Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories

Weight loss surgery success stories. Share your milestones, before and after photos, and non-scale victories.

  1. Started by Butterflyjdjl,

I'm a month post op as of yesterday. I have lost 19 lbs since the day of surgery and 39 lbs total since starting this journey in November. I am adapting well and enjoying the results but eating has become such a chore. It's often painful to swallow even soft foods and I can feel every morsel going into my pouch. Will it always be like this or will this feeling fade over time?

I'm new to this board and have read many of your success stories. I am post op 7 days and cannot believe the severity of gas pains in my chest. I'm thinking they're gas pains, but I have no idea. Maybe heartburn, but I've never had heartburn to know. I'm having no problem getting my 64 oz. of liquids in. Not having any problem walking, everything seems fine other than this constant pain in my chest. Does anyone have any remedies? Is it normal to feel this 7 days after surgery? Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you for reading.

Started my journey November 2011 at 235 I'm now at 133 trying to hit 125. I'm still in my green zone and seeing my surgeon every month. I doubted myself on the beginning and even had regrets along the way. But I think that's normal for most of us. Eating is like a bad habit now. I eat very small and my band helps me get Thru it. Thank u 1-800-GET -THIN and Dr Lee Au for giving me another chance at life. U save lives. I will post pix the day I hit goal. Stay tuned

  5. I just wanted to say that I am 4 months out today and just so excited. My body is changing and sometimes it makes me laugh to know that I am supposed to feel the bones in my body lol. When I lay down or when I shower I am like " oh wow I have a collar bone, wow this is a hip bone.. oh wait this is an elbow and knee bones really?! haha you all know what I am talking about. I have never regreted the surgery although in the begining it was a bit tough but now its not bad at all. Eating and drinking feel like a chore (never thought I would say that) but I am doing great. I am learning my body and how to work along with my sleeve. The only thing I have left to do is join a g…

So after hovering between 201 and 204 for about 5 weeks I have FINALLY reached the day where my scale reads 199. I can not express the amount of joy iny my heart right now. I really think it was 6th grade or so, the last time the first digit of my weight was a 1. It's just surreal! I'm so excited and motivated to keep going. I'm SO CLOSE to my goal weight I can taste it! HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My surgery was Monday and I'm still waiting for the bells and whistles of the paradigm shift that is to be my new life. The reason I am posting is I've read previous posts and some people make light of the surgery itself and how they bounced right back. I'm glad I didn't pay too much attention to what seems like wishful thinking. THIS WAS MAJOR SURGERY AND IT HURT! i woke up an hour or so after surgery in my hospital bed with the requisite IVs, monitors and catheter. Never had a catheter (never had surgery before this!) and it was not painful or even uncomfortable. I was very fortunate that there were no sharp pains but I definitely felt like I went three rounds w…

I'm so excited, I just need to share with someone other than my poor husband that has to hear it all the time. Today I am 5 weeks and 1 day post op and when I got on the scale today it showed that I am down 41 pounds! My clothes are starting to get really baggy, but I am not ready to go clothes shopping yet. I feel energized by seeing that scale move down, it is showing that my hard work and dedication are paying off. I still have a long way to go, but I am on my way! Thanks for listening to me gloat!

Okay, so the last one makes me nervous, I don't want to loose my ring, but, HELLO!!!! I am so excited with these new Non Scale Victories! I am really looking forward to this summer when we can go as a family to an amusement park and I can FIT on the rides! I haven't ridden any rides for almost 20 years because I couldn't fit. I have been doing really well but it amazes me ever time I figure out something better for my body. Check out nuts.com. I just received my first order. I always have problems finishing breakfast and not getting all my nutrition in. Now I have Greek yogurt with a healthy granola which helps satisfy me and at night instead of eating my cool whip lite with cocoa I have about 1.5 ounces of a healthy trail mix with raw nuts, dried fruits and seeds. I feel like I answered some important question. I now have healthier days. Protein with meats, fish or beans, dairy, veggies, fruits and nuts. Really cutting out the liittle bit of crap I ate.I would have never made such good choic…

