Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals

Reviews and experiences with weight loss surgeons and hospitals. Surgery costs, hospital stays, and what to expect.

  1. Hi all. I am still researching doctors, self pay, wanting to have this done just before Thanksgiving weekend. I heard on the news about Dr. Daniel Scott, who is now doing single incision lap bands (rather than the five with traditional laparoscopy). So far his office seems wonderful on the phone. Has anyone had experience with him or with the single incision technique? Supposedly there is less pain, faster recovery, less scarring. They don't have a single price for self pay...its all broken down by doc, anesthesiologist, hospital. Trying to compare it to all the doctors who offer a flat fee for everything is getting complicated. Anyone else steer these waters? So far h…

Hi all - I'm about to have my first appointment with Dr. Boone and was wondering if anyone would share their experience with either Dr. Boone or Dr. Higa from Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery Associates in Fresno, Ca. I'd love to hear the good and bad regarding the doctors, services, and center. Thanks! Rae

Dr. Hsu assisted with my lapband surgery in May of 09. He has since took over the practice of Dr. Hahn in Groves Texas. He is doing my lapband fills. He has a very good reputation as a general surgeon. He also has experience with the other wt loss surgeries. I would use him for any surgery. He is a very caring surgeon. I do plan to use him for a tummy tuck when I have lost enough weight. I would reccomend him to others. He has a office in Orange Texas, but does the wt loss surgery and management out of a office in Groves Texas.

  5. Hello. About 3 months ago I had my lapband put in by a Dr. in Michigan and he did one fill. Recently I've moved to south Florida and I'm in desperate need to find a fill doctor in Florida. I didn't think it would be hard but all of the FL doctors that I found thru realizeband.com did not take any followup patients. DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A DOCTOR IN FLORIDA THAT COULD HELP ME?? I'm willing travel a few hours if needed. Let me know. thanks for your help.

I had my Labpand surgery done in Mexico. I am a cash pay customer and just could not afford the price of the surgery in the US. I do my aftercare with a Doctor from San Antonio, Dr. Steggeman. According to Dr. Steggeman, at the beginning of next year (January 2010), he and 8 other surgeons from Texas will be offering to do surgeries in Mexico. So that cash pay customers can have the cheaper cost associated with surgery in Mexico, but still use a US doctor. These 8 doctors will be doing a rotation in Cancun, Mexico. Lapband patients will stay three days, and Bipass patients will stay five days. They will be using a hospital that has the same standards as a US hos…

  10. I met Dr. Moeinolmolki In June, when a friend of mine invited me to go to a seminar with her at GBMC in Maryland. Dr. Mo banded me on 12/11/2009 and did a wonderful job. I have minimal scars. Very pleased.

  11. I need a good surgeon for continuing care/fills in either San Diego or Phoenix. I had my surgery on 11-1-07 and I am moving from Tampa to Yuma, AZ in a few weeks. I'm almost at goal but I may need one more fill and I prefer not to do Fill Centers. I'll still need follow-up care during the next few years while I'm in Yuma to make sure everything's okay with my band as well. Anyone have any recommendations?

I am considering between Dr. Aceves and Dr. Zapata. The only reason I am not all out for Dr. Aceves is that it is much further of a journey for me. I can be in Monterrey within a few hours and get a friend to take me. But if I go with Dr. Aceves I have to drive myself to San Antonio catch a flight then ride 2 hours to the hospital and then do the same backwards to get home. I will also have to pay for my friend's flight there and back and I am already paying for his passport. My friend lives in San Antonio so it is complicated to have him drive here to pick me up to drive me back to San Antonio to catch a flight. I am not sure if I should be driving myself 2 hours to get …

Hi everyone! If you had surgery in MX, did you have to get international calling on your cell? Also, did the hospital have wifi or could you use your laptop's wireless card?? Geez, I could never live in the mountains lol. No internet/cell access to me is frightening:) Thanks for the info!!

