I can see mine sticking out some. I had my surgery on 10/5. I am just wondering if I need to lose more weight before it is hidden, or if it will always be sticking out. It is flat but you can see the raised section under my skin where it is. Just curious.

Hi all! I just signed up for this website and am having my surgery on November 14th. I'm a little nervous, but mostly excited. I have a ton of questions- but of course I can't think of them all right now. How long did most of you do the pre-op liquid diet and what exactly did you all eat? I was told by my doctor to do the diet for three days, but I will do it for longer if it will help make the surgery easier or less painful afterwards. Please give me your advice- anything will help. Thanks! Jen

I am starting to get hungry now. It is also tough because I have a husband that can eat anything & a daughter that takes after him. They are eating pizza etc. I know it is probably mental but WOW I smell it & go crazy. I am eating scrambled eggs while they induldge on all of the junk that got me where I "was". I had lost 12 pounds on my 2 week visit. I go back on 11/5 for a fill & maybe 1 more before thanksgiving depending on how I am feeling. If I am feeling ok then I get one before the holidays. I feel like I am not loosing anymore & I am afraid to eat. I have only eaten 2 meals the last few days because I do not want to gain. I am hungry but afraid to g…

Hi Everyone I am knew to this site. I will be having lapband done October 25/07. Has anyone here had theirs done by Dr Yau at the Prince Arthur Medical Centre in Toronto? I am very excited to have this done. I am wanting to lose 84 lbs. How soon after surgery did you notice the wait coming off ? How much did you lose in the first couple of months? I have heard the heavier you are the more you lose. Is there anyone who wants to lose the same as me? My BMI is 33. I have found this site to be very very helpful. Thank-you everyone for posting your before and after emotional and physical feelings. I am a pretty good healer and really want to get this weight off that I hav…

Hi everyone. I had my surgery on 10/22/07. I've had some ups and downs this week with blood sugar problems, but overall feel I'm doing well and am planning to go back to work tomorrow. My dietician recommended the Syntrax Nectar protein powder, which I'm using. While the taste isn't too bad, the smell of it is awful (at least to me). Anyone have suggestions for another brand to try?

I am new here and will be getting my lapband on November 15, 2007. I am overly happy about getting a new lease on life. I have struggled with my weight all of my life and I feel as though my weight has made me put my life on hold. I have tried so many diets only to fail. My biggest reason for losing the weight is to be healthy and to get pregnant. I have struggled with infertility for the past 9 years and I feel like I am losing time. My doctor says that my weight is the biggest problem for my infertility. I am looking forward to a brand new start on life. Sunshiny

Hi everyone, I am not a bandster, and will not be receiving a band. I used to be 300 pounds, and am now 175. I am a male, 5'10". I have always had a passion for obesity and bariatrics research, and my current focus has been on LAGB. From my research, I am wondering why people seem to prefer the LapBand and Midband to The swedish band. I have noticed that the swedish band is now approved in the USA..are people excited for this? From a surgeon's perspective, why do they seem to prefer the Lapband over the Swedish.... I look forward to learning more and meeting you all. Danny

I am just getting started on investigating the lap band and have a couple of questions. 1. How does one go about choosing the right doctor. I have been on the website and seen which doctors in the area have been certified. Does anyone know where do you go to see their success rates and if they have any compliants, etc. 2. Would you all suggest going to a seminar or just straight to the Doctor? Thanks. allic:help:

My main concern now is that I have to be on a liquid diet 10 days before my surgery. I need help on what I will be able to eat. I do not like yogurt or cottage cheese. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi! I've been on this site for quite awhile but never really introduced myself. I'm just a few weeks from getting a lapband in Topeka, Ks. My doctor is Dr. Hamilton and I will be at St. Frances Hospital. He lets his patients go home the same day. I'm scared and excited at the same time. I am sixty years old and diabetic. I am short and weigh 214. I want to get to 140. Could someone tell me if there is a web with people my age.? I would like to talk with them since I am older than all of you. You have been a GREAT help for me......Thanks.....LBelle:)

I am a self pay "potential" client, because our employer has excluded the surgery from coverage, thus I am researching my lap-band options. I have talked to several agencies in Mexico, as I live in Texas, I am leaning toward Dr. Rodriguez in Juarez. My questions are, 1)What are the differences between the surgery in the US & the surgery in Mexico? 2)The first thing I have noticed is in Mexico you stay in the hospital for days, here in the US I am home by evening. Is that because the procedure in Mexico is different, perhaps more invasive, and my body needs the hospital stay to heal? I've heard the company line but would like the real experience. 3) In Mexico…

First I want to say I think this forum is absolutely awesome. I had no idea there were so many people out there who have been banded. I just had my first child Matthew 3 months ago. I've been considering getting banded for some time but since Matt was born I've put my efforts into high gear. I've signed up to attend a seminar in my area. My problem is convincing my wife that this is a good idea. My BMI is currently 53 and I don't see many other options. Any ideas??

