Dr.Aceves Or Dr.Huacuz?

Recommended Posts

Hi , I'm Interested In Having Lap Band Surgery And I've Been Looking Arround For Doctors In Mexico . The Doctors That I'm Looking In To Are Dr.huacuz And Dr.aceves , And So Far I've Heard Some Good Things About Dr.aceves And I've Also Heard Some Good And Bad Things About Dr.huacuz . Some Feed Back On Both Doctors Would Be Greatly Appreciated .

Now , I Do Have Some Questions About Dr.huacuz :

Is He Really Inamed Certified ?

I've Heard He Is Not Very Good At Stitching , Is There Anyone In This Forum Who Experienced This Problem With Dr.huacuz?

Thank You

Hey there. I went through the same thing. I had a hard time deciding between the two doctors, but in the end, I used Dr. Huacuz. I have to tell you I was REALLY HAPPY with my results. I was treated wonderfully by everyone on his staff. He is EXTREMELY Professional and really seems to know his business. He definately used an INAMED band.... he brought it to me in the box in the plastic and had me sign several documents that showed the ID #, He gave me the matching ID# incase I ever had any problems... it all seemed on the up and up if you ask me. My stitches healed BEAUTIFULLY!!!! You can barely see them, which shocks me when I think back to what they looked like after I originally had my surgery! Anyway, I know there are some really strange posts on here about Dr. Huacuz, but I am here to tell you that for me, he was an EXCELLENT choice, and if I had to do it again..... He would definately be my first choice of Doctors. If you want any other information feel free to PM me. I live in Orange County, CA.

I can tell you MY experience with Dr. Huacuz.

I have no idea what being "Inamed Certified" REALLY means, some people have said there is no such thing as being "Certified" by Inamed, however they have to be Proctored or trained in some way before Inamed will let the doctor purchase from them?? I don't know.

I DO know that I was given an Inamed band, we took pictures of me holding it, I have the little card with the serial number on it, I signed some seal on the box.

As far as his stitches, I have no idea why he doesn't use the ones that dissolve. I did go to a local doctor to have my stitches removed. As far as not being very good at stitching, I'm not sure if you mean the incisions or the placement of the band and port, but my incisions were stitched very well, even my local doctor thought they looked really good, he managed to say that in between his lecture about going to Mexico in the first place! It ended up being a good thing that I had to go have the stitches removed because it helped me relax about my decision about going to Mexico, having my doctor say things looked really good made me feel more at ease.

I won't bore you with my whole story but to sum it up, I really liked Dr. Huacuz, he was the best. I didn't have any complications, not even nausea that some people say they experience.

I haven't lost as much weight as I would have hoped by now, you may see that in my ticker, but that is completely my fault because I have only gotten one fill because the distance between me and the doctor that will do the fills for Mexican patients is a 4 hour drive one way. I need to get another fill soon!!!

If you would like more details about my experience with Dr. Huacuz, please let me know. I would not hesitate to recommend him, I think he was wonderful.

Good luck with your decision, I'm sure Dr. Aceves is an excellent doctor as well!!

I live in North Dakota, but thanks anyway! There is a doctor only an hour away that does the lapband surgery but won't do fills for non-patients. BUMMER!

I am oging to be banded by dr. aceves in a couple weeks but would like a contact in the United States. No one in my fam (or my friends) know I am getting banded. The stigma is too much.

My daughter was banded by Dr. Huacus last June and the only thing that went wrong was that she developed a Water pouch over her port site. When we got her home it began to drain on its own and her doctor here told her as long as it was clear and not smelly she was fine. We had the band placed a the Molding Clinic which I don't recommend to anyone. I know many people liked Andres but he was rude to us and would not get Dr Huacuz when my daughter was vomiting. Dr Huacuz always visits his patience and he gave her a shot and he stayed with her until she stopped. I liked him alot.Like other people he show us the band and we signed the package and he took pictures of it so we know that we got the Iname band. I had my band done by a Dr Joya in PV mexico in aug of 2004. I have lost 100lbs and have 60 to go and it has changed my life.

I had a great experience with Dr. Huacuz. He is neither bargain basement nor cheap. I didn't feel like my life was at risk at any time and he did a great job. I would gladly send any of my loved ones to him.

I too had excellent treatment by Dr. Aceves, and would gladly recommend him!! There were others more expensive and others less expensive, but we knew others who had used Dr. Aceves before us. It was a great decision!

They both have excellent reputations and a long list of satisfied patients. I had surgery with Dr. Huacuz, and couldn't speak more highly of him. He and his associate Dr. Romero are first class, but you honestly can't go wrong with either Huacuz or Aceves.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
