So the thought that this is actually surgery and not something that I should be taking lightly is starting to settle in. I was reading a thread awhile back and some lady had started talking about saying her "i love you"s to her family before she got put to sleep for her surgery. That got me thinking about my daughter... Im 24 years old with a 2 year old daughter. What if this is the last time I saw her? Being a young mother has matured me faster than I would like to admit, and the thought that surgery is very serious keeps creeping into my mind. Does anyone else thing about these things? Someone please calm my nerves!!! Thanks, Caitlyn

This is going to be an interesting week! Thursday I start my one week pre-op liquid diet. I am fortunate to not have to go at it alone. My best friend AND my sister are doing it with me! I'm feeling very blessed by the support of my family and friends! Surgery is on Thursday the 14th at Methodist Dallas with Dr. Colleen Kennedy. I'm READY READY READY!!!! I'd love to have a few sleeve buddies! Anyone have a similar date???

Hello all, I'm 6 weeks out from my VSG surgery and am getting depressed by the second. While I was completely aware that the weight loss results were slower than the bypass...how much slower are we talking about? In the 1st 3 weeks, I've lost a total of about 15-17 lbs (scale varies from docs office to mine) and have been literally stuck there ever since. I have been following my physicians plan of introducing new foods when due and am wondering if the intake of the new solids in my diet could this be the culprit? Due to some incision complications, I have not been able to be as active as I would have wanted to be however as I read through blogs, most patients don't re…

Hey fellow sleevers... just thought I would put this out there for some feedback, firstly, if this, in anyway sounds negative... it is NOT meant to be!!! I am just looking for your thoughts and feelings on this. I am a year out now and life is sweet. This is the best thing I have ever done for myself but I feel like I am now at a crossroads. My weight loss is soooo slow it is painful! I know that my fastest and best time has gone and to be honest, since the New Year, things have been really hard and I have had to fight for every pound lost and inch gone! But that is ok... I am a fighter so I get on with it... Now, I am wondering whether to stop fighting... jus…

I have seen a couple of posts from people worried about taking in too little food, and I thought I'd post this handy hint I learned a long time ago. It's called the "rule of threes" and is a rule of thumb for how long you can survive without basic necessities: 3 minutes without air 3 hours without shelter 3 days without Water 3 weeks without food 3 months without hope The point of my post is that you can survive for three entire weeks without a single bite of food. Obese people like us, perhaps four. So if you're only able to eat 400-500 calories a day, don't fret. You're not going to starve for a long, long time. Just try to make sure that the calories…

Well, this groups isn't very active- but thought I would post that I was finally able to get my sleeve done. It was quite a long journey as I was revised from a VBG by Dr. Sifers 13 yrs ago who has since died in 2005 under a whole spew of lawsuits and medical malpractice suits. Nobody in KC wanted to touch me because they were afraid of what they would find. They wouldn't tell me that to my face, but after enough attempts locally I could take a hint. I had surgery with Dr. Stewart out of Denton, TX and while I think he is a skilled surgeon- his bedside manner could use a HUGE improvement. He also had me staying in a doctor owned surgical facility down there and I wa…

I thought I would have to wait until next week sometime to find out, but had a letter in the mail today from UHC saying that I am covered. I'm very excited. I should still be able to schedule my July 22nd surgery and still keep everything on track now. Very very excited....so planning to start my pre-op diet on July 8th....with my diet consultation on the following Monday the 11th. So very happy! The only thing I am worried about is I also start a summer class and will have a Tuesday and Thursday Class after the surgery. :/ Worried about pushing it....and hoping I can be there mentally. Will have 4.5 days to heal before the Tuesday Class. I should know on Tuesday …

I was diagnosed with PCOS in July of 2006. I got married in March of 2008 and immediately started trying for children. No such luck. Then came the Metformin and later the fertility drugs and about 40 pounds, much to my dismay. I was sleeved on December 2, 2010. I lost 15 pounds on the pre-op diet, and then I lost about 19 more post-op. I've been stuck at that exact weight for almost 2 weeks, and I feel like a TOTAL failure. It's soooooo disheartening, and I feel myself slipping into a big bad funk. I will go back to work on Monday (post holidays, as I'm a teacher), so I'm hoping that will help kick-start the process again. (I plan to take my sneakers and walk dur…

