Reviews and experiences with weight loss surgeons and hospitals. Surgery costs, hospital stays, and what to expect.

  1. I was wondering if anyone who went through Dr. Kirshenbaum can tell me who they got financed through and how much their monthly payments were. I want figure out what I need to do to be able to make the monthly payments before I apply with a financial company. I'm not sure what the best route to go is!

If anyone is in the NW or Atlanta area, you should give great consideration to Dr. Ryland Scott at the Harbin Bariatric Clinic in Rome, GA. He is an amazing surgeon and the insurance approval process was very minimal. No pre-op dieting and has a fantastic bed-side manner...not to mention HE'S GORGEOUS! Check it out: Harbin Clinic Bariatric Center

I have been battling with my weight throughout my entire life. I lost 94# following Health Management Resources (HMR) but have slowly gained back 50#. After finally deciding that WLS was for me, I feel lucky to find the info on vertical sleeve gastrectomy. I am scheduled to have surgery hopefully July 20 or 22. I am scheduled to have it done at Doctors Hospital in Michigan by Dr. Pleatman. If anyone has any info on Dr. Pleatman, I would love to hear from you.

:glare:Hey Guys! I am living in New Zealand believe it or not and I am looking at ALL options for weightloss surgery. It is very expensive here around about $20,000NZD (Which maybe in american isnt all that much but here it is!) and so I am just seeing if there are other options and have stumbled across this site and found you all talking about Dr Aceves. So my question is: WHAT IS THE FINAL PRICE??!!:lol0:(for gastric sleeve) You say its alot cheaper than u.s prices etc etc and it even includes a 3 day resort stay etc etc I am very interested to know what this exact price is. If anyone can let me know what they paid all inclusive of everything, I would be very appr…

I was banded by Dr. Hagood on July 1st, and I've been very happy with him. He always takes the time to answer all my questions, as ridiculous as they may be, and I feel totally comfortable with him. He also did my gallbladder, and I was very impressed with how small my incisions were once the "crazy glue" came off. Totally recommend him.

  12. Started by Lap-bandit,

I am new to the forum and I am trying to research as much as I can about the Lap-band procedure. Unfortunately, I am not covered by insurance so this will be self-pay for me. I have been looking at having the procedure done at the Detriot Medical Center. Has anybody had theirs done there and what has their experience been? I also have a BMI of 34 which is low by weight loss surgery standards and it is hard to find doctors that will do it. DMC will do it as long as your BMI is 30 and that is why I have been seriously considering it.

Maybe we should just get this started by some basic introductions. So, if Dr. Timothy Eldridge was your surgeon, please take a moment to introduce yourself. Let me get the ball rolling. Hi. My name is Paula. I had my surgery on June 18, 2008. I am very happy with the progress of my weight loss. Dr. Eldridge and his staff were great. The surgery center he uses was wonderful. I would recommend him to anyone considering this surgery.

  14. So far I am not impressed with Oregon Weight Loss Surgery, LLC and Legacy Good Samaritan Obesity Institute of Portland, Oregon (Drs Jay Jan and Emma Patterson). Long story short... I went to their information seminar today and was treated horribly. The worst was when they refused to give me a packet because I have Health Net insurance. I had to argue with the lady that I plan to get new insurance or self pay, just to get a packet and attend the seminar! If I hadn't been hanging out here reading posts I probably would have given up and left like she wanted. These are supposed to be great surgeons in their field but from what I've read and experienced they have crummy "…

  18. My surgeon was Dr. Laura Machado who has an office off of Greenback Lane in Rancho Cordova...She is wonderful and I have had a great experience so far with her. Her office staff is friendly and helpful whenever you call. She has a great bedside manner, is very easy to talk with and makes you feel like you are the only patient she has. She is always happy to answer any questions and has made the whole process of being banded so much easier than I ever expected. I would highly recommend her to anyone considering this surgery.

I am signed up for a lap band seminar in 2 weeks where I live. The procedure is new to where I live and I haven't been able to find much info on the surgeons. I will have to pay out of pocket and it costs $20,300 here!!!! Plus over $500 for fills. They said if I pay up front, I will get a 25% discount, but that's still over $15,000. By looking at this site, I see Dr. Kirshenbaum is considerably less and I have read really good things about him. Denver is about 4.5-5 hours away from me. I'm just curious what others would do? Pay more for the convenience of being local, or drive for less money and a more reputable surgeon? I will still go to the seminar here n…

Dr. Krause was my surgeon, I had a very smooth surgery with no problems post-op. He's a highly skilled surgeon and just the nicest doctor, he always takes time for your questions even when he gets busy. Very polite and professional. The office staff is excellent and friendly. Beaumont Hospital is one of the best hospitals in the nation (and it is a Bariatric Center of Excellence), the staff treated me so nice I felt like a VIP. Beaumont also has a Weight Loss Center with doctors, dietitians and other staff that will help you to succeed - I don't think I would have been this successful without them. I have never had a problem getting through to their office. The entire staff at the Center for Weight control is great.

He is an amazing doctor, he tells you like it is and doesn't beat around the bush. Nor does he try to answer questions he doesn't know the answer to, he'll reply to everything as honestly as he can. I am paying out of pocket and had the chance to have it go through my insurance but my insurance wouldn't cover me going to Dr. McKeen. My surgeon is DR. Scott Steinberg who is located in Decatur, GA. He is an excellent surgeon/physician and I would recommend him to any one. He is young(in his early thirties), but don't let his age fool you! He is very experienced and knowledgeable. He is also really good with the followup procedure, as well. I have been banded about 71/2 months and have had 4 fills already. He is not conservative with the fills or the fill amounts. The only thing he cares about is my overall health and getting me to my goal weight. If you are looking for a great surgeon in the Atlanta area, I recommend giving his office a call at (404) 501-7081, his assistant is named Cheryl. …

  45. Why am I leaving the US for Surgery? Here are my reasons: 1. My United Health Care insurance refuses to pay for ANY type of WLS surgery - they won't even pay for a doctor supervised weight loss program, period. Ridiculous. 2. I live in "medicine city" - Durham, NC. We have Duke Medical Center, not to mention huge amounts of other hospitals, specialists, pharmaceutical companies, labs, etc. Even so, I found two surgeons that were even slightly experienced in VSG - I was going to get RNY (because to me, a tool is a tool, except I didn't want a lapband, for all the reasons cited on this board), because insurance would never cover VSG - not this insurance in this st…

I have never had surgery or anything. I was more nervous about the surgery part than having it done. He is very good. I also started the process in Ft. Bliss, Tx. that doctor was okay, but he wanted me to lose 50 lbs first. If I could lose that much on my own I probably would not need the surgery. Dr. Reyes is my angel, that is helping me start my new life. I had my surgery on June 16th. I feel great and am glad I made the decision. Thank you for letting me share. Mia:thumbup:
