Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals

Anyone had surgery w/ Dr Joya in PV, Mexico? I sent a request in and got a email back saying they require a $1250 non-refundable deposit and that I should transfer it into such and such account or else wire it. I found that a little stange and am concerned about losing my $. I have sent the same email to several Docs and so far I have only gotten a response from him and Dr De La Garza. From what I gather from Dr Joya's site everything, even airfare is covered for $9750. This is the beat deal, but I don't want to be cheap with such serious surgery. :clap2: This doctor is far and away THE BEST LAPBAND/Bariatric surgeon in all of N and S America. He has done THREE THOUSAND lapband procedures alone and is himself banded. He studied with Dr. Favretti. THE MASTER in Padua italy as did his chief assistant. Even my skeptical mechanical engineer husband, who is considering getting the band, says it is a NO BRAINER to go back to Monterrey and have Dr. Rumbaut place his band. San Jose hospital is FIRST class. I've had the band since June 1 and have had NO TROUBLE whatsoever and I'll be 58 on July 17. Nancy

I also posted this on "fills". However, I was hoping someone here could help as well... I am planning on having surgery in Mexico in the first week in June. I need a dr. close for after care and fills. Does anyone have suggestions? The dr I went to locally for info about WLS (before I knew insurance wouldn't cover) won't do it because I am going out of the country :biggrin:

Hello Everyone, I'm seriously considering LapBand procedure. I've been to two seminars already. I guess this is not really a question, but I would love everyone's opinion on this. Between the two doctors, I don't know which doctor to pick. Here are some of their info. 1) Dr. O: His office claimed that he had done 2,000 + bariatric surgery. (He wasn't at the seminar because he just had a knee surgery). The cost of the surgery is $ 16,800 which includes 1 year of fills. However, after 1 year, if I need to get a fill, it would costs me about $ 250/fill. His office is 15 mins from my work. I had asked the doctor if I could maybe set up an appt to meet with the doctor…

I had my Psych evaluation on 2/04. That was the last appointment I need to keep before meeting with the surgeon. It is now 2/22 and I haven't heard anything from their office. I have been referred to Dr. Cook at Hickory Surgical Clinic in NC. I know it's not been that long, but I'm SOOO anxious! How long did you all have to wait before getting the appointment to see the surgeon?

Well yesterday was my very first consultation to discuss having the lapband surgery with Dr Wade Barker in Dallas Tx. i will say i was quite disappointment when i got there at 3:30 and was not seen until 6pm. his staff is overwork and very stressed!! he obviously is overbooked!! my reason for choosing him was that i am going to have to pay cash since my insurance wont cover the surgery and he is 3000 cheaper than other docs in my area... after he explained the procedure he opened the door walked me up to the counter and said someone will schedule your surgery...YIKES!! i have no idea what to expect? what to eat days before? what TO DO or NOT TO DO? im clueles…

i am looking for a good doctor in the Charlotte,NC area. I am wanting to get the band done soon. What do I need to do. I have contacted my family doctor, and she thinks its a good idea. Should i contact my insurance co, of should i let my doctor contact them.

He is wonderfull, patient and always smiling. I highly recommend to anyone in my area. He works out of "The Palms of Pasedena Hospital" in St. Pete Fl. Love to hear if there are any other Rehnke patients out there.

I am seeking information from people with personal experience with Dr. Rincon in San Antonio, TX, or who are also considering him at this time. I understand he was associated with the Wish Center there until recently, and has now openned his own center in Downtown, SA. I have gone to my seminars and everything and can't for the life of me remember what he requires for post op food stages. Could be I read too much Lapband Talk and swirls my brain :-) I am going to call Monday and get another packet, but a friend of mine is going down town this weekend to hit some health food stores - I wanna go and get some supplies. I am trying to pick a doctor as well as a hospital to have my surgery. I have had a couple of consults with surgeons and have not felt all that comfortable and am curious if anyone on here has a sugestion for a GREAT doctor in this area. Any help is much appriciated! Well, I sure screwed up. I did a ton of research on the procedure but neglected to research a local aftercare facility or doctor. Had surgery in Mexico on Thursday and now have a slight problem with port incision that needs some attention. Does anyone know of a doctor in Michigan (preferrably Grand Rapids or Holland) that will perform aftercare on someone who had the surgery done in Mexico? Thank you Chris