I finally got to go get my "200 lb down" present to myself, my sister tattoo! I still have a hard time believing how much I have actually lost and how different I am. So, I'm going to make sure I reward each of my milestones! Here's my first one, a tattoo shared with my sister. A big part of dealing with my weight loss was dealing with our relationship so I could mend the issues we had between us. I am so thankful for the gained relationship with her, and losing the pounds and resentment. Now I'm looking forward to the last 100 lbs to be gone, I'm well on my way! Missy constantly gave her best friend Janet a hard time about her vertical sleeve operation. Although Janet was losing weight and feeling good, Missy relished pointing out that Janet took the "easy way out' and should have had enough will power to lose weight "the normal way". Janet loved her life-long friend Missy but was thinking about dumping her as a friend because of the abuse. A strange light awoke Missy one night and a feeling of travelling very fast came over her. It only lasted about 10 seconds. Missy shrugged it off and went back to sleep. When she went to her refrigerator the next morning it was nearly empty. When she walked outside she found an odd futuris…

I am happy to report that we had an amazing time on our cruise during Valentine's week. I am even more happy to report that for the most part I made good food choices ( I did not count calories though) and did exercise while on the cruise, in addition to some huge amounts of walking while in port. Even with all of that, I did gain 3 lbs. Statistics show that the average "cruiser" gains 1.5 lbs PER DAY! With that being said, I think I did pretty good. We returned from our cruise on 2/17 and I have lost the 3 lbs + 1 lb for a total of 4 lbs. Yahoo! Got right back on that horse and even found that I kind of missed my rountine. Who would have thunk it???? Thanks for letting…

Also I am so hungry all the time!!! What gives?? I also push my limits with what I try to eat too. Like no no things. I know this is bad but I guess old habits die hard. I am 30years old, have my masters and am a successful professional and my mother won't talk to me. She cursed me out, cried and said very mean things because of this tattoo (which can be covered by my sleeve). My dad was not happy about the tattoo but said he will love me no matter what. I explained to my dad that I have never liked my body enough to show it off and I finally feel confident to display art that I want. I waited until I was ready. My dad understands. I am pretty upset about the place where I had my lap band surgery (which will remain anonymous). I got my lap band in 2010, paid out of pocket and was very happy with the doctor and the facility. I selected this place based on the reputation of the doctor and particularly the post support they provided. All was good until last fall when the day before I was to go in for a fill I received a call saying they were no longer doing fills. They said that the nurse who did them had left the facility and that they were refering people to another physician who I would have to pay cash for. I was very upset about this. The doctor they were sending me to did not specialize in bariat…

Then yesterday, we were shopping, I had my back to her and when I looked up to find her she had a scared look on her face. She said, "oh mom, you're getting so skinny I didnt recognize you"! I think she was looking for me for a few seconds and didn't know it was me right beside her. Poor girl. I scared her. Makes me feel good though! This Friday will make 7 weeks post-surgery, and this morning I finally entered Onederland! 199.3, to be exact. (Hence, the "just barely" in the title). I'm down 34 pounds; almost halfway to my goal weight. Still having a bit of trouble with the Protein (I either hate the taste, or can't get it down), but I'm not giving up. i ate about 5 bites of steak the other night, and it stayed down just fine, but I was so FULL!! A few papaya enzyme chewable tablets helped it go down a lot easier. Despite the eating difficulties... BEST DECISION I'VE EVER MADE!!

  42. It's been 3 weeks tomorrow and I have gone from 204 lbs to 191. Most if which I lost in the first week. Everyone keeps telling me they can see me losing weight but I don't see it. Why don't I see it? I have been really trying to do everything right. I was put in the hospital this past week for pancreatitis that they still don't know where that came from. I came home from that two days ago and had somehow gained 4 lbs! Which is ridiculous because I wasn't even allowed to eat or drink the whole time I was there. Back down to 191 now but I swear I have been stuck at this weight for what seems like 2 weeks. Frustrated.

I fought my weight all through my adult life finally ending up at 324 in my early 40's. Finally joining WW and getting back down into the 280's in the late 90's. In 2005 I had knee surgery and was back up to the wrong side of 300, so I went back to WW and after 8 months of hard work I got down to 250 where I stalled. I finally got down to 249.8 and then started putting weight back on. That number 249.8 has always been a magical number to me since then, but I have never been able to come cl…
