LAP-BAND support. Fills, the band diet, complications, band removal, and revision to sleeve or bypass.

I used to consider myself a night owl, going to bed around 1 or 2 am and sleeping for maybe 4.5 hours. But now, I CANNOT wait to get to bed by 10:30, and that's stretching it. I can barely keep my eyes open! I am almost 4 years out with a lap band and am at goal. I take a Multivitamin and B12 daily (mostly) but probably don't get enough Protein. Anyone else dragging?

I know everyone is different but can some of you tell me how long you think I should stay home after surgery? I mainly sit at a desk all day but will I even feel like doing that 3 days after LB? I am having surgery on a Friday and going back to work on Tuesday. My doctor just says everyone is different and needs are different. Please give me your thoughts and advise. Thanks!

I am a little over four weeks out from surgery and weight loss has stalled. I lost 15 lbs. during the pre surgery diet and 14 lbs since surgery but...only 1 lb. in the last 2 weeks. Why is it slowing so much? I eat between 1000-1200 calories daily and log my food in myfitnesspal. My doctor cleared me for exercise so I've started using the elliptical this week. My job is not sedentary also. I go in next week for my first fill, but does that mean I should be eating under 1000 calories to keep losing? I'm very frustrated at this point and hope weight loss will resume soon. I've been trying everything I can think of/read about - more water, green tea, etc. but come on! Could …

Had my first fill today... three months to the day from my October surgery. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was really easy and uneventful. Phew, what a relief! I was the first Lap Band "installation" my hospital had done in almost three years. I'm in one of the areas currently instituting a full-court press to talk folks out of banding and into other procedures. The consensus today was that I'm doing better with weight loss than most of their gastric sleeve patients. Yippee! So far, so good. Still 100% happy with my choice and so thankful the doctors agreed to trust in me that I had proper expectations and would follow the rules.

I was eating what I thought was a healthy meal at work, and my food ended up getting stuck. I'd never been in so much pain and I ended up needing to have my lapband unfilled completely. I've been so hungry and eating like crazy! I've been on this journey for almost 5 years and haven't made much progress or what I would like. I think I'm depressed! :/

  8. I thought it might be FUN to ask you all what the rudest comment you have had is and how you responded! I'll get it started: Last weekend, I went for my hair appointment. I had not been for 9 or 10 weeks. When she saw me, she said, "You've lost a lot of weight...did you have gastric bypass?" I couldn't believe she would ask such a personal question...people sure are bold! I simply replied, "Nope, I didn't." And that was the truth!

So I had my band placed 3 years ago, right away I got pregnant. My daughter is now two and I am so ready to start over. I had my first fill last Thursday. Since then I have been having pain with liquids and soft foods. Last night I woke up feeling like I was drowning and chocking from the acid reflux. The heart burn is so bad now I am sleeping in a recliner . I see the doctor tomorrow for some fluid removed. I am so discouraged. I just want this to work. I am tired of living overweight. I have tried everything. I'm about to give up.

  13. Hi, I am confused. I have had my band 8 months now and despite initial difficulties I seem to have settled in really well and have experienced the positive aspects of life that the band and adjustments to life they bring, I have noticed in the last couple of months a more obvious restriction when I am under pressure. I have a natural anxious disposition, though not strong enough for medication etc, but have noticed that there is bouts of time that I simply cannot eat very much at all, when I have a work deadline or a pending visit from the dreaded inlaws. - (I already am very sensible, 24/7, but in these few days of anxiety I can only take fluid). I have been banded over 13 years and have kept off over 100 pounds. I was currently back up 30 pounds due to slipping back into bad habits and a new very sedentary job but have already lost 7 again. I love this thing! I find that for me if I just listen to my band and try to follow the rules I do fine. I am very comfortable at a BMI of 27 and this is what I am aiming for again. I still want to lose like 25 pounds but I know that with my band's help I can do it!

I had the lap band with plication surgery. I notice that it is tight around the band and it is very uncomftorable. I also have depression. I can feel clenching and cramping around the port area. Can they remove this band? They said something about removing it to me.

  17. Since there are so many beautiful trails and scenic vistas I thought a bander group could get together for fun and NSV's. Takers?

  19. How long did it take to get back to a point where you were losing weight again?? I have had to have a complete unfill and gained almost 20lbs. I am now close to where I was before I had the unfill (previously at 5.6 and now at 5.0) and while I feel close to 'green' I know i am not quite there. It's a catch 22. I know I need to go tighter as I am still not feeling satiety for long enough like before and it takes more food to feel full than before. But the closer I get to my old number, the more scared I get I will have problems again and have to have fluid taken out. And despite the fact I am exercising daily, the scale still isn't moving! I was def a binge eater because of depression for the last few years, always resorting to the wrong foods and a lot of them. This could be very good news for a lot of people around the planet: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/science/science-news/12068531/Anti-sweet-tooth-hormone-discovered-by-scientists.html " The researchers say that FGF21 is produced in the liver in response to high carbohydrate levels. The hormone then enters the bloodstream, where it sends a signal to the brain to suppress the preference for sweets. The study's co-senior author Doctor Matthew Potthoff, assistant professor of pharmacology in the University of Iowa in the US, said: "This is the first liver-derived hormone we know that regulates sugar intake specifically." Previous research explains how certain hormones…

