Hi all. I started to have this pain on my left side under my ribs when I breathe. I am 2 years out from surgery and my last fill was early June. I haven't had any problems until yesterday. I took some mylanta in case it was gas, but now I have the pain in my side with some acid reflux. Any ideas? I can eat and drink fine.

I'm on my 7 month journey. Had my first weigh in on Sept. 21st. When I first saw him in March 2015 he seemed to push more towards the band because he has had it done. But I chose RNY because of my families history with diabetes. I have PCOS and very rarely have my period. Maybe 3-4 times a year. My husband and I have actively tried to get pregnant. But my weight keeps getting in the way. Anywho. I'm from Albertville and I have BCBS of AL. I've done a lot of research and I feel RNY is going to suit me best. I was wondering if anyone else in this area has had this done with Dr. GROVES. He said he would ultimately do whichever surgery I wanted. Which made me feel great. Also…

Since my last fill I'm getting this horrible burning sensation in my throat most of the time and specially when I lie down. My band is not that tight and in fact I'm not in green zone yet and so afraid of going for adjustment and making it tighter. I feel it would make it worse. I discuss the issue with my dr but she just gave me anti acid tablets. Does anyone have similar problem? Please guide me. I'm getting so worry

Hi. I've been slacking lately and I know I haven't been getting a lot of Protein. I don't over eat anything, but I haven't been eating all the "right" things for the last week or so - meaning not enough protein and too much junk. My legs and ankles have stayed swollen. Not painfully swollen, but swollen. I had to have my band unfilled by 6cc a month ago and slowly started having it re-filled. I'm now as of last week back to where I was - just over 9cc but the 7 pounds I gained have gone nowhere. Not even for the 3 days I was on liquids after my fill???? I have cut the snacky treats out in the last few days but still haven't been getting much protein. I'm really confus…

My friend told me that you can go back to the post op diet anytime in your lapband journey but I was just wondering if it works?

I heard many things, that can go wrong after you have the sleeve. I am trying to avoid further years to come complications issue w my organs. I believe the lap band will help me and I have less side effects from it. If I have complications I can always take it off, and avoid other issues. I am reading all of your stories, and trying to become a part of the community, but there are few things I am currently unfamiliar with. Like the term "fill?" I saw a spot while creating my profile that asked, "First fill, second fill, third fill?" WHAT IS THAT? -Confused newbie bander

  19. I've been banded for nearly 2 1/2 years and I'm thrilled to say I'm maintaining my weight loss, I do so with a 5-7lbs flex on the scale but I've learned not to freak out about it like I used to, but after 3 weekends in a row of birthday celebrations I just feel like crap. I notice I'm craving things I normally don't and when I walk away from the cravings instead of feeling victorious I feel miserable because I have that feeling of deprivation so I decided today was the day to tune and detox my body so I can fight the rearing head of the carb monster! It's amazing how making the right and wrong food choices totally effects every aspect of your life! So thankful I h…

  21. I had to have a complete unfill Tuesday morning after a suspected slip. Aborted barium swallow on Monday. Had CT today and will know results Monday. Since the unfill, I have had episodes of extreme gas pain/pressure around my rib cage and under my chest that periodically comes and goes. And as of today, my stomach is distended and quite bloated and uncomfortable. What gives???? I'm really hoping my band is ok and no damage has been done so I can get back to normal......

Getting nervous. Surgery for lap band Dec 1. I know women from work who have been very successful with the band. My sister lives overseas and had the sleeve this last year, having issues. Sounds like she has to have surgery for scarring. All the literature is saying to get a sleeve instead of the band. I know that there are less absorption issues with the band. My mom had a gastric bypass a very long time ago and can't absorb Calcium and has osteoporosis. I've got osteopenia of a small section if my lower spine so doing everything to work in bone growth. I'm also a RN. I exercise but broke my knee and arm 3 years ago so impact exercise is out. I swim, bike, do the row m…

I'm getting the band in Tuesday but I'm ready so many people are getting switched over to the sleeve. My doctor does less bands and more sleeves now. I'm concerned about not absorbing Calcium as I have some osteopenia. My mom had gastric bypass years ago and can't absorb calcium and has osteoporosis. My sister recently has had issues with her sleeve she needs surgery for scar tissue. Too much info out there. Me being a R N doesn't help. Are people happy with their bands? Why did you choose the band? Anyone recently get banded and why that choice?

Surgery is in 2 1/2 weeks. Haven't been doing the diet the surgeon gave me. I told her that looked awful and she just said, "don't gain any more weight between now and the surgery". I haven't been paying attention and might have gained some; i'm not sure. Tomorrow I want to do what I need to do to get on track. They only require a liquid diet 24 hours before surgery. liquids only one week post-op then mushies. They seem liberal compared to others. What is the fastest way to shrink my liver? Low carb? Low Fat? Low Calorie? Any suggestions? Marieze

  26. It's been a long time since I've posted anything on here. It's been almost 2 years since I had my lapband. I've done great. Met my goal weight about a year ago and have maintained since then. However, I have to admit that over the past couple of months I have noticed some of my old habits creeping back up. Eating too fast. Eating slider foods. Not exercising as much. The problem is that A) I'm extremely stressed out right now as I am in school working on a master's degree and my husband and I are getting a divorce. And I think some of it is that, having met my goal and maintained for a little while, I've gotten a little too comfortable, if you know what I mean. Anyway, I…

I am 12 months post-op and go along pretty well with the amount of food I can consume. I've recently worked out that that if I leave it too long between meals (longer than 4-5 hours) my band feels a little tighter than normal and I sometimes get things stuck. I do try to avoid leaving it so long, but on busy days when I don't get around to eating, I've noticed this. Does anyone else have the same issues?