I will be going for my first visit with Dr. Moon on June 7th. He is in an office with 2 other physicians. Dr. McKane and Dr. Cole. Just wanted to know if what happened to me today is normal. In our packet from the seminar, was a sample letter for our PCP to do. I sent mine to my Dr. filling in details for him, including a SASE. Today his assistant called and says the way he usually handles a procedure like this, is I write the letter, then he signs it. So I wrote the letter, following the sample from the LapBand seminar, and am going to drop it off tomorrow. Just wondered if anyone had experienced the same? Thanks

Hey peeps, I am seriously thinking about going to this clinic. I need to know if anyone has gone to them and talk about their experience with them. they are cheaper than Little Rock and Springdale. Since my insurance pays only 5K total I am basically self pay. Tulsa dr's charge 13,900. which is good for me. :eek:

I am about 95% sure i want to have this done and i am narrowing down my surgeon. I have Federal BCBS and Dr Baker and Dr Gibbs are both preferred providers ( Dr. Wellburn is not ). I did a search here and didn't find much. This doctor is near me and has some really good comments on ObesityHelp.com, plus she's in my insurance and has their Aexcel rating (which means I have smaller co-pays, I think). I'm looking for a doctor who recognizes that I research everything and I have strong opinions about some things and want some say in my health care. I'm also going to ask questions. Not all docs like that.

after worrying my you know what off...i am not 4 days post op - 10 lbs lighter and thankful to my doc, G. Ponce de leon and Sugar Land Surgical Hospital (yes there is a town called Sugar Land just outside of Houston) ...what can i say - they were the best. that and these threads have been my support and will be the reasons for my success. thanks to all who post - its what helped me make the decision and helped me through these first days. i am so excited to be starting this new phase of my life. Hi. I'm familiar with some of the other Atl are docs people have mentioned on here. I'm scheduled for sugery on 2/25 with Dr. Hobson at Peachtree Surgical & Bariatrics and it concerns me that I can't find any mention of that group on here. Anyone familiar? I hate to even ask... This whole thing reminds me of when I was pregnant and would get on the chat rooms and then get freaked out because one person would say something to make me second guess myself or my doctor =) The whole love/hate thing with these sorts of forums, right? My husband and I are still doing research and have heard a lot about Dr. Rumbaut. Please share your experiences good AND bad. We need inexpensive due to no insurance coverage and the cost is doubled since we are both doing it. However, I don't want back alley/basement surgery either. (I don't think Dr Rumbaut is back alley) Please help with your feedback - I am anxious to get banded! Tammy

Looking for people who had Dr. Guillermo Alvarez in Mexico and how their lap band surgery went? I am a self-pay and looks like Mexico is the way to go for me. Any info would be helpful. I also have a husband who is not very keen on the Mexico idea.

I was banded in 2005 and I was this doctor's first lap band patient. I felt comfortable having him do the surgery because a rep from the lap band company was going to be in the OR, guiding the surgeon. I never considered the consequences of being his oldest patient (patient with the band the longest). I now have some issues and i feel like he doesn't know how to deal with them. What i would like is a recommendation for a doctor in NJ, one who has done lots of surgeries and who is willing to listen. I live at the Jersey Shore but will travel if you have a good recommendation. Thanks for your help

Well I am 17 and have posted questions concerning the Lap Band before my mom has given me consent to do this and I am reallyyyy looking forward to this but there is a problem. My mother called my doctor and the doctor told her she needs to find someone that will do this surgery on an underage person. I live in New Hampshire and would like to know if anyone knows a doctor willing to do this on me being 17. It makes me sad that even with mine and my mothers consent that some wont i know its a surgery but I really want this more than anyone could ever understand.
