I just would love to hear from others on their experience....good or bad. Everyday, many times a day I think about my weight and health and how I would love to feel good about myself again. Would love to get rid of 80 to 90 lbs. Have first appointment set up for July.

Hello I am 34 years old and been overweight for about 14 years. My surgery is scheduled for Wed 6/13. I am very excited to open a new chapter in my life as a smaller person than I am now. I do have a family member that had this surgery 2 years ago so I do have my own support group at family get-togethers. Plus when I was a teen, my Mom had weight loss surgery. Now it is my turn. I am not a big internet person so I won't be on often to view messages, but I will certainly turn to this family when I need help and to share progress reports. Thank you for having this forum for talking. Sue-Z-Q

Hi everyone I've just found this forum and I'm really pleased because I've not told anyone about my surgery except my husband! I had my band fitted in January 2006 when I weighed 14 stones. I was getting married in September and managed to lose 2 stones for that date which was great, but I haven't really lost anything much since then and am now hovering just above 12 stones. I'd like to get to 10 (but would be thrilled with 11). My husband is great most of the time but keeps buying me chocolate for a 'treat' because he sees that I struggle with a lot of other food. Although I'm not losing weight at least I'm not putting any on either, although I do tend to eat small port…

Hello, I am Terry. My surgery is scheduled for June 12. One of the rules that my doctor has is that I attend at least one support group meeting before surgery. I have no problem with this, but there are no support group meeting that I can attend before June 12. If I can find a online chat group or live online meeting group hopefully that will meet the requirement. I would greatly appreciate if any of you could give me some suggestions.

A am so depressed I could just scream. I am scheduled to be banded on June 27th. Happes to be by 29 year old sons birthday. Boy is he laying on the guilt trip! my daughter in law "don't even want to discuss it". I think the main problem is I am doing something for ME for a change instead of everyone else! How dare I??? I think because I have cancer and it is not curable they think why bother. And I am self pay to make it even worse, so you know they are really upset over me borrowing the money:eek: I take 12 pills a day and 2 shots a day for diabeties, blood pressure etc. I want this for me. I want to get off some of these meds and be able to fight when the bone marrow tr…

I have 5 days before I am banded. I have read so many positive posts here and I really do need banding as my weight has been up and down for years and I need banding to help me control my weight not have it control me any longer. BUT I'm starting to panic. I am concerned about all the excess skin? My doctor tells me some people are left with flabby skin and some are not. Great help he was as I will not know which group I fall intountil afterb the weight loss. I dont want toend up with skin that looks like melting wax?

My surgery was yesterday, and so far so good!! I feel fine, just a little sore. The dr. gave me codein for pain. I took it last night (every 4 hours), but when I got up this morning, I just took liquid tylenol, and it's worked great. I have to laugh at my stomach though because it is making some VERY interesting noises! I now have a talking stomach! I decided to name it Elliot; affectionately named after that Pasamaquady resident and best friend to Pete (from "Pete's Dragon" for those of you that don't know the movie)!! Also. . I'd like to give a shout out to the makers of GAS-X! Thanks for making the dissovable tongue strips!! They don't taste bad (unlike …

:clap2: Things are moving so quickly, I can hardly believe it! :clap2: I attended a seminar on 5/21/07. I had my 1st appointment with my surgeon 5/31/07. My nutritionist appoinment is 6/4/07. My mental health counselor appointment is also 6/4/07. My sleep study :notagree is 6/13/07. My ultrasound of my abdomen to rule out Galbladder problems/infection; and an ECO is 6/25/07. And my physical and EKG with my regular doctor is also 6/25/07. The only thing left after that will be my bloodwork. I looked into this a couple years ago, but chickened-out. Everything seems like it is just falling into place. I just know it's the right thing and the right time now.

My husband and I went to the 1st of many doctors appts. today for the insurance approval. Our doctor said since we've tried almost everything, there was really nothing else for her to suggest is the hospital multidisicplinary program. So, she reffered us to one. I called today to get information and found out that it will cost over $3000 a piece for my husband and I to do this 20 week program. I called the doctor back and she said she will put us in touch with a nutrionist and we can make an appt. to come see her for weight updates every month for the next six months. Has anyone else experienced this when trying to get what the insurance company wanted? Any suggestion…

Hi All, I have been to my seminar, done the dietician, and visited the shrink, now I await my visit to the surgeon on June 22nd. Shrink says I'm a go, but need to work on my BINGE eating with him for a couple visits, which is o.k. as I am doing the 6 months supervised weight loss with my M/D as per the ins. co. I try not to get too antsy about it.........but I am so excited at the prospect of being banded and starting a new way of life. Connie

Greetings, I am new to the forum; but, my wife had her band placed in Feb of '06. My date is set for June 22nd. I am a little apprehensive after watching all my wife's ups and downs with the band; but, she's still moving towards her goal and swears she's still glad she did it. Besides that, I am really proud of her. Dr. here in Tucson is Monte Schwartz. Now all I have to do is try to avoid three weeks worth of "Last Meal Syndrome!" Wish me luck!

