This preop diet is killing me

I'm on day 3 of my 2 week preop diet. The slightest smell of food is making me want to back out of surgery. I'm on 3-4 protein shakes and 3ozs of lean meat and a serving of veggies per day. I'm scheduled for gastric bypass on December 19th. I really need this surgery, but I'M STARVING! Any suggestions on how I can curb or ignore the hunger pains?

I don't know of any way to make the hunger stop, but I can tell you this: day 3 is seriously the worst part. I hated everyone and everything that crossed my path on day 3. The first few days, actually, are completely miserable. BUT, it does get more manageable. If you can hang on a little longer, it's almost as if your body goes, "fine, whatever, do what you want" and sort of gives up on the headaches and crankiness and the worst of the hunger.

Which isn't to say that it becomes easy, but it becomes a bit less hard if you just hang in there. (And if you can make it until surgery, afterward hunger will not be a problem anymore.)

Good luck!

I would agree w that. My pre op diet doesn’t allow anything but liquids so I’m pretty effing hungry! I’m wrapping up day 5....3 to go. Arg!!!

I am 2 weeks post op. Trust me when I tell you that if you can make it through day 3, then you have it. That is the worst day. Day 4 and 5 is much easier!!! Good Luck!

Just remember that it does get easier after surgery!

Don't beat yourself up! Sometimes we have a set back.. getting back up and succeeding is what you need. Do you have someone there to encourage you there? My husband is great to help me realize what I am doing for myself!

We didn't see anything, it never happened, it'll never happened again!

Stay strong and Safe Journey ?

Yes, my husband is awesome. He is actually dieting with me so I won't be alone.

I'm struggling too. I'm on day 6 of a 2 week liquid diet. I'm only getting down water and 1 protein water a day. I can't do the shakes and I'm about to give up ?
