  1. Started by AmberK,

What kind of diet did you do if you were required to do a doctor led pre-op diet before getting surgery approved? I have my initial consult with my surgeon today and will ask her but Ive been seeing my PCP since the end of November to do the 6 month pre-op diet and its not going well. I start off so well doing a WW type diet but then after a few days just fall off the wagon. Im so frustrated with myself and it makes me wonder if Im going to be able to stick to a diet once Ive been banded. Thanks for any advice!

  2. Started by Jeanirock,

I almost had lapband in June 2009. I started the pre-op diet and scheduled my surgery, but then I chickened out. Mostly because I'm afraid of having gas and vomiting for the rest of my life. Here are my questions: 1. How often does gas and vomiting occur? 2. Also, can you see the port below your skin; is it obvious? 3. How long were you out of work? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello, I am so excited to meet you as I prepare for my journey...I live in Troy Missouri (about and hour north of st louis). I just got approval from the insurance company to get banded. I have my pre-op class on Feb 3rd and then they will schedule my surgery within 30 days of that class. I am excited to get healthy. I know that it's not going to be easy, but at this point, I don't know a whole lot about the process. One thing I wonder is..can you feel the band in your stomach when you lay on your stomach? I guess I just wonder if there is a feeling that something "foreign" is in your body? Secondly, do you eat 2 oz of food per meal for the rest of your life? …

Hi I am in Middle Georgia. I was banded on Nov 13, 09 and am just now feeling my way around online for a support group. I have lost 30 pounds since pre-op to now. The past week I have been weak in controlling my eating habits. I missed the 1st fill appt on Jan 19, so I am rescheduled for Feb 2nd. Reding the threads and all the posts I can find about "fills" has eased my mind. It truly is a mental battle all the way or like I prefer to say "I need a set mind". Easier said than done since I am 58 yrs old and set in my ways. I appreciate this online support tool and want to explore more to find the right fit for me. I do not anticipate that to be very difficult. …

I have been on what I like to call the journey to the "old me" for a few months now. I'm going through the step in prepeation for the surgery, but I'm still on the fence about it. I have a good bit of weight to lose (about 150 lbs) and know that this will help me achieve my goal. My hesitation comes from what life will be like after the surgery. I've heard stories of not being able to eat certain things and not sure if I want that. Will I be able to eat a steak again? Or shrimp? Or BBQ? I know this is a life changing decision and I just want to make sure I make the right one. Thanks for listening.

My employer abruptly switched fromBlue Cross to a small "benefits administrator" in late July. I was just beginning the process for VSG at that time and I had questions regarding the bariatric surgery benefit for both HR and the new insurance so they were aware of my decision and of my appts testing ect. On Dec 18 I finished the last of my testing (EGD) and my surgeon was compiling all info for the insurance company. On Jan 11th position was "eliminated" along with my health insurance. I'm thinking it is not a coincidence. There is really nothing I can do. I am not sure if the 2 are related and if they are there is no way to prove it. So my question for all of y…

My name is Jenn and I will be Banded on March 31, 2010. I just found out this week that my insurance approved the surgery when the surgeon's office called to set the date. I'm going through a whole range of emotions, but I am certain this is the right thing for me. I'm a 34 year old, high school journalism teacher. I'm four classes away from having my master's degree in guidance counseling, and will be pursuing a job as a counselor next year. I'm single and no children, but I am the proud mama to a 3 year old Bassador (Basset Hound/Lab mix) named Earnee.

  14. So the AWESOME non sleeve related news is that I got tickets to the Oprah show with three of my other girlfriends. I AM BEYOND EXCITED! So what is the problem huh....? I have not 'outed' myself as a WLS patient to anyone except three people (who are not part of the trip). We are likely going to go to Chicago for two nights, and make it a total girl trip. My 'typical' girl trip involves hitting up a RIDIC awesome restaurant and having some INSANELY DELICIOUS food. And since I am such a foodie- the expectations would be there. Also, it will be week five for me after the op. My doctor has instructed me to have clears until todays, full liquids next two weeks and purees …

I think the WLS angels were on my side. It started with an unexpected upgrade to first class on my flight to San Antonio. Had my yummy last dinner of fajitas and then went back to the hotel for a sleepless night! The nerves did hit me at the last minute but dissipated after meeting my surgeon and his staff. (oh..... i did cry right before the anaesthesiogist because I was afraid I might not wake up) My surgery was fairly trouble free and I was up several hours later. Was certainly noy doing cart wheels in the hallway but good enough to go to the bathroom by myself. Day two and three of recovery have been comfortable. Hi, my name is Beatriz and I live in the Greater Chicago Area. Thinking about bariatric surgery and looking for info and support. I thought my latest blog post would be a good introduction: Moving to a new city meant I had to get a whole new set of doctors. I’ve been lucky enough to find good ones that (seem to) know what they are doing and with very short drives from home. My first visit with the endocrinologist was great and I’ve been taking care of myself, following (almost) all his recommendations. Next appointment was with the OB-GYN to discuss my rather frustrating femaleness and the whole trying to conceive thing; not an easy task for a person like me. I am…

Hi everybody, I'm still new I went through my initial consult appointments last week. Psychologist, PA and dietician. Everything looks good from all fronts except I do have to go for an ED (eating disorder) consult since I had one when I was younger, pre-obesity and pre-kids. I don't think it will be much of a problem since it's been a decade and a half since those days, but nevertheless, another hoop to jump through. I was kind of surprised, but no matter ... having thought about it, I do understand they need to make sure those of us with weird potentially latent triggers benefit from further attention before such a major lifestyle change involving relationships …