I have my second pre-op appointment next week, and will be having surgery on the 22 of June. I guess I should confess my history with being overweight. I tried weight watchers for the first time when I was eight years old, and have been trying every diet known to man since. My mother has gastric bypass a few years ago and is now thin for the first time in her life. My mother and I decide, after a 30 pound weight gain after my first year at college, that I should go ahead and do something that we know works. I am so excited about lap-band, because I am so young (only 19) I was concerned about the side effects of gastric, but this seems like a much better alternative. M…

Hi guys just wanted to say i finished the class that tells you everything you need, to what you will drink, how much etc. It was very informative. I am not really at peace now because the surgeon, staff are very caring and understanding. The woman who gave the seminar had gastric 7 years ago. I was tooo shocked :paranoid she really looked good and she was saying how she is a fanatic when it comes to working out. she works out all of the 7 days :clap2:. i just wanted to share that because before i know it, it will be next friday. i have soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much to do.

:help: anyone who can tell me about having a port in a bikini area. I've had mine on my strernum for3 years now and it has been bodering me ever since. I am thinking of having it relocated to the bikini area. Does anyone have it there, please write about your exoerience. Even though I lost 100 lbs (in 2 years) I still wear "D" underwire bra and it goes right into my port. It is unconfortable and sometimes painful. Is it the same way if it's down there, and what do they attach it to? Eileen

:help: Im a newbie here...Had the band on 5-25,after being released, i started having abdominal pain and vomiting. Went in for an upper GI and found that swelling had closed the band completely. Nothing was getting through, even after taking out the initial 2cc's of Fluid. Now in the hospital for 48 hours of rehydration and hoping the swelling goes down. If it doesn't my surgeon says using a bigger band. Surgery wasn't too bad, but I sure don't relish doing it a second time. Anyone have similar experience out there? Looking forward to feeling human again.

I am thinking about Lap Band surgery. One day I know it is right for me and the next day I wonder if I can do it. A liquid diet for 2 weeks! I'm not a planner and planning meals ahead of time is a little strange for me. I am 100 lbs overweight and know I need to lose but this is pretty drastic. I did try one of the unjury protein shakes. Their pretty good. Any advise?

I'm new here. I posted two or three times and thought i would say hi. I'm in the process of getting a lapband. I'm going with NYU here in NY. I went to the info meeting and have been cleared by Psyc. I have also went for a stress test and my doctor has given me records for the last 5 years that he has been working with me. So i think i have the ball rolling. I have a BMI of about 54 and I have 3 slipped disk in the neck. I had my ACL replaced a few years back and would like nothing more then to play 18 holes of golf.. Just wanted to say hi and seeing all the people here i'm sure will help me leading up to and after i get the band.

hi, my name is Dana. Back in 2000, I had a gastric bypass that didn't take. Went back to see the doctor who performed the operation and he said all they could really do for me was a lap band. I had gained weight after the initial weight loss and I am finding that i can eat large amounts of food. I'm hovering in the 280's and 290's no matter what i do. Diet and exercise, it doesn't matter. The numbers go down and then go right back up. I've tried everything. The reason i didn't want a lap band was the outside hook up. But now, I'm feeling kinda desperate. Something has to give and I've had enough. Is there anyone here who's been in a similar boat?:faint:

I am finally getting banded on June 6....Yah! My doctor has me on a protien diet 2 weeks before my band date. I am told this is because it will decrease the size of my liver. I am also guessing it will help me to loose a little too. But here is the question: How is this protien diet going to decrease the size of my liver? :noidea:

My name is Brenda and I am currently in the process of getting the lapband surgery. I live in Ohio and my surgeon is Dr. Trace Curry. I have not had the surgery as of yet, although I am going through all of the pre-surgery stuff right now. I have to have an Endiscope done of my stomach on the 7th of June and then I have to undergo a psch evaluation (most insurance companies require this). Once that is done, they can submit everything to my insurance company. Once approved, and I pray I will get approved, they can then set me up for the surgery. I have been researching the lapband for quite some time and so far, it is the only FDA approved weight-loss surgery in th…

:nervous Good Morning! This is my first post. I went to my first appt at the Norton Bariatric Center this past Thursday. I watched a video, had my vital stats and weight checked, saw the nutritionist, and saw psychologist. I guess I passed that one (whew! )because now I am waiting to be scheduled to meet with the surgeon. He then will dictate a letter to my insurance company (UHC)and I'll wait to see if I'm approved for the surgery. I'm not anticipating that they will turn me down, but I know that they can hold it for 30 days before giving a decision. It has been such a slow process, and I'm ready NOW!! I guess I had better learn to be patient. I'm almost 43 years o…

Hi , Tommorow is My day for surgery, I'm quite nervous but also looking forward to it. Not quite sure what to expect as I know everyone reacts differently. I came accross this board looking for some support looks like you are a friendly bunch. This procedure is only available since May in Ireland so not a lot out there at the moment for support. But the surgeon is from France and is very experienced so that at least is good news . Looking forward to getting to know you all as I start my journey.:rolleyes