I sure hope to make it in ink for that day....If not then I hope to keep my surgery in for sometime in July. I can't WAIT to watch all you guys go ahead of me. I'm so anxious to get my date for sure. I had a surgery date of July 21st to get Lapband and then changed my mine after reading all the issues involved with Lapband. So here I am. I'm hoping to just move my surgery date up to the 22nd when my Dr. does sleeve surgeries on the next day. I'm hoping that my UHC insurance will feel the same about sleeve as it did for Lapband. I can't wait to get to know you FireCrackers. My birthday is July 16th....I can't think of a better gift to myself than a new beginning.

I'm not giving it 110%. Maybe 75%. I eat protein most of the time but still have plenty of carbs. I rarely exercise. I do write my foods down and drink maybe half of my water each day. I complain I'm not losing any more weight. (Maintaining though) I know what I need to do. I guess I'm not willing to give it more. I have 18 lbs to go till my goal. It does get much more difficult the closer to goal I get. Hopefully I can get some motivation from you guys. Please help me!!

So my husband and I are both sleeved. I'm 8 months post-op and he is almost 4. I have chosen to only tell a very limited few people about my surgery, as I feel that it is my private business medically what I do with my body. I wouldn't expect people who have had breast/prostrate/lung/etc. cancer to walk around advertising all of their medical information and I feel like my VSG is the same. The problem is that obesity is hard to hide and people tend to question you when you are visibily losing weight. My husband feels a bit differently, he has no problem telling someone he had surgery. He has already opened his big mouth to two male friends that I am good friends wit…

Just curious if anyone had their surgery while caring for an infant or toddler. My adorable and active son will be 11 months when I have my surgery. Thankfully, I will have husband and Mom to help me, but I'm sad that I won't be able to pick him up for 4-5 days and am wondering how I will cope!

Hi everyone! I'm so glad this forum is here because I think we have some issues that other sleevers won't understand. I want to formally introduce myself. I'm Shanny, 35 from Baltimore. I started at 5'2" and 247 pounds. Now, I'm 169.4 pounds, and my goal is 145. I'm less than 30 pounds from my goal and boy is it getting harder to stay on track! Between all the cookouts and now I have 2 family reunions this summer...how long am I supposed to resist homemade barbeque? This is so hard! Most of my people don't know that I had surgery. They just think I started dieting and exercising. I told them a year ago that I had to get in shape, so to them I've been on track…

Heading down to San Antonio, then over the border on June 30th to see Dr Alvarez for VSG on July 1st. Is anyone else getting sleeved close to that date? Is anyone else going to Dr Alvarez soon? Everybody on this board is helpful and supportive but it would be nice to have some buddies in the same boat to compare notes with. Any takers?

Never in a million years would I of guessed that I would be so miserable. I'm 9 days post op and can only get down Water. I tried Protein shakes and they KILL my stomach. My doctor said to not drink them again for a while. I'm so sad. I feel like I made a huge mistake. I've posted on this board several times regarding this. Today I almost passed out. Little things like walking 15 feet from my bed to the bathroom makes me dizzy. I really think I need to go in a get fluids. I tried chicken broth today and the smell and taste made me gag. I had been able to tolerate small amounts of that until today. RIght now, I wish I would of never done this. I'm so envious of other…

Hi! I'm in the process of deciding about surgery and just trying to collect as much information as I can. This forum is an amazing resource. :-) I realize VSG is a tool and that regain is possible if you aren't careful. On other WLS forums (RNY, Gastric bypass, band...) I hear some people talk about regaining a significant portion of their lost weight, even all of it. But I have yet to read about a "sleever" regaining more than 20-25 pounds. So my question is ... are there any sleevers out there who have experienced this higher level of regain that other WLS patients have? No judging - I know life gets in the way of the best intentions! I just wondered if I haven…

I took my first Zumba class yesterday. It was fun! I had to sit down during one of the songs and catch my breath - but other than that - I stayed moving for the whole class. My body was asking "what the heck did we do?" the rest of the day. Can't wait to go back to class again. And, as an added benefit, I think it shook some stuff loose inside me - the dam broke today and I am no longer constipated.