So here I am in the ER :/ I had my LapBand placed 13 months ago and mostly things have been great. A couple of times I've been too tight. When I have the adjustment at the docs office I'm fine, I can easily drink Water before I leave. Then days or weeks (sometimes many weeks later) I have a few stuck incidents, which create inflammation and get worse and worse until I can't comfortably eat or drink. Once before I couldn't swallow my own saliva which was very worrisome. Luckily all of these incidents happened on week days when my doc's office is open so I could get in same day or early the next day for care. Unfortunately this time it happened on a Saturday. Friday ev…

  33. Hi everyone, I'd like to share a horrible experience I had this past weekend while attending a holiday get together with family. This is a pretty long post so I apologize in advance for any long winded-ness. I was banded back in July of this year. So far, I have had no complications and few, if any, side effects. I have had one fill and so far have lost 73 pounds. I have been very pleased with my experience and results and I do not want anyone to think that the following story is meant as a deterrent to those considering the lap-band, or gastric surgery in general. I am sharing this as a way to provide a perspective from a first hand experience with band abuse/misuse…

  34. I got my band in 2004, and lost 50 lbs and kept that off, but REALLY need to lose another 50 lbs. I got complacent. With the band, I would just never know WHEN I would have a bad experience with food, so I stayed with what I knew was ok. Believe it or not frozen pizza was (is) the mainstay of my diet! I could eat anything crunchy so crackers and cookies were always a good bet! Potato chips and torrtia chips were ok also! However, I started getting GERD. Bad. Then my brother died very suddenly (6 weeks) from esphogal (sp?) cancer. Scared me! I had an endoscopy to be on safe side. It showed Barrett's esophagus! Which are bad tissues that COULD eventually turn into canc…

Because, it takes so long to prove you band is messed up I have spent the majority of the last three years with it not working properly. Then by the time it did work again, we overfilled and to go to ER. I'm finally at restriction and starting again. What's your journey been like? I just lap band, nothing else. I'm wishing they would have done more, but can't afford the surgery.

  36. I'm nearly three weeks post-op and I have gotten the nasty could, cough, and congestion that my two boys have had. I have not had a fill yet but did have a hiatal repair when I had my surgery. Everything was going good until now. I feel miserable from these "cold" symptoms. I bought a liquid Robitussen that isn't really working. I used to take Mucinex but don't know if I can still take that but in liquid form (did I mention I hate liquid medicines?). What do you take for these symptoms that works? What for the daytime when I have to work and what at nighttime when I don't have about drowsiness? I'm going out of town for Christmas so I need to be better before then.

I've just had my 8th fill and now up to 6.9 ml/cc. Everything seemed fine first couple of days. Tonight though I've eaten some meat that wasn't the best quality and it got stuck. So I went to the bathroom about 5 times to try and bring it up. I thought I had got it all but I now can't drink water without having to sick up. I'm now scared to go to sleep because I can't even seem to keep down my saliva. Something must still be stuck but I can't seem to dislodge it, any ideas of what to do?

  39. Banded 3/19/2012 this summer had to get all fluid taken out. Lost total of 40 lbs, gained back 30 recently. Dr wanted to do revision, bc of stomach coming up over band. Insurance wouldn't pay for new wls so, I said to keep my band. I'm all good now, it went back down with unfill and liquid diet. I go next week for another fill(3rd since unfilled), right now I still have no restriction. With my Dr hating the band now, and not doing them anymore, I feel so isolated. Started local support group this week, but no one has had the band. I feel like I'm on my own. Could anyone give me an encouraging lapband story?

  41. I had my surgery Oct 24, 2009. I was doing really well for 2+years. I had lost nearly 100 lbs. Then I went on a family trip to Jamaica. While on the plane I took a drink of something (don't remember what now) but it got stuck due to the altitude. I spent the whole week in Jamaica in agony. I couldn't eat anything or drink anything. Since I was out of the country, I obviously did not have access to an unfill. I lost 10lbs on that trip. When I got home, things seemed to get better, so I didn't see my doctor right away. But a week or so later the troubles began again. I went and they did say I had gotten too tight. So I got an unfill. Ever since I have been on a fill/unf…

The last four were bed bound. Loss of use of feet , and then hands ...and his mind kept drifting further away My brother and I opted to keep him comfy at home with help. His fight ended peacefully Monday night. 85 years of love. ???? Wrote his obituary Thursday. Wow one page of a whole life condensed . Just grief and some relief. Just sharing.... I had an incident where chicken got caught and had the cc's removed and endoscopy done. Afterwards, they took 6 months to give me 3cc fill. That's where I am now. I still have moments that I eat too fast or the wrong thing, but I do upchuck but not very often. My problem has been diarrhea and constipation.