Hello everyone! I have Medicare which requires to jump through so many hoops before the surgery. I'm just wondering if anyone else has gone through the same thing??? Medicare requires a 3-month doctor/dietician supervised diet pre-op. I guess they want to see if I can lose weight. That really sucks. Also, I have a major amount of paperwork to get together from all of my doctors regarding my medical conditions such as high blood pressure and sleep apnea. And finally, I have to see a psychologist and be cleared for surgery. I guess I just want to know what anyone else has experienced going through Medicare. Thanks a bunch!! Oh, my doctor is Dr. Robert Davi…

Hi, my name is Gigee and I'm new to lapbandtalk.com. I'm so glad there are so many of us out there. I joined the band on September 14, 2007. Everything went extremely well. I did not have any after surgery pain. My recovery was swift (my husband and boys took great care of me). I went to work a week after the surgery. I could have gone back sooner but I was having so much fun being pampered and spoiled by my hubby and kids. My first post-op doctor visit was on 10/25. I lost a total of 17 1/2 lb. It would have taken me at least 8 weeks to lose that much weight without the band. My first fill is on Tuesday 10/30. I've declared September 14, 2007 my re-…

Hello everybody! My name is Vikki and I had my Lap Band surgery on Oct 15 at Cedars Sinai by Dr Scott Cunneen. I am happy that I did not chicken out as I was really scared in the pre-op room. My surgeon found and fixed a "large" hernia (8cm) and they discovered that I am also a diabetic. Diabetic enough to warrant an insulin shot every six hours. My recovery so far has been surprisingly easy. Must easier than I expected. I see my new AP band as a true blessing because without my surgery I would've never known about my above medical issues let alone my apnea. So happy to be here!:bounce: Vikki

HI ALL, I have decided to get banded and I'm currently doing all of the pre-work to have my insurance cover the procedure. My insurance requires 6 months of documented weight loss attempt before they'll approve you, so I've got 4 more months of documentation to go. I also have to complete a sleep study, nutrtional consult., and blood work. I've already done the psych eval. So I guess I'm starting to get really excited as I embark on this journey and would love to hear from the rest of you as to your successes and set backs. I am definitely a food addict and I'm now working with a therapist on congnitive behavior therapy to address that. I'm scared of how much I'll…

Hi all, I just registered. My surgury is scheduled for Oct. 29th, of course pending a nuclear stress test...yuk! Had one before...not fun. I have been on the "shake" diet for 1 1/2 weeks now...(yuki) lost 15 lbs and my liver should have shrunk by now! I have diabetes, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, high blood pressure all from my weight! I'm a little nervous, not so much about the surgery, but more the lifestyle change that is taking place....and I know it's for the "REST" of my life. I need to loose 140 lbs., of course less the 15 I have already lost. I have been looking into the lapband for over a year now...didn't think I would get financed, but I did, so here I go . S…

My husband and I have been married for almost seven years and have been trying to get pregnant for three. My body has not yet responded to any medications and the driver behind this is my insulin resistance. My fertility specialist has now classified me as high risk and discontinued her treatments due to my A1C levels. Without lose of weight, my condition, PCOS and Insulin Resistance will prevent me from getting pregnant. Throughout this ordeal, I have been treated by an endocrinologist to assist with weightloss, but it has been unsuccessful. I have attempted to see three different doctors in the U.S. Two offices refused to see me because my BMI is 33.4 and not 35. …

It has been an up hill battle, but most def worth it! Now I find that over the past 3 months I have lost 12lbs!!!! Sad huh....I started working out with a trainer and then I was hungry most of the time...So then I had to start eating smaller meals but more often...Not good for a single guy, thats always on the go...Meal planning has never been a strong suit of mine, but now i find myself at a lost for what works now. For starters I was wondering if anyone out there have any good tips on low cal food…

We went camping last weekend, and I had some emotions creep in that I was not expecting. It was our first camping trip since I had been banded, and it was not centered around food or snacking. I was still on liquids, so it probably was not the best timing to go camping. Anyway, it reminded me of when someone dies and you have that whole first year to go through of holidays, etc...without that person and the feelings and emotions that come up. With the holidays coming up and so many of us new at this, I am hoping some of you "old timers" will share your "first" experiences, if it created any emotions, feelings, what was different, etc..</…

Where to start?! First, I’m sooo excited that I found this awesome forum. Thanks to everyone that’s posting! I’ve been thinking about attempting to get a band for about a year now and am finally ready to officially make the plunge. What pushed me over the edge is finding out I have Type 2 Diabetes. I’ve never been in the hospital or been sick, thinking that “it won’t happen to me”. Well, it has and I’m totally scared of future complications of being unhealthy. So, now I have a huge Lap-Band fire lit under me and I’m determined to make it happen. After weeks of online research, I’ve found this website to be the best source of information. The thing that is most comfor…

Had lap-band on October 12, 2007 at Legacy Good Sam Hospital in Portland, Oregon. My Doctor is Jay Jan. Everything went fine and I am up and about. Joined the support group at the Hospital but it is so very new that there are only a few members, and no action on the net. I need to be able to talk to other people who have had the surgery and discuss what is happening to me now.