I am so excited to find this group. I too am a major gym freak even without weight loss. So, I was wondering how people who excersised alot previuosly do after the surgery. I know that when anyone start to move, that will help with weight loss but what about those of us who were already doing that with no wt. loss results. will we be just as successful?

Currently I am doing very well with my weight loss. I have rocked my sleeve all the way down from 298lbs to 181lbs. I feel like I am doing a fantastic job. I love life and my new changing body. Well lately everyone has been constantly asking me how small am I going to get? My response has been, I don't know either 175lbs or 150lbs where ever my doctor and I feel comfortable. Now mind you I have been with my husband for like 5 years. But I have never asked him what he thought about my weight or for that matter has he mentioned anything. He was very supportive about my having the surgery. He is still very supportive. I just so happen to ask him, at what wo…

Howdy I live in East TN and am going through the last 3 months of an insurance required medically supervised diet before I will have approval for my surgery. Hopefully, I will have it in October (just before the big eating holidays-what am I thinking). I would love to know if each of you have any regrets about your surgeries and if you had any complications you would like to share. I started out weighing 324 and have been trying to eat like I will have to after surgery and have gotten down to 287 today. Any information would be greatly appreciated from you both. thank you so much for letting me join and be a part of this healthy lifestyle change for us all.

I went to Loft today and caught a major sale. A friend gave me a gift card before I could even fit into their clothes! I held onto it and used it today. I tried on a pair of size 12 shorts...too big...then a 10 and I thought...Oh no..this can't be!! I felt like Diva when I took a picture of my shorts. One of these days, I will figure out how to post pics. Mine all seem too big. My first goal is to weigh 150 (I am 164 now). Then I will set another goal of 5 pounds... I was so scared to have the sleeve after the LapBand nightmare...So glad I did. I am LIVING for the first time in many years. NSV for you... I waiter spilled a drink on me at a bar b…

Hey everyone, Wanted to apologize for being missing in action for a while. I have gone through some major life changes, some good, some not so good. I also have been without a computer for quite a while. The good news is, I only have to save up $100.00 more and I will finally have one again. I can't wait! But, I still love VST and am going to try and be back on as much as possible offering you support, sharing in your triumphs, and gaining the continued support I need. For those of you that are new and don't know me, hopefully we will get to know each other now! Love you guys!

Ok, this one came as a complete shock to me. I am one and a half months out of surgery, and I must share this with women who are suffering like me. There are not too many, but I suffer from a bizarre array of Pre-Menstral Symptoms. I don't just get the bloating, and poopy face (mood swings lol) I get nausea, vomiting, extreme fatigue, headaches, and serious cotton mouth. It lasts for a bout 3 days each month for me. It seems worse now witht hte sleeve, I can't just drink a bunch of Water, take my stomach med and go sleep for 3 days. I was feeling particularly gross yesterday. But I had to get my protien in. Well, after I drank my protien shake (I double up on th…

Hello, my name is Traute and I started my weight loss journey when I reached 375 pounds. My sleeve surgery was on February 25, 2009. Today I am 270 and feel alot better than I did 100 pounds ago, however I have figured out a way to eat around my sleeve. I found out that I can eat alot popcorn giving me that feeling of binging again - the popcorn simply dissolves. I found out that I can drink Frozen Cokes (slurpees where I live) - ok so I go to the bathroom alot. I eat chocolate bars - no problems. I can have 1 piece of pizza and be full. I can eat 1 scrambled egg with cheese with no problem. If I drink milk or Protein shakes too fast, I get nauseous. Needless to …

