Post Op Swelling - Band is shut

:help:

Im a newbie here...Had the band on 5-25,after being released, i started having abdominal pain and vomiting. Went in for an upper GI and found that swelling had closed the band completely. Nothing was getting through, even after taking out the initial 2cc's of Fluid. Now in the hospital for 48 hours of rehydration and hoping the swelling goes down. If it doesn't my surgeon says using a bigger band. Surgery wasn't too bad, but I sure don't relish doing it a second time.

Anyone have similar experience out there? Looking forward to feeling human again.

Wow, Ernie, I have never heard of that before! I am so sorry you are having problems and I hope everything gets taken care of quickly. Please keep us posted on how you are doing.

You might want to ask your Dr. why he put Fluid in the band to start with. I'm sure there's a good reason. I think it's more common to put no fluid in until after healing for about 3 weeks.

If you find that you CAN drink, you might try hot liquids...For me, they open the band a bit more so I'm not as restricted for a meal.....