And not to even want to eat (nothing sounds good) or (stomach says no?) and when it says no do you still do it?

I had my band out on 10/27. I had some strong gas pains and tenderness the first 5-7 days, but really saw them disappear by the end of week 2. My doctor had told me no more restrictions from a day to day activity after week 2, including no weight restrictions but to take it slow. At about 2 1/2 weeks post op, I had a fairly active day, running errands, walking, etc. I did scrub a couple floors and did lift a box that probably weighed close to 40 lbs. That night I noticed when sleeping if I attempted to roll to my side, it instantly felt like I was ripping/pulling something in my stomach. When I got up the next morning, any movement had the pain sharp pull/ripping fe…

And more often than not, I am eating more than I should. I presumed it was stress eating, head hunger, happy new relationship overeating, blah blah blah. Turns out, I'm just plain hungry. Went to see my doctor and told her of my struggles. I've gained ten pounds over the last six months. Some of my clothes are getting tight. I refuse to buy anything that's going to accommodate weight gain. My doctor explained that the fat cells aren't gone..they're just dormant. And now, they are waking up again an…

  36. I had to jump through many hoops to be okayed for Lap Band placement because of age. I feel a little pressure because I was of an age that my surgeon felt hesitant to take me. (My family begged a little because of the onset of high blood pressure, boarder line diabetes, obesity & etc. for which I was taking meds.) I had my surgery at a teaching hospital and when we checked with my insurance company they were enthusiastic. Better to treat before onset of a disease rather than after. Anyone know of older patients?

Hi! I've been banded since 2009. I know there are many threads about band to sleeve, but I specifically would like to know: Those who switched from band to sleeve; what is the main difference you noticed as far as your eating habits (ability to eat, how much you could eat, how you tell you have eaten enough, etc) without the band giving you a "hard stop"? Do you feel just as or more successful? Do you think it's easier to over eat with the sleeve? I'll have to have my gallbladder out - and am considering having revision to the sleeve at the same time. I discussed with my surgeon and he said yes he could do both at once. I keep going back and forth about doing it. I'm …

So i had shared that I had relocated and one Dr only wanted to fill under FLOURO. Because I am in Healthcare.... I am a bit skeptical at the unneeded extra radiation. Blah Blah Blah. So... I did some homework and found another DR. *** I havent had a fill in 1 year and had gained 15 lbs in the past 90 days. So....... HE did a withdraw and found I was 3.2 cc and added 1 cc = 4.2. But I am not feeling the restriction..... either at all or yet. I will see if there needs to be a few days of settling. At any rate... I think he was being cautious to set a benchmark and see where to go from there. Also.. I have the APS band which has a fill line of 10cc. So I am not yet out o…

I went for an upper GI barium swallow this am as I have been having trouble with my band the past month and having almost everything come back up and feeling unusually tight. The upper GI was aborted after the first swallow as there appeared to be near complete obstruction and on the report the radiologist recommended urgent referral to a barbaric surgeon. I live two airplane rides away from my original surgeon, so he had set me up with a general surgeon who worked under him to do my adjustments. I see him first thing tomorrow morning to have fluid taken out. How much, I don't know yet (already freaking out about that and the possible weight gain and how long until …

I went back for a handful of pretzels three...no...four times last night. I couldn't stop myself. So for punishment, I got on the scale this morning and saw that I was above 125. I swore I'd never put the weight back on but it's now more than 12 pounds from my lowest. I'm learning such a good lesson over this struggle to keep the weight off. I will always have the disease of obesity. I may have it under control at times, but I'll never be free of it. If my band isn't working, I'm going to put th…

Last friday I saw my dietician she told me that the first day of the fill to be only fluids the second day on soft and normal from 3rd day. My surgeon tells me after the fill I can go on normal straight away. A bit confusing. So i had decided to go with the dietician. This morning I actually had breakfast, 2 egg cheese omelette and a toast with honey yep a bit too much but all went well. The last couple of days I had been quite hungry so the fill was perfect timing. Ok so after an hour of the fill I start to feel hungry but i had so muc…

  44. I had lapband surgery back in March 2012...the first 18 months I did really well with very little issues. Then they put my band at 5cc, and everything went down hill from there. I had to have Fluid removed because I couldn't hold anything down, and even when fluid was taken out, within a few weeks the same problem came back. Long story short - August 2014, I had to wait over a month to get an appointment, so I went over a month throwing up daily solids, liquids, mushy foods. Nothing stayed down period. So when I finally got in, I asked them to just take the fluid out completely. They got most of it, or so I was told, and my per visit price "doubled" to almost $200. I wa…

  46. Hello, first time posting here. Had lap band surgery with Dr. George Fielding in January, 2010. Over the course of the first year I lost 100 pounds without having a single fill. I stopped seeing him regularly and have now gained nearly all the weight back and want to know if it's too late for me to go back to him and start getting fills. I know it was foolish and arrogant to think I'd be able to do this on my own. I should add that the lap band as is does make me eat more slowly and I will occasionally throw up if eating doughy things at too fast a clip. Any advice appreciated!!!!