Most guy's don't go to Doctor's. I went a few years ago to my family Doctor & he said my wieght was fine because I did not have anything else wrong. My wife was hoping he would put me on a diet. I was told to start walking. (yea right.) Then this year got a new Doctor. My first visit was a blood work & meet & greet meeting. He told me "When You come back we are going to do something about that wieght." Now this time I relized I was in trouble. Stuff was starting to bother me & I was ready. I was excited when I went back 3 weeks later. I got a regular man's physical & my wieght was 290. He didn't say anything about my wieght! WTF! I asked him ab…

I'm angry at myself, 10 lbs to goal and have been stalled for months and it's my fault. I am not working my sleeve as well as I could. I've been going through old pictures to remind myself why I had this operation done in the first place and I can see why. I was obese and unhappy . Now I'm still overweight, so I need to finish what I started. Feel free to tell me off for being a complete idiot and not making the most of what God so kindly gave me, a new lease of life, MY SLEEVE!! OK now I can't figure out how to post my pictures, but they're in my gallery if you want to have a look

Hi- I have been on a 3 day trip for an orientation at my daughters college - so far the food I brought has been the best. - yogurt and cottage cheese. the free continental breakfast was nothing but sugar and starch... lunch at school, I had some taco chicken and refrybeans- maybe 3 oz. dinner was a shrimp cocktail- 1 oz,... it is real hard to eat... and today it was harder to drink water... like I am going backwards... Tomorrow we travel home... gonna look for a scrambled egg, lunch will be greek yogurt.... dinner at home. I sure hope the feeling as if I am gonna be sick right after eating, goes away...

Hi all- I'm 26, living in VA , and currently waiting on approval from my insurance company. I called my surgeons office today and the nurse told me they sent my paperwork in for approval last Friday. My mother had RNY Gastric Bypass surgery a couple years ago and she's doing well. I've been thinking about it for the past year but never really pursued it. A couple months ago I had a conversation with a coworker who had lap band surgery last year and she suggested I check out her doctors office. And here I am. I'm nervous and anxious. I look forward to chatting with you all!

I just had my 2 month check up with Dr. Hoehn and I am down 40lbs. I'm hoping to remember to do my measurements tomorrow. I was almost in a size 20 pants and am now in some of my bigger 14s, from 40/42 G bra to a 38DDD, usually wore 22/24 shirts at lane bryant or xl t-shirts and now 14/16 and larges. I even wore a bathing suit in public a couple weeks ago when I took my daughter and her friend to the Water park (which I would have NEVER done before)! Life is good! How is everyone else doing?

Woke up Sunday just like any other day. Felt fine a little tired. (been working a lot of overtime) so sent hubby off to work. Began the ritual of cleaning, out of no where came this evil woman. I have never acted like that. I knew this time was coming, i just wasn't expecting anything like that. What intensified this day was the end of TOM. Oh boy I was so horrible to my husband on the phone he didn't have a clue. I so apologized to him. He laughed and said he now knows what to be on the look out for. He had no idea what came over me. He honestly thought I went over the edge. (straight jacket stuff) Way too much estrogen here. Hope next month isn't as bad. Deb

I posted before that I was thinking about changing my goal. I decided that at 145 I'll be happy. I'll never be 110, which is what the stupid chart says that I will be considered "healthy". I think one of my leg bones weighs that much alone. Plus, I like my curves and I like being "thick". I don't want to be skinny, just healthy. So, that brings me to the final stretch... Lord it's hard. I find the closer I'm getting to my goal the more crap I'm eating. I don't even know why. I've been able to eat what I want for a few months now, But lately all I want is stuff I'm not supposed to have. I still eat small portions, but my choices need some serious reevaluation. …

I just had my first support group tonight for Dr Teng's program. It really is refreshing to see so many that have had WLS. There were R-n-Y, Lap-Band and VSG people there. I don't know if anyone from here was present but feel free to drop me a line (anonymously if you'd like). While I can certainly understand if you don't want to say who you are you can nonetheless look on my profile page to get a picture of me. Maybe at the next meeting you can say hi to myself or my wife before, during or afterwards. I appreciate the people that came out to share their experiences and trials. If any of you read this I thank you. I also hope to see you for years to come as this is not a …
