how I can curb or ignore the hunger pains?

Hi everyone I am currently 26 years old and I am due to have gastric bypass surgery on Tuesday December 18th. I have been told by my nutritionist to go on a two-week pre-operation diet only consisting of Medi fast protein shakes. I was very strict on the diet until tonight I completely broke down and had a 12 inch italian bread with scrambled eggs in it. I feel completely guilty. But I was starving due to the fact that I have not had any solid foods since December 4th. I was feeling really emotional/irritable and overall starving. I started my weight-loss Journey at 304lbs. Today I weigh 290. During my 6 months of nutritional monitoring I was not exactly doing my best I d…

Hello, I am Pre Op surgery my date is 12/5/18 (so close i know). we all have our habits, and knocking out lots of habits at once is so hard as we all know. I've been a full time cannabis user for the pass 10 years, smoke ganja everyday. Anyhoo, I've recently stopped smoking. I know i can stay strong at this point not to smoke but I'm very concerned I didn't stop sooner now. is two weeks enough time to give yourself before going under? If i tell my doctor he will postpone my surgery. I've worked so hard to get where i am, that would be very discouraging. Please need advice from SOMEONE who has gone through this would be greatly appreciated. (I know we …

I am so excited. I have my pre surgery consultation tomorrow. They needed to move it up from Monday to Friday so I'm good with that! Gave me a tentative surgery date of the 18th!!! I can't wait. So they asked me to start on the diet now that is supposed to shrink my liver. I see a lot of ppl talk about a liquids diet only before surgery but they asked me to eat only dairy, meat and nuts. I can't wait to see what they say tomorrow in my appointment. I'm so ready!!!

Hi, I have a VSG scheduled for December but I'm still in doubt if I should go for a bypass! I'm 297lb -and 6.0 tall - BMI 39 I was sure about getting a VSG but my endoscopy exam has the following: light esophagitis / Barrett's Esophagus - GERD . To be honest I don't feel anything related to it but I read a lot of articles and comments that VSG is not good for who has reflux. My doctor checked the exam and said would be ok proceed with VSG. I went to another doctor to get a second opinion, he saw my exame and right away said better get a bypass! Next week I will return to my doctor and talk again and might change to bypass. What you guys think? Anyone …

I have done my research, talked with my insurance, started monthly appointments with my PC doctor, and applied for the sleeve at OSU Wexner. I received a message from OSU stating my application was denied due to only having one comorbidity. I called my insurance back, and they assured me that I only needed one co-morbidity for coverage. In addition, I have another condition (NAFLD) that I don’t take meds for, and thus it wasn’t listed on my application (the application doesn’t ask for diagnoses, just medications). I am sure that my denial was an oversight, but now I am starting to worry. Has anyone else had this kind of problem?

I'm on day 1 of my 2 week protein/clear liquids diet. I cannot get a protein shake down yet! I tried the stuff you mix and it smelled terrible and almost threw up and tried premixed Premier chocolate, but I've only gotten 3 sips down in an hour. I think I can survive on clear liquids and broth for 2 weeks, but these shakes are horrible ?. Should I try protein water, and if so what kind? Did anyone else have this problem?

Hello all.... THis is my first post but I have been lurking and reading for weeks. My insurance doesn't have any requirements for weight checks or weight loss....but my doctor requires 5%. I have been STRUGGLING for the past month and half losing and gaining the same 6 pounds. I have to lose about 10 lbs total now before Dec 13th....any advice. This is the last step for me to get a date and I am really starting to want to give up. I am following around a 1400 calorie plan most days and not drinking any alcohol and at least 100ounces of water a day, sometimes more. I have a lot of excess weight to lose, so it's not that I only have a few pounds to lose..... SHor…

Hi. I'm a Newbie. My gastric sleeve surgery is scheduled for January 2nd. I started the process in May @ 307 lbs (5'7"), and so far have lost 30 lbs with eating modification & exercise. Currently, my exercise consists of weight training and some walking. Having torn meniscus in both knees doesn't permit a lot of walking. For years I used to be an avid gym freak years ago, but shoulder and foot injuries/surgeries, along with personal circumstances had put a damper on that for some time. While I'm looking forward to the surgery and a new beginning, my biggest cause for anxiety is the resulting loose skin. I carry a lot of muscle mass righ…

So day one of the liquid diet is in the books.....turns out I’m not as well read as I should be and also assumed things that I ought not have assumed, for instance finding protein powders on Kodiak Island. My question is this, I need 80 grams minimum of protein per day and I am lactose intolerant. Any ideas other than dairy free protein shakes on how to squeeze that in? Keeping in mind I can’t just go to the store and pick up the plain protein powder I’ve seen explained on this forum?

I quit smoking cigs daily back in July. I have had a couple cheat days here and there and had my last cig on Nov 20th. I wont take the nicotine test until December 14th so that will put me a little over 3 weeks completely nicotine free. My question is, will this be enough time for the nicotine to clear out of my blood so I can pass the test? I'm supposed to be nicotine free at least 3 months before I have surgery but I'm not sure If the blood test can detect nicotine for that long. I've heard its only detectable for about 10 days after your last cig. Has anyone passed a nicotine test after only being nicotine free for about 3 weeks?
