  2. Hello everyone I am new to the whole banding process. Everyone I talk to says they know someone that has a horror story related to it. But I sometimes think they confuse it with other types of stomach surgeries. I guess I feel that at this point it is still not enough to convince me to stop looking, if they had struggled with being overweight most of their life as I have they may feel the risk would be worth it too. I am needing some feed back on finding doctors in the DFW Texas area that are experienced with the whole banding process and good at what they do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am still nervous but determined. Thanks to all of you who reply.:cou…

Hey everyone, Long story short - I have had severe complications with my lap band (very rare infectious disease) and I need a doctor located in or near Waco, TX. to remove my band. I can't go back to my current doctor because he "doesn't want to" remove the band. Any recommendations? I have BlueCross Federal insurance. Thanks everyone!

I am looking for anyone who had the surgery done by the Veterans Hospital Admin. I was told that some of the VA hospitals now do the surgery. I also know that TriCare (for the retired and family) will cover it.

  9. A friend and I are both thinking of going the LAP Band route and want GOOD professional EXPERIENCED surgery at a price we can afford. Elyzea seem to be a good outfit but would like to have feedback and if anyone has other options to consider I would like to hear them before I commit to anything. I have a BMI of 36  and my friend is 31 and increasing :confused2:! Are the follow ups and fills included and if not with them who does have them inclusive? I live in Northamptonshire and my friend in London/Surrey In anticipation of your kind advice...... THANK YOU!

I'm completely new to all of this...I know there are many in just my position, and I'm hoping you'll (yet again!) be willing to help. I'm in process with two doctors: Rumbaut in Monterrey; and Dr. Ariel Ortiz in Tijuana. I'm really torn! I feel as though I've done the research, read all the postings, verified credentials...but it's challenging to get a sense of what's true and what isn't, especially when it's from afar. On the surface, Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana has the credentials that make me feel a little more secure...but I really don't know. I'd truly appreciate any help in deciding! OH...my BMI is 37/38, but my insurance company denied me because I don't have di…

  33. I have had several fills and I can still eat bread! I have a hard time with protein staying down. And I can eat way too much at a time, espceially at certain times of the day. In the mornings till mid afternoon, nothing but liquids will stay down. But after that....I can usually get down pretty much everything. I don't eat near what I used to, but I still think I eat too much for someone with a band. I was banded in December and have only lost 26 pounds, I had hoped for more by now. I'm not sure if I will be able to tell what the sweet spot is, since sometimes I can eat bread, and other times, I have to be careful with a protein shake. Thanks:blush:

My husband is in the military and we are stationed in Italy. I went through Tricare and they said I would go through Dr. Franco Favretti and Dr. Segato here in Vicenza Italy. They were both wonderful, very professional, they both spoke perfect English and there were no complications! I would reccomend these Dr's to anyone who is thinking of getting this surgery. The have done thousands of lap band procedures and his statistics are very very good. You can look him up on : LAP-BAND: Laparoscopic Obesity Surgery and click on surgery team in the paragraph to the right. Dr. Favretti has many American Patients. Vicenza is only about an hour from Venice, so you can come get the …

Dr. Bagan performed my sugery on May 21. I can't say enough about him only that he really cares for his patient and provides excellent support through the entire process. His bariatric nurse Sandy is just wonderful and demonstrates that they cannot do enough for you to be successful. If suregeons and nurses were all like this it would be a better health care system. Highly Recommended:thumbup:

I just received an email from the doctor that my PCP told me to go see saying he was out of network for my insurance but that he does see BC/BS patients....this is what he said partially... "Initially you will need to pay $212 for the consultation and then pay before surgery: $5500 for laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery; $3488 for Laparoscopic Lap-Band or Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy; $7500 for laparoscopic duodenal switch with BPD. BC/BS will then reimburse you by sending you a check to your home that is based on your benefits after you file the consult fee and then the surgeons fee's (again the hospital and anesthesia fees are covered if they approve you for sur…

It has been a while since I have been on the site. We moved out of state and one thing leads to another and now I am back doing research on the band. Needing to look in to where I can go in Alabama or Georgia for the banding and then for subsequent fills and care. We live near Auburn and very close to Columbus, GA. Atlanta isn't too far, but would really like to find something closer if possible. If I find a surgeon to do the surgery, even if it is a distance away, what are the chances of finding a Dr. closer by that would "take over" from there to do the fills??

I had signed up for an upcoming "free" seminar with Dr. Spiegel's office some time ago (before deciding on a different doc) and today I got my reminder call telling me not to forget to bring my $200 "co-pay" for my seminar and consultation. Oh, and payment for my "free" seminar would only be accepted in cash or money order! This cracks me up for some reason. Probably because 1) my insurance does not have any co-pay's for anything, so calling any payment I have to bring a "co-payment" is highly misleading and 2) I checked on his site again today and it still says this is a FREE seminar. Do all the docs that run these seminars end up charging you something lik…