Hello, I am new to all this but i was wondering if anyone had any feed back about his office. (dr. Haag and Fiallo). So far I am not too impressed with the girls who work there, i understand they are busy but.......5 months ! i was there to see the doc in Nov. and nothing yet, not even precertified. Is this the usual for them? I get so annoyed when I see their commercial and think they can't handle what they have now and are trying to get more people. GGGRRRRRR !!!!!!! :faint:

So I'm looking for a Dr. in the Silverdale area, understand I may have to travel to Seattle / Tacoma. Thanks

  26. Dr. Yarbrough was superb at doing my fills. I am very sad to see him leaving the bariatric center though. I do not know if he will be doing the same line of work in Corvallis or if he is moving onto to another one of his specialties he will be missed. He is the only doc that I was able to get to fill my band all the way, have me stand up, take a drink, then he slowly released it till the Water trickled down. That was the last fill I have ever had and that was in October of 2008... 7 months ago almost 8. Absolutely awesome. If he is practicing in Corvallis I will be sure to drive up there.

I'm covering my bases, here. In the event Tricare won't start covering VSG come January, I'm trying to work a backup plan. I called Tricare and asked about potential coverage but nobody could help me. Bummer! I'll have to keep waiting until the New Year and call again later. Also, I'm discouraged by the long waits here...I'm in Germany and the clinic near us is limited so we drive to another one that takes patients from three areas. My doctor gave me a list of four requirements to meet before she'll even refer me to the nurse practioner that does the referrals for surgery. Unfortunately, I'm not getting in for some of those appointments until May, meaning I could wait u…

They NEVER return my emails OR my calls and it's just getting frustrated. Also, I have been unable to find a site for Dr. Aceves that lists how many days in the hospital will be required and if you are placed in a private hotel room for some of your stay. Is hotel included in the package? I cannot seem to find any pricing information about Dr. Aceves. Thanks again for all your help. dinner. The hospital room was immaculate as Rosebud mentioned. So I must say I ahve been a patient at PAMF for almost 10 years. I have the best PCP and Surgeon anyone could ask for, not to mention all support staff from the admin to assistants and RNs. Dr. Amwar must be the most patient man in the universe he is just so mellow. I swear my bp must drop 10pts just when he walks in the room, immediately he puts me at ease. Feel free to pass along any questions you may have.

My surgeon was Dr. Steven Patching who has an office off of Howe Avenue. He is wonderful and I have had a great experience so far with him. His office staff is friendly and helpful whenever you call. He has a great bedside manner, is very easy to talk with and makes you feel like you are the only patient he has. He is always happy to answer any questions and has made the whole process of being banded so much easier than I ever expected. He is a great motivator. He has always been available to me when I have needed him. It is people before the surgery or anything. He is on your side! I would highly recommend him to anyone considering this surgery.

Hello Everyone! I am looking for some guidance on some trouble I am experiencing with my lapband. I was banded in October 2007. Everything went fine. Then a few months later I started having trouble keeping anything down. This past year and a half has been miserable. I can hardly keep anything down. I can't pinpoint which food work and dont work for me. I have had fills and unfills. Everytime I go in I am told it is my fault. Even with throwing up all the time, I have only lost around 25lbs. I cant believe that is all with the little I eat. I really think something is wrong inside, but cant seem to get any help. I am going to my doctor this week for one last …

Incredible doctor, incredible practice and staff. I simply recommend that you attend one of his introductory seminars, posted on the swedish weight loss services site. If you're doc shopping, this should put and end to that process. It's simply a higher level of experience, care, support and overall professionalism. And if you are self-paying, the pricing is wholly competative for a service package that puts the cosmetic practitioners to shame.

  44. Which would you do after surgery? I live in Nebraska, so I can fly to Denver from Omaha for about 1 1/2 hours, or I can drive for about 8. My surgery is scheduled for March 11th, so I might have weather to consider, too. I've had some people tell me to drive, because then I can stop and such whenever I want. I've had others tell me to fly, because a bumpy 8 hour ride would be miserable. What should I do?
